Heading home

The bike path at Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge a couple of days ago. Worth the stop, I think. This very straight path follows the Nynäsbanan railway tracks from here to the next station, which is Krigslida. There is a bridge up ahead. I followed the construction of it quite a few years ago now.

Heading home

Cycling home from Stockholm one day last week, I took a shortcut, and stopped by the beach at Hökarängsbadet. It was just me and a flock of birds down by the water at Lake Drevviken as I took the photo with the moon over Sköndal. One hour later I was at Nederstaleden where a bike path follows the railroad between Västerhaninge and Krigslida. I took the third photo at another bike path, this one at Stav. The red house at Mulsta often looks nice in the dark. I took the last photo where that bike path ends, at Lillgården with the new row houses and the Jensen school.

September vs. May

A favorite spot along Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge. The colors are a bit different today compared with how it looks in the Spring.

...any other bridge really. I call this one the bridge to nowhere. Mostly because I took a photo of it before it was finished. But it is a bit on the ugly side.

Autumn Colors

Autumn is here. And with Autumn came the strong winds. And a bit of rain. Not my favorite weather at all. These trees stand on a lawn along Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge.

The colors are back

Finally! It was a long and cold wait but now the colors are back, everywhere. I pass by these trees at Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge most days and it was a great feeling seeing this.

A Balancing Act

Who needs a harness when you have good balance. Two roofers at work. Laying new roof tiles on a house along Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge earlier this week. If they work weekends they could change into khaki-shorts and t-shirts come Sunday, as we are expecting record breaking temperatures then. If they are there today they will need the water proofs.

Blooming Trees

I usually take one photo per year of these trees at Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge. And it is always at this time of the year, when they bloom. Shot with the 85mm lens, so this is a bunch of photos stitched together. The Brenizer-effect might not work perfectly here, but you can't have everything.

Motvind

Swedish word of the day. Motvind. Headwind. The new walkway/bike path between Västerhaninge and Nedersta runs alongside the Nynäsbanan rail track. It feels like two kilometres of headwind most days.

Black Butler

This is Sara. Dressed like Ciel Phantomhive in the Black Butler. She told me that there's a lot of her in that character. She was on her way to a friends place when we met in Västerhaninge. Sara is a secondary school student. She is good at graphic design and comic drawing. When she graduates from secondary school she wants to study at Berghs School of Communication in Stockholm. She also told me that she owns a Canon 550 and the nifty fifty lens, obviously she is a very smart girl!

The Groupie

Alina was sunbathing when I asked her if I could get a photo. It was a good day for sunbathing, around 25C. She jokingly told me that she was the No Name Duo's groupie. I don't have any groupies that I know off. Maybe I should take up playing an instrument! Shot the portrait with the nifty fifty into the sun so I used the flash and quite like the result.

No Name Duo

Christoffer seems to have a thing for playing drums outdoors. Preferably on grassy fields. That was what he was doing at Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge a couple of days ago. And one year ago when I spotted him at Nedersta doing the same thing. This time he did it together with his friend Aleksander. They were rehearsing for a wedding gig. The duo with no name (yet), plays at bars, parties and weddings. Oh, and this is three photos stitched together. Shot with the nifty fifty.

Too Cool for School

These days when I see someone that I would like to photograph I usually tell them what it was about them that made me look one extra time. In Anton's case is was his symmetrically trashed jeans. He has ripped them himself. I was in a class at school one day and it was so boring that I started trashing my jeans was his explanation. Anton is a secondary school student. On his free time he plays floorball for IBK Handen. A sport that first saw the light in Sweden in the 1970s. Anton plays in the Boys 95 team, but is hoping to make it into the Men's Team. Oh, I should say that I have played the sport myself, although in a less serious environment, you can see the proof of that on this old photo.

The Walkway

This is the walkway at Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge. The winter version is how it looks today. The green version is how it looks in July. July is my favorite. I use this walkway year round and have shot a couple of portraits here over the last few years.

Mind the Gap!

It can't have been very fun to work outdoors during the last few weeks. Svevia is building a pedestrian bridge over the railway line Nynäsbanan, at Håga in Västerhaninge. So far only half the bridge is in place, so if you were to try the bridge now you would fall down very close to the tracks, so don't try that. The reason for the bridge is the construction of a second rail-track between Västerhaninge and Tungelsta. Two weeks ago I showed you another construction site. That one was in Tungelsta where they are building a larger bridge.

Building a Bridge

The railway line Nynäsbanan (between the port city of Nynäshamn and our Capitol Stockholm), opened for traffic back in 1901. A century later it has been a busy construction site for a few years. During the last three summers traffic has been closed when some of the commuter stations have been rebuilt. Close to where I live one new road and two bridges are being constructed, and I have been following the progress every now and then. Two weeks ago work began on a pedestrian bridge at Håga in Västerhaninge. The new passage is only a few meters away from one of my previous photo projects, See four photos in one here), so I figured it might be a good idea to grab a photo here once a week or so.

A Trio on a Thin Tin Roof

There has been many snow related accidents this winter. A few weeks ago many roofs started to collapse all over the country.Tennis halls, old barns and more. Not surprising as we've had around one meter of snow in the last 10 weeks. So everywhere you look these days there's people up on the roofs working hard to remove all the snow to prevent further accidents. Like here on a garage roof at Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge. The hard working trio told me that it was a very thin roof here, and that can't be very good. The young woman who is on her way up onto the roof, via the tractor on the first photo, was afraid of heights but she had to overcome that fear on this occasion.

The Scania Man

This is Mihály ( a Hungarian name). While still on the bike I commented on his summer outfit, asking him if it wasnt cold, but he said "not if you are warm on the inside". A few kilometres later I noticed him behind me and decided to wave him down for a chat and a photo. He had been on the bike for a while already as he came all the way from Södertälje which is a 30 km ride away. He was heading for the Medieval church in Västerhaninge where his parents rest at the burial ground. Mihali works at Scania in Södertälje (where Peter took a photo last week). He has been employed there since 1975. Now they will have to take a ten percent pay cut and a four day work week from June because of the recession. He is married and has kids and grand kids. He doesn't own a computer or a mobile phone ( but the wife had a PC, so he was going to check out my photos with her help). He knew a lot about Tungelsta, which we talked a little about. The reason for that is that he used to live there for nearly twenty years. So we have been students at the same school, although Mihali was there a few years before I was born.
