Café Söderberg

Café Söderberg
This is where Doctor Glas poisoned Reverend Gregorius. Sort of. Café Söderberg is a very popular place at Kungsträdgården in Stockholm, year round.

The Graffiti Bar

Graffiti Kök & Bar Graffiti Kök & Bar Årstafrun
Opening soon. Graffiti Kök & Bar at Tanto on Södermalm in Stockholm. Managed by Astrid Hultberg and Gabrielle Söderberg. Designed by the graffiti artist Brain, real name Lee Spångberg, (and a few of his mates), who were spraying around the corner when I snapped these photos a couple of days ago. There is a legal graffiti wall nearby, and previous owners of this café had a lot of problems with graffiti, so the new owners solved that by inviting the graffers to decorate the bar. The third photo might look like just another face, but it isnt. It's made by the street artist Martin Monet. And it depicts The Årsta Lady, who kept a diary between 1793 and 1839. If you understand the local lingo you can read some of what she wrote in the book Årstadagboken. She was friends with Bellman btw. Oh, and the face in the second photo is of Avicii. And yes, that is my ebike in the photo.

Café Tårtan

Café Tårtan
Back in the 70s, there were a children's show called Tårtan running on Swedish TV. The Cake. Quite surreal. Made by a couple of artists, so they filmed it in black & white. They had a very tight budget, but they were told that they could do anything they wanted, and that is what they did. They filmed the show at an abandoned bakery on Södermalm. The idea was that three sailors took over a bakery, but had no idea how to operate it, so it was non-stop chaos. All the producers and bosses at the state owned TV Network hated it. But it aired anyway. Ten years later, give or take, it was a cultural icon. Anyway, this is the place. Today a café named after the TV-show. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6K4pK3agxjE

November Darkness

The Café
This is a new café in Tungelsta. It is called Med Mig. With Me. Unusual name. A dine-in café with no deliveries. The building has an interesting history. It was a church for a long time. After that, it became a gym. That only lasted a few years. It will be fun to see how long the café will be around. Snapped this on Sunday afternoon.

Västerby

Rural Sweden A little cafe Västerby Bygdegård
Three photos from Västerby in Nynäshamn. Here you see a few houses in the Summer green, a little cafe, popular with cyclists and bikers, and the old village hall where they brew the coffee and bake the cakes for the cafe. Shot while out on a bike ride a few days before buying the eBike.

Wofflans Stenugnsbageri Wofflans Stenugnsbageri Wofflans Stenugnsbageri
Out photographing all the new houses currently under construction at Vegastaden,(will show you a few later), I stopped outside this cafe that has been open for quite a while now. I am yet to try it, but I have heard a lot of good things about it.

Coffee in the garden

Coffee in the garden Västerby Bygdegård The cafe at Västerby in Nynäshamn used to be up in that red cottage. But today you can find it in the bygdegård building, second photo. This is always a popular stop for bikers and cyclists that are out riding along Sorundavägen.

How to...

The Expert, (long rant)
So in this country you can get a tiny paper package containing two sugar cubes at cafe's and restaurants. And there's a cunning way to open the package. But, and here's the thing, no one really knows, (or cares), how to do that the correct way. That is if you don't count Hasse, who is the self-proclaimed expert in this matter. And earlier this year he showed me how to do it. But as often happens when he starts yapping, no one listens. So when I opened such a package at a cafe yesterday afternoon he completely lost it! I had to go back and get another package so that he could demonstrate to me how to correctly open it. And he also ordered me to take a photo after his impressive performance and this is that photo. Oh, and the trick is to open the package with both thumbs. Something I am likely to never forget now.

Vimmel och Pannkaka

Vimmel och Pannkaka Do you want pancakes with that?
New cafe, (fik in Swedish), along Mulstavägen at Välsta in Tungelsta. Vimmel och Pannkaka. Opened by Veronika Nordh whom you can see in the second photo. It's a food truck in the garden at the horse farm near the old tree. Opened for business over the weekend. I was there yesterday. The coffee was just fine according to these two guys that accompanied me here. And very inexpensive at 10 SEK with included påtår! Will try the pancakes next time.

Accidents Happen

Accidents Happen
The sign at the FikAnn cafe at Vega in Handen reads "Moped rider sure, but this was "jävligt" boring!" The F-word is pretty much a Swedish word these days, everyone uses it everywhere. But for the fun of it I translated it back to Swedish here. This is at least the third instalment that I have seen here. The Christmas version was Santa on a kicksled. And another Summer version with a motorcycle usually appears around the time that the big motor meets takes place across the road at the legendary Vegabaren.

Ice-cream and Coffee

Ice-cream & Coffee
Weird weather of late. As I'm typing this it's 6C from a very grey sky, and it has been raining. Later in the week we are expecting up to 15C and a bit of sunshine, I sure hope that happens. I took this photo four days ago at my favorite cafe. It was maybe 3C, but with a blue sky so tough Viking Micke Klein and one of his sons decided to enjoy ice-cream and coffee outdoors. You have seen Micke before, but as you don't remember that click here.

The Lovely Emma

Coffee at Malmens

Mamma ♡

Showing a bit of leg

I have been shooting a lot of portraits lately of people that used to be strangers to me. Because once I have photographed someone I usually see them all the time. And when I do I often ask if I can take another portrait. And find out what has happened in their life since we last met. So this is Emma. You first met her back in November. Since then I have met her at Malmens cafe a couple of times. Emma's friend Matilda has moved away from Haninge so these days she often hangs with a new friend (not seen here). So while Emma and her sister where having coffee and cigarettes at one table I sat at the next table talking with my friend Jim, while taking a bunch of photos of Emma and her tattoos. She told me they are all about her family. And i really like the Mamma tattoo.

Meanwhile, at the...

Meanwhile, at the...

...Hopeful Cafe.

A year ago this was where I spotted the first sign of spring. Back then it was the beautiful Charlotte and her friends that caught my eye. Haven't seen anyone here this year, but at least there's some hope of spring!

Caffe Latte Anyone?

Caffe Latte Anyone?

Tungelsta had a big laundry industry at the start of the last century. This building at the park in Tungelsta is built to look as the barns used in that industry 100 years ago. But it is in fact a cafe, where you can listen to music and hear poetry being read. The people trying to "break in" to the "Torklada" here is Jan Sandh from Föreningen Folk och Trädgård, and an unknown woman. Bigger photo.
