Commuter station

Walking over the bridge at Stavsvägen, looking down at the empty commuter station in Tungelsta. One minute before the train heading to Nynäshamn arrives just after six in the evening a couple of cold nights ago.

The Commuter Station

When they first turned on the light installation at the commuter station in Tungelsta, back in November, the lights were blue. As a reminder about prostate cancer. Now it is back to the original colors for, and I'm guessing here Christmas.

November Mood

November. Not my favorite month of the year. It is not even in the top ten list. Cycling home I took this photo of the Tungelsta commuter station. The tree with the lights, behind the glass house makes the scene a bit more interesting in the dark, and we need all the help we can get this time of the year!

It snowed for a few minutes this morning. As I'm typing this it is raining. Day 11 in my projet 100 Days Of Darkness. The commuter at the Tungelsta station.

Before and After

The new commuter station at Vegastaden opens for traffic next Monday. Work started on it back in 2015 and I remember walking around here back then thinking this is going to take some time to finish. When the work on the new "city" is finished ten thousand people will live here so the station will probably be quite busy. I took the top two photos last Friday. The last to in May of 2015.

The Glass House

I attended the opening ceremony for the rebuilt commuter station in Tungelsta last year. There were a few speeches, the new glass house was mentioned a few times. We were treated to free cake and as usual it all ended with the ribbon cutting. Since that day there has been flooding in the tunnel, and also some window smashing. Not sure that this is how the architect wanted it to look but you never know.

An open field

Lots of construction in this part of Tungelsta recently with the new commuter station and the new houses at Stav/Lillgården. And there's plenty more to come. This open field at Lillgården will soon be history. A year from now when the construction of the houses in the background will be finished this big field will be a busy building site as a number of six-storey apartment buildings, a pre-school and a gymnasium will be constructed here. November Darkness

November. Not my favorite month of the year. It feels like it is dark 24/7. Most of the the Autumn colors are gone. Icy roads in the morning. Cold and rainy. I got this idea of shooting one month of evening photos. We will see if I can go through with it. If so this is the first photo in the series. It shows the new "glass house" waiting area at the Tungelsta commuter station, next to the century old Station House, where the last station master still lives. Shot handheld with my new Canon zoom lens at ISO 1250.

I hereby declare...

... the new commuter station in Tungelsta for open. The Mayor of Haninge, Meeri Wasberg, assisted by Mattias Sjöström Varg and Gunnar Hammar cutting the tape during the official opening of the new commuter station in Tungelsta yesterday afternoon. Around 150 people had turned up for the opening and they could all be seen enjoying cake&coffee. It's been a long time coming this, the station and the surrounding area has been a construction site off and on for the last decade. Asphalt Paver

I can't remember how much work has been done do the commuter station in Tungelsta over the last decade, but it is a lot. And I have been trying my best to document that and other rail-road-related work in a photo album called Nynäsbanan, which is the name of the railway line between Stockholm and Nynäshamn. But it now looks like they are finishing up here. Took this photo a few days ago when the workers were busy paving the road in front of the station, and also fixing a new parking area. Commuter Station Remodelling

The remodelling of the Tungelsta commuter station continues. Still a few things to do before they are done, but it's getting there. This is how the entrance to the tunnel looks from the "Lillgården" side at the moment. You have been able to bike through it for a few weeks now although there's still some work left on the walkway that leads to the tunnel. I took the photo with the 6D using the nifty fifty lens just as the commuter train left the station heading for the Hemfosa platform.

The New Commuter Station

The rebuilt commuter station in Tungelsta is starting to look a bit like the illustrations I saw at the Trafikverket web site before the work began. You can now bike under the tunnel, something that will come in handy as they closed the rail-road crossing two years ago. I shot this with the full frame camera, standing on stairs that are not yet in use. It took nine photos using the nifty fifty lens I then cropped the finished panorama to look like normal photo.
