My old school is no more

I was a student at this school a few eons ago. This secondary school in Handen was named after the feminist Fredrika Bremer who grew up in Haninge. When I was a student here, this part of the school was nicknamed Fredrik, as nearly all the students here were male. There is a new, very modern "Fredrik" school across the road from here. I have read about the plans for this part of Handen quite a few times over the last ten years. There's an industrial park here that some politicians would like to see gone so that they can sell the land here and build new homes. Not sure if that will happen any time soon, though, as that market is pretty much dead in Sweden at the moment.

The green lung

Eskilsparken. The green lung in Handen. Popular with sunbathers during the Summer. This Winter, a good place to go sledding with the kids. When I stopped by there yesterday, it looked very icy. The second photo is just ice and snow, and a bench. Normally, you would walk down the grassy hill to meet up with your friends for a picnic. Try that today and chances are you would end up at the emergency room with a broken leg.

Tearing down a temple

One of my BBQ buddies, Jujja, texted me a while back. Asking if I knew what was happening at the Mormon temple in Västerhaninge, (the only one in Sweden). I did not. It looks like it is going down, he said. We agreed that was good news, because we don't believe in the supernatural, heaven and hell and all that nonsense. I still remember being upset when they built it forty years ago. So I was happy for a day or two until I read an article about the temple in the local paper. Tearing it down because they are building a new temple. The guy who runs the show. Mr. 10 % as I like to call him, lives in a very big and luxurious house with his own private beach, (stolen from the municipality btw). And he, Mr. 10% is good friends with the other BBQ friend Hasse, from Villa Blåmes.

January Sunset

We had a blue sky yesterday. So I knew that the sunset could be a colorful one, and it was.

A pile

Walking past a not so very busy construction site at Lillgården in Tungelsta. In the background, the yellow apartment buildings at Ankaret. I live just on the other side of the hill to the left of those yellow houses.

Lonely man walking

Normally I always enjoy a lengthy promenade. This Winter, not so much. The wind chill factor here made it a rather unpleasant walk.

Chunks of ice

The unusual winter weather continues. Two recent storms, a lot of rain and warmer weather melted away most of the snow. That was followed by more snow, because why not. I took this photo of broken-up ice on the Rocklösaån stream at Krigslida a few days ago while out on a bike ride.

Tungelstagrillen

First opened as a tiny kiosk operated by Pressbyrån. My friends and I drove the owner mad by stealing from there until she told our parents about it, that must have been around 1978. Years later a classmate of mine, Susanne, bought the kiosk. Within a few years, she had enough money to build a new, much larger kiosk that she named Sassagrillen. Since then there have been several different owners. It was a kebab place for a few years. Today it is called Tungelstagrillen, although the sign says Tungelsta Grill, which is not correct Swedish. Also known as Roys Grillbar & Café.

No Winter Maintenance

The stairs up from the tunnel at the commuter station in Tungelsta. Yet to figure out why they built the stairs, maybe only meant for Summer use? I usually pass by here on my bike, so I use the bike path, which is icy, but usually snow free.

The brick church

The modern brick Church in Tungelsta. Designed by the architect Rolf Bergh back in the early 1970s. I remember climbing up here during the construction when I was ten years old. It was fun and scary at the same time. Before the church, there was a greenhouse nursery here, and the first people to be buried at the cemetery, next to the church, were the gardener and his wife.

Välsta gård

This is an unusual Winter. Very cold days followed by a few warmer periods with a lot of new snow. Add a snowstorm, followed by more cold weather. Then a few days with around freezing. Yesterday it was cold again, dropping to -13C. And then this morning warmer again, around 0C. This is a house at the Välsta farm that I walk by occasionally. One of those places where I will often stop for another photo.

Commuter station

Walking over the bridge at Stavsvägen, looking down at the empty commuter station in Tungelsta. One minute before the train heading to Nynäshamn arrives just after six in the evening a couple of cold nights ago.

Vertikalpelare

Another really cold day, followed by an even colder evening.-15C last night when I loooked at the thermometer. This was the sunset yesterday afternoon, with another sun pillar.

