It snowed for a few minutes this morning. As I'm typing this it is raining. Day 11 in my projet 100 Days Of Darkness. The commuter at the Tungelsta station.

The Commuter Train

The commuter train to Stockholm arrives at the Tungelsta station on a dark and rainy December afternoon.

An open field

Lots of construction in this part of Tungelsta recently with the new commuter station and the new houses at Stav/Lillgården. And there's plenty more to come. This open field at Lillgården will soon be history. A year from now when the construction of the houses in the background will be finished this big field will be a busy building site as a number of six-storey apartment buildings, a pre-school and a gymnasium will be constructed here. Commuter Station Remodelling

The remodelling of the Tungelsta commuter station continues. Still a few things to do before they are done, but it's getting there. This is how the entrance to the tunnel looks from the "Lillgården" side at the moment. You have been able to bike through it for a few weeks now although there's still some work left on the walkway that leads to the tunnel. I took the photo with the 6D using the nifty fifty lens just as the commuter train left the station heading for the Hemfosa platform.

Train Station in Winter

-3C when I took this snap of the commuter station in Tungelsta earlier today. Still a lot of work until that second rail-track will be operational. A rail-road switch malfunctioned in Stockholm yesterday morning. My brothers commute home last evening took two hours. He was not amused, but then again he flew to Athens this morning and will work from there for a week. No snow problem there I think.

Just a coincidence

Non-stop rain for days now. Managed to take this photo from a pedestrian bridge in Västerhaninge while there was a break in the downpour. Nothing special about the photo, just the commuter train heading towards Krigslida. I spiced it up with a fake tilt-shift. But I got a fun comment on the photo at flickr. One of my contacts saying that it is probably him driving the train! And it's even more fun because it was a little over four years ago that I spotted a wedding couple in Handen and asked if I could get a photo. And the groom is the guy driving the train.

Trains at a station

Two commuter trains at the Tungelsta station. Shot this from the newish bridge. If you shoot a scene like this one, a bit from above it is easy to make it into a miniature scene. For this photo I downloaded a free copy of a software called Focal Point 2. It is very easy to use. If you want to try it check out their web site.

A Train in Winter

The cold weather has returned. Minus 5C yesterday. It was snowing a little and it was windy. Not my kind of weather at all. This is the commuter train closing in on the Västerhaninge station. Photographed from the pedestrian bridge at Nederstaleden. In the background you can see the new Krigslida bridge which is yet to open for traffic.

Tungelsta Commuter Station

Sometimes if the weather is crap I will go for a photo promenade around Tungelsta. And during the last three days the weather in question has been just that. Awful. It was warmer actually during Christmas last year compared to this weekend. Yesterday during the Stockhom Marathon it was the coldest summer day for nearly ninety years. Anyway this might be a familiar view to some of the readers. This is the Tungelsta commuter station. The commuter from Stockholm has just arrived. The panorama is made from ten photos. Miniature Trains

The commuter train is always fun to photograph. This one is a bit different. Shot earlier this week from the newish bridge crossing the Tungelsta commuter station. To spice the photo up a bit I added a fake tiltshift effect.

Did you know...

Two buildings in Tungelsta with some interesting facts. To the right the old Tungelsta Station House. It's been there since 1901 when the railroad to Stockholm opened for traffic. The architect was possibly the famous Ferdinand Boberg, but no one knows for sure. What we do know is that the retired station master still lives in an apartment on the second floor. To the left a building that might have been moved to it's current position back in 1901. Before the move it is said that the house was located in a rural village known as Fors, a few kilometers from here, where it served as a convenience store. No one knows for sure how it really was. But it was a convenience store on it's current location for many years. And there's more. There's a locked room on the top floor according to Birdman who lived in the building as a child. And it is also said that the King of Sweden spent the night in a room on the second floor when the railway opened for traffic. Since then that room has been called the Royal room, but there are no evidence that the King really stayed there. It snowed a bit today so I took my old Canon 300D with me and took these photos with that camera.

Krigslida Commuter Station

Here is the answer to yesterdays question. This is the Krigslida Commuter Station along the Nynäsbanan railway line. Traffic got under way this morning. Seven weeks ago this was just a messy construction site. The old platform had been removed as had all the rail. The new platform has been moved a little to the south. The reason for all this is that a second rail-track is planned between Västerhaninge and Tungelsta. Work on that has been going on for a few years now mostly during the summer when traffic has been stopped. I have previously showed you a few new bridges and roads in the area. At the moment there's only one rail-track here, but all the preparations for the second track are done and it will be built come the spring, some time in April.

The Commuter

The commuter station leaving Handen, heading for Stockholm. I took this photo one hour ago near the Elephant Rock at Upper Lake Rudan. The tiny beach to the left is where I met the two tough swimming girls earlier this year.

Downtown Tungelsta

One of those Tungelsta views that I document every now and then. In a few years time this snowy field will be filled with new houses. This is the view from Söderbyvägen in Lillgården, towards the commuter station. The new X60 has just arrived from Nynäshamn and is waiting for the commuter train from Västerhaninge. There's only one railway track here, so the trains always meet at the Tungelsta station. But that will soon change. If you would like to see the old commuter, press here for The Ice Train. The yellow station house dates back to 1902. I have showed it to you before. It was designed by the famous architect Ferdinand Boberg. Today it is used as a private home, and you will also find the Handlaget's handicraft boutique there.

The Commuter

Another cold night. Followed by an equally cold day. My brother left for Cyprus in the early hours of this morning. It's a little warmer down there. He sometimes complain that the ten minute walk between his office and apartment will make him sweat, poor guy. Because of the very low temperatures, a few not very clever people, have upped their indoor heating so much so that we had a few power out's during the night. Not in Tungelsta, but out on a few of the big islands here in Haninge. That can't have been a very comfy night. Anyway, today's photo shows the X60 commuter at the Tungelsta commuter station. It was - 15 Celsius as I shot this, so it's quite understandable that local boy Per Johnsson is trying his best to get the commuter door to open and let him in. The train will take him to Västerhaninge in five minutes. From there there's a thirty minute commute to Stockholm.

Winter Chaos

Winter is here. We had the first snow overnight. Here is the result. Unhappy commuters. This was the scene earlier this morning at the Tungelsta commuter station. The commuters were told that there were no trains between Nynäshamn and Västerhaninge because of the weather. So these people had to walk back to the bus stop and wait for the delayed bus...

A little too close to the railway line

I took this photo to show you how close to the railway line Nynäsbanan, this new house at Nederstavägen in Lida is being built. The train is the old commuter, arriving at the Krigslida station. Next stop a km down the line, is Tungelsta. The line is 100 years old and in a few years time there will be another track built here. Could be time to put up a fence if the happy home owners have kids?

The Ice Train
