Moose in the mist

Cycling home along the bike path that follows the railway track on one side, and a couple of fields belonging to the Nedersta farm on the opposite side, the mist rolled in. Standing on one field close to the walkway was this moose which made for a good photo-op.

Mother moose and calves

Cycling home yesterday, I spotted a moose family on a field belonging to Nedersta gård. I shot this from the bike path, I didn't want to scare them away. The cow had her eyes on a man at the other side of the field.

I See You

From a distance I noticed a moose family, so I jumped off my bike and tried to walk a little closer without scaring away the wildlife, as they were enjoying some grass on a field. They obviously knew that I was coming so when I came around the bend they were already at a safe distance at the edge of the forest.

Moose Meeting

I met this moose at Nedersta yesterday. Enjoying a bit to eat in the green grass. It didn't seem to be to bothered by the nosy photographer.

September equinox

Höstdagjämningen took place yesterday. Also known as the September equinox. I stopped at the nature park Slätmossen in Handen for a few photos and a light lunch. I always shoot the view in the first photo because, you know, you have to really. After finishing my lunch I heard a noice so I looked around to see Mama Moose and her calf joining me in the park. Because I had decided to mostly shoot macro images I didn't have the zoom lens with me so I had to make do with the nifty fifty.

A Moose Meeting

Met a moose family in the forest yesterday. This cow and two calves. She eyed me for a while and when I tried to go a little closer her ears told me not to do that so I stopped, grabbed a few snaps and turned around. I got the photo thanks to a man out walking his dog near Slätmossen in Handen. He pointed me in the right direction, so thanks for that!

An apple a day...

I need to buy a larger camera bag so that I can bring the old canon with the zoom lens with me. This moose was thinking about eating a few apples at Fridhem when I spotted it yesterday.

Moose

I was planning for a short hike through the forest today. But as it was raining from a grey sky I cancelled. Here's what I was hoping to see. A moose meandering through the forest.

Are You Looking At Me?

There's plenty of wildlife to see in my neck of the woods. Here's proof. I was on my way to Västerhaninge on bicycle when I arrived at the railroad crossing at Nedersta. On the field stood this Moose. It was eating lunch and didn't seem to mind me or the two workers that walked towards it for a closer look. I managed to get eight shots, slowly walking closer and closer to the big animal. Then came a car from Stabergs Road. They stopped and took some photos and then the Moose decided that the photo shoot was over for this time. The rest of the photos can be seen in my Moose Encounter set.

Moose Encounter

I met a moose (Alces alces) today. I was on my bike and noticed the moose on a nearby field. He was heading for a garden with apple trees at Hammarbo. I took a few photos and a video. There's around 400 000 elks or älgar in Sweden. Every year 100 000 elks are shot during the hunting season which is now over. You can read more about hunting here. I don't hunt btw, I only shoot with my camera.

Elk Meeting

Elk (Alces alces) Hunting or Moose Hunting is a popular sport (or as the hunters call it wildlife conservation), in Sweden. This year some 90 000 elks will be shot. There will be 300 000 hunters sitting on their stools in the forests around the country starting this week in September. I don't hunt. I take pictures. I took this photo in a forest in Tungelsta on my way home. I saw the elk and had time to set up the camera for a few photos. If you want to learn more, the Hunting Association has info in english.