Snowstorm

We had a snowstorm yesterday. All day, everywhere. Chaos followed by chaos and then more chaos.

That Old Tree

My Winter walk yesterday was a cold one. -13C, but with a blue sky. I figured a blue hour photo of the old tree was in order. I walked over an open field to get there, and I could really feel the cold out there. I also tried my best to walk in the footstep of someone who had walked over the field a bit earlier, as we do have a lot of snow at the moment.

It is cold today

We had a cold morning today. -15C.

New Bridge

The new pedestrian bridge crossing the Nynäsbanan railway track at the Rudan nature reserve is now open. The old one was deemed unsafe after someone drove over it with a car, or at least that was the rumor I heard. The houses in the background are all new, this is the same area I showed you a few days ago with the scaffolding. What you see to the left in the top photo is a new school.

Winter at Rudan

The big barn up ahead in the middle of the photo is the theater barn. Operated by a group called Ormteatern. Started back in the late 1970s by my then school teachers husband. I remember that we saw one of their first plays, but can't for the life of me remember what it was about. I have seen a few musicians perform on stage in there, but that was a few years ago now. The building to the right belongs to the cross-country skiing club. Most of the old buildings here at the Rudan nature reserve used to be part of an old farm. Everything here is today owned by the municipality.

Taking the shot

Cycling through the nature park Slätmossen in Handen I decided to stop and take my usual photo from the wooden bridge. This guy was already there having the same idea so I decided to document him in action. I asked him if he had seen a moose nearby as they can often be seen here, but he had not.

Tressfit

You will find this outdoor gym between the two lakes at the Rudan nature reserve. I guess it is a little too cold for the gym people this time of the year. I moved around a bit before shooting this as I tried to both show the Winter sun, and block it out a bit.

Winter Construction

New apartments under construction in Handen. A few years ago this was a little forest with a few old summer houses. From here you are just a short walk from both the commuter station, mall and the Rudan nature reserve.

A lone ice fisherman

Nedre Rudasjön. One of the two lakes at the nature reserve in Handen. Just a few minutes walk from the commuter station. Normally you would see a few more guys out on the ice, but yesterday it was just this guy. I arrived on my ebike. Ice and snow on most of the bike paths. I got a flat tire after 15 km. Had to walk with the bike for 5 km.

Chilly Day

This was my bedroom window yesterday morning. It was a chilly start to the day. The house is old, built by my great grandparents 120 years ago. Double glazing, but from way back when. Supposed to me much warmer today. The forecast says 0C around noon.

Övre Välsta

Övre Välsta. Upper Välsta. There once stood an old farm house on the top of this hill. That house burned down many years ago and was replaced with this building. I often walk by it on my way to the old tree. Since quite a long time the home of Christina Lindberg.

Horsin' Around

Walking past the horse farm at Mulsta a few cold Winter days ago. I often take this road on my way to and from the old tree. There are a few interesting signs here. One says, don't feed the horses they have plenty to eat. Another one explains that two of the horses you might see here have food allergies, but not to worry about it as people of course have done in a local Facebook group.

The Tungelsta Alps

A monochrome view over the non-existing Tungelsta Alps. Snapped at a field in Lillgården a few days ago, on one of those cold Winter walks of late. -11C this morning, but with a blue sky. Expecting even colder weather later today and overnight

Solpelare

Still feeling weak after eating something I shouldn't have two days ago. But I did manage to go out for a short walk just as the sun was setting a few minutes ago, and managed to photograph this "Solpelare" up on the hill here at Bergdalen in Tungelsta.

Snowstorm

And now the weather. -43C. That sounds a litle too cold for my liking. It was ot that cold when I took this photo yesterday, but snowy enough to make me stay indoors. We are expetig a lot of snow around Stockholm today, folllowed by colder weather.Brrr.

Don't fence me in

Happy New Year

Trying to find the best photo of the year is of course impossible. But I still remember taking the street photo of the wedding couple at Stockholm City Hall so that is my pick. I took the top photo just after midnight from a window on the second floor at home. Gott nytt år everyone.
