Haninge Sinfonietta

Haninge Sinfonietta opened the Haninge Day celebrations at Poseidon's square in Handen today. Conducted by Sabine Beyer. Nice start of the day with some classical music.

Facial Expressions

Always fun to do a bit of people watching. This snap is from last Saturday. The Haninge Day took place near the mall. I had taken a candid photo of the hugging couple a little earlier. I think they spotted me both times.

Linda Pira & The Salazar Brothers

Linda Pira & The Salazar Brothers performing on the big stage during Haninge Day. Linda is a rapper who won the Grammis Awards of 2014 for Newcomer of the year. Not my music but as I was there I decided to check it out.

The Sweden Finns

A new band performed their first ever gig during the Haninge Day on Saturday. Sverigefinnarna. Translated that would mean The Sweden Finns. They have an interesting line-up. The drummer, Harri Mänty, is the former guitarist in Sweden's most popular band over the last 15 years, Kent. The singer, Markus Fagerwall, won the Swedish version of Idol back in 2006. The bass player, Heikki Kiviaho, has worked as a producer to several big names. And he was a punk rocker back in the late 1970s in his home town of Eskilstuna. The last member of the band is his brother Hannu Kiviaho, nick named Fatboy, he is the guy with the beautiful guitar.Hannu is also a well known actor. So what did they sing about? That is a good question. The songs I heard were all in Finnish, a language I don't master at all. But it was fun to see them together on stage.

Maia

Maia and VildirHeart performed during the Haninge Day celebrations. I missed their gig, but noticed the always very photogenic Maia a little later and decided to shoot a portrait of her. She told me that they are working on their next album at the moment. Click here for a video with the band.

I showed you a collage with snaps of the band That Driving Beat a couple of days ago. They performed during the Haninge Day. I also told you that I found one of the band members quite photogenic. This is her. The backing vocalist Cecilia.

Portraits of the Male

Arriving to the Haninge Day celebrations I decided to go for a portrait round with the nifty fifty. Here are a few of those portraits. All male this time around. Be prepared. It was raining, so Emil and the other scouts from Jordbro did a good deed with the frying of the hamburgers. I also spotted a "raggare", Pierre Lewenhagen. He is a member of BelsebuB CruiserS, and drives a 1959 Ford. Tomas comes from from Södertörns bataljon. The Swedish National Home Guard. They operate within Tyresö, Haninge and Nynäshamn. Tomas have been with them for around three years now. Fredrik & Johannes more or less asked to have their photo taken so I obliviously obliged. Last but not least is Local politician Peter Olevik Dunder from the Liberal Party. One of my followers on twitter. Earlier this summer I took a portrait of his niece, Caroline.

Anna Järvinen

The big name to play at the Haninge Day was Anna Järvinen. I remember her from the days when she was a member of the indieband Granada. Since then she has released three solo albums. It was a tough gig for Anna on Saturday. It was a bit chilly and it had started to rain when she took to the stage. After the gig when I walked up to the stage and asked her for a few portraits she told me that she had a had a toothache, so full credit to Anna for toughing it out.

Ebba

Remember that girl I photographed during the Rock Festival in the park in Tungelsta a while back? Well here she is again. I spotted Ebba Lundell in the crowd during the Haninge Day celebrations on Saturday and asked her for a portrait. She was with a friend so I shot one of them together as well. A little later I noticed her on the stage at the theatre barn and walked over to hear her perform in the light rain. Ebba has a fine voice and I'm sure we will hear more from her in the future.

Everybody Dance Now!

A great band to perform during the Haninge day was That Driving Beat. I found one of the members especially photogenic, but I'm not going to say who. But I did ask her for a few portraits after the gig. Everybody Dance Now is the name of their new single.

