Winter Construction

It was windy yesterday. Adding the wind chill factor to the Winter temperature it can't have been much fun sitting on that garage yesterday. But if you work as a builder in Sweden you can't stop just because it is Winter.

The old smithy

I just realised that I have published nearly 30 photos of the old smithy at the Nödesta farm. So I guess it's time to make a set of all those photos. I shot this latest photo a couple of days ago. The building was not just a smithy, day laborers also lived here, and there was a laundry in the basement. Today it is used as a warehouse.

That Old Tree

Another Winter walk to the old tree. The overall colors are different from my last visit/photo, but the amount of snow seems to be the same. A few degrees below zero on this my three hundred and sixty-second visit to the old tree.

The Winter Cyclist

Grace Down Under in Perth wanted me to get the bike out. Krille in Karlstad wanted me to have one week of bicycle related posts. That didn't happen as I posted a non-bicycle related photo yesterday, but you will both be happy to know that I did go for a bike ride today. It was a bit chilly, around -6C and windy, but with a blue sky. Shot this collage along the bike path/walkway at Krigslida near the commuter station.

Winter Mirror

I try to shoot a photo of this traffic mirror at the Tungelsta commuter station every season, so here is this Winter's photo. The trains always meet here. One is heading to the port city Nynäshamn and the other to Stockholm.

Toughing it out

A tough girl riding her bike despite the falling snow, tricky road conditions and the cold temperatures. Seen in Tungelsta yesterday. My bikes are parked in the cellar since about two weeks.

Minimalism in the snow

We got some more snow today. I decided to shoot only with the Tamron zoom lens during my winter promenade. The reason for that decision was that it has a lens hood. Walking past the school I noticed this minimalistic scene. A bike stand in the snow.

Autumn Vs. Winter

Walking past the little barn at the Välsta horse farm yesterday I stopped for a photo as I have done many times before. Last time I showed you a photo of it was back in October of last year. And with a bit of magic here are yesterdays photo combined with that Autumn snap. If you have a good memory you might remember that I have tried that here once before last January.

The Red Makes It

If you didnt know it before, Falu Red is a very popular color in Sweden. Not surprising perhaps that the man who lives in this Falu Red-painted house at Skogs-Ekeby in Tungelsta is a builder.

Measuring Snow

One good way of keeping track of the amount of snow we get is to measure it like this. So I really hope they don't get any mail at Hagavägen 22 in Tungelsta, at least not until Spring.

Winter Vs. Autumn

Arriving home yesterday after a chilly Winter promenade (-8C), I decided to shoot a couple of selfies on the snowy lawn where I had taken a few similar snaps back in October. This was the result.

The Blue Door

I like this little yellow house. You will find it at Kvarnvägen (Mill Road), in Tungelsta. Many years ago a priest lived here. Since then at least two dentists have done the same. When I took a photo here nine years ago the door was brown. Today it stands out a bit more with that blue color.

A Sudden Change In The Weather

Non-Electrocuted Birds

Every Thursday one of my flickr groups, Utata, asks us to go on a walk with a camera. So that's what I did yesterday. I came home with eight snaps. This was the last photo I took. Umpteen birds (give or take), sitting on an overhead power line at the Nödesta farm. Shot this with the Tamron zoom lens from far away.

Time for a semla

Back in the old days you weren't supposed to eat a semla before shrove Tuesday. I'm happy to report that those days are long gone. I bought my first semla of the year at my favorite cafe Malmens Konditori yesterday. In fact I bought two,the other one to my mother. And yes, they were tasty.

The Upper Lake

Reflection from Övre Rudasjön at the Rudan Nature Reserve. A bit different from a photo I took here last November.

Vita Huset

The white house at the Rudan Nature Reserve in Handen dates back around 300 years. For centuries there were farms here, but they are all gone. Today the buildings that are still standing are owned by the municipality and you will find the local fishing club Lilla Fiskelyckan in that old building.

Bike Shop Window

The sun was back out again today for at least a few hours, so I took advantage of that with a bike ride in the 3C weather. Heading home after a stop at the Rudan lakes I realised that I needed to pump my back tire, so I make a bit stop at the bike repair shop in Västerhaninge, and that's when I noticed their holiday display window. A pyramid made of bike tires.

Looking for a new place to live? How about an apartment at Lillgården in Tungelsta? If you want to buy an apartment here be ready to pay around 600 000 SEK for 2.5 rooms. It is apparently very charming, and close to buses, trains, nature, and the city, according to the broker.

That Old Tree

My first visit to the old tree this year. 3C, very grey sky, and a bit of mist. Horrible weather if you ask me.

New Year's Resolution?

I'm guessing that working out regularly at a gym is on many peoples New Year's Resolution list at the moment. My Tamron 70-300mm zoom lens found two of them today, in Handen at the S.A.T.S gym. Second photo is a three photo panorama.

Photo of the year

Theme Day. Photo of the year. A very easy decision. The photo of the year was of course the portrait. The tricky thing is to pick the best one. I couldn't do that so here is a collage with most of the faces you met here on the blog during 2013. You can also see them on the gadget to the right, I will leave that running for a few weeks.

This really is a green Winter. The green grass here are the greens at the Fors golf course. The red buildings in the background belongs to the farm Östergården.

Winter at Berga

The sun came back today. With a blue sky for at least for a few hours, so I jumped on the bike and headed out for a spin. This is the Agricultural College Berga seen from the old Kapp Ekeby village road. Around 3C and no wind so it was a nice ride and I did meet a lot of people out cycling, jogging and walking.

That Old Tree

It was on a Christmas Day walk back in 2005 that I started the project That Old Tree. Since that day I have walked down this path 358 times. The weather today was different from 2005, but one thing was the same, the lack of snow. On this walk it was raining from a very grey sky. Horrible weather, I only met the people on this promenade, everyone else was at home yelling at their relatives.

Saved By Birdman

Earlier this year the municipality planned to demolish this fine old building, Klockargården in Västerhaninge. The building dates back to around 1860 and was used as a school for many years. I believe that my grandfather was a student here for a few years. My friend Birdman whom you have met here a few times, and who lives in an apartment on the second floor, was obviously very upset about that decision. So he decided to do whatever he could to save the building, (and his home). He called a few journalists and got in contact with the local historical association. And a few months later the politicians changed their mind and decided to spend three million SEK for the restoration of Klockargården. One of those politicians that helped save the building was Peter Olevik-Dunder, whom you have also met here on the blog. God Jul everyone.

Twas the day before Christmas

Twas the day before Christmas (we celebrate on the 24th), and these happy people were queuing outside the Systembolaget in Västerhaninge, waiting for the chance to queue a bit more inside. Systembolaget is the government owned chain of liquor stores, and the only (legal), place where you can shop alcoholic beverages. Skål!

A Grey Day At Little Lake

A grey December day at little lake in Jordbro. Compared to a Calm Day in August. Looks like we will have a grey Christmas this year. No snow in sight.

Lighting installation

Do something cool at the commuter station in Jordbro why don't you said the municipality to Olsson and Linder. This is what they came up with. Big light balls. Olsson and Linder then asked the kids in Jordbro to come up with words to be written on the light balls. So now you can read words like Love, Fun, and a few others in different languages for the second year running.

Another grey day

No sign of the sun lately. Everything is grey and dark. This is a little birch forest in Handen next to the Slätmossen nature park, you don't see too many people here, just the odd dog owner and nutty photographer.

Fitness Is Religion

Pentecostalism is out. Fintess is in.iForm will open a gym in the former church in Tungelsta soon. Sounds like progress to me.

The Before Photos

I climbed up a hill in Handen a few days ago. The reason for that was to find a good spot for shooting photos of old City Hall and the two big water towers. Both places will look very different in the near future. The City Hall building which is located at the Haninge mall has been empty for nearly six years. PEAB will now rebuild it into an apartment complex. New balconies will be added and windows will be changed . If you stand on the roof of that building you can see for miles away in every direction. As for the water towers, they will get a reflective surface with different colored triangles that will change color during the season and even during the day. One tower will reflect the sky and the other the surrounding area. I think I found a good spot so expect to see updated views every now and then.

A Stylish Writer

He was a good dresser back in the day Ivar Lo Johansson. And it looks like he is keeping that up even after his death. This was his look today when I spotted him across the road from the grocery store in Tungelsta.

A Rock 'n' Roll Christmas

Out walking yesterday I decided to circle the greenhouse in the park in Tungelsta where there was a Christmas Market. On one photo I managed to get a snap of the guitarist in the rock band Lugnet, Bonden Jansson kissing his girlfriend who is wearing a "tomteluva".