Jazz and a Fakir

The annual Haninge Day was a wet affair this year. It rained on and off which probably scared away a lot of people. I will show you some photos in the coming days from the event. Here you see some of the musicians in the jazz band Gustens Svänggäng. They have played together since the beginning of time, or at least 1956. The fakir is called Orthae and he did his best to scare all the kids that was watching his performance.

Haninge Day

I have uploaded 53 photos from the 2012 Haninge Day. And here they all are. You will see a jazz band that have been playing together since 1956. A journalist/photographer from the municipality. A tired mascot. People trying QI breathing. Kids playing volleyball. Soldiers from The Swedish National Home Guard. The hat of the day. A famous clown. Martial Arts. Handicraft. And more, including the stilt dancer.

Do the Zumba!

Zumba Mary was back again. Doing the Zumba all day long during the Haninge Day celebrations. She told me that she had just returned home from a four day long Zumba Instructor Convention in Florida. I think it is safe to say that she was the fittest person at the lakes.

The Deacon with the Dimples

This is the Deacon Katija Smalliakowa. I met her during the Haninge Day celebrations at Lake Rudan on Saturday. Walking past the Österhainge Parish information tent I took a glass of lemonade and that's when I spotted the Deacon. She knew the Priestess Sara, although they don't work in the same parish.

A little something for the kids

There was much to try and look at for the kids at the Haninge Day celebrations at Rudan on Saturday. Here are a few examples. The red steel horse from Tungelsta Ridklubb was enjoying some hay while waiting for adventurous kids. Trying your luck at a few musical instruments can be interesting. Karate also looks like fun.

The annual Haninge Day took place at Lake Rudan in Handen on Saturday. My Canon is visiting Iceland over the weekend so I had to dig out the old Rebel to use while people watching. More snaps from this event in the coming days.

Curry the Fakir

Because of the rain some of the performances during the Haninge Day had to be moved to two indoor scenes and I didn't bother to check those out. This guy did put on a show outdoors. This is Curry the Fakir. He was a big hit with the kids who screamed to him not to put the burning torch downs his pants! Between his shows he walked around the area on stilts. He has one Youtube video online so I decided to post that here for you to enjoy!

Three Portraits

Three different portraits from the Haninge Day at Lake Rudan. The first one was tough. I approached the Buddhist monk and asked for a portrait. He didn't seem to understand Swedish so I tried English. That didn't work either so I did the international sign for Can I Take Your Photo? and that worked fine. I then tried to get his name and that was equally tricky but I think he is called Phra. When we were done he thanked me in Swedish so he has picked up some of the language! The second portrait was obvious for two reasons. I really liked her wellies and it was the sensible thing to wear considering the weather. I didn't ask for her name but she was handing out information about Itrim, a weight loss and fitness chain. The third portrait shows Kjell Kronqvist. I have met him a few times. He is the chairman of the group of artists that holds the annual Art Promenade in Österhaninge. In a way he has already made an appearance on this blog, at least if you count the silly artwork that his wife made for this years promenade. If you missed it, check it out here.

The tattooed arm of the law

There was a strong police presence during the Haninge Day celebrations at Lake Rudan. Mostly because they wanted to meet the citizens. These two officers stood out a bit I think. The officer with the tattoo is nick named Tessan. Her bearded colleague answers to the name Ulf. Earlier this year I met their boss Max. And earlier this summer I met their colleagues Jacob and Åsa at another event.

The Zumba Instructor

This is Maria Hall from Tungelsta. I think it's safe to say that she is crazy about zumba. I noticed her performing during the Haninge Day celebrations on Saturday and took a few photos of that before asking her for a portrait. Maria has a full time job for the municipality, and a family, but still has time to work as a zumba instructor at the Haninge Fitness Studio. This summer she has also had zumba classes at the beach. And at several night clubs, which she told me was a bit different. Oh, and she will also take the zumba on the sea with a cruise ship this Autumn. No surprise then that dancing is one of her big hobbies. A few years ago Maria did a lot of Street Dance. It sure looks like zumba is a fun and effective way to stay fit.
