Artwork in the Sickla lake. Along the popular beach promenade. Part of an art project back in 2022. Made by Agneta Segerfelt and Helena Ekenger. It wa supposed to be temporary but people liked it so much that the Nacka municipality wanted it to be a permanent feature.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story

I remember hearing a story about the cannonball on the wall at Stortorget, the main square in the old town. It was supposedly aimed at the Danish king Christian II. Also known as Kristian the tyrant in Swedish. This should have been a year after the Stockholm Bloodbath. So in 1521. The less exciting truth is a bit different. The cannonball was placed there by Carl Adolph Grevesmühl in 1795 when he had the building renovated.

Still Winter

The good news is that it was 0C for a couple of hours today. Been a month since i was that warm.The bad news is that the forecast promises more snow. I snapped this shot while walking home from the recycling station a while back. A lamp post by the stream in the park in Tungelsta. I have had zero interest in photography for the last two months. Might force myself to go for a walk tomorrow morning and hopefully find something worth photographing.

Takstol

Swedish word of the day. Takstol. New café and more under construction in Tungelsta, next to the Rocklösaån stream. Shot over a fence in the dark.

The Brick Church

The brick church in Tungelsta was built in 1973. The architect was Rolf Bergh. The two Mandorla shaped windows were designed by the architects' brother, the artist Tore Bergh. Back in the seventies there was a youth centre in the basement, and me and my friends used to hang there. The reason for that was a miniature slot car track. Before the church was built there was a greenhouse nursery here owned by the Pettersson family. Behind the church there's a burial ground. The first people to be laid to rest there was from that family.

That Old Tree

A December visit to the old tree. A monochrome version felt appropriate considering the lack of sunshine here this month.

Monochrome Monday

The forecast promised rain in the early afternoon, and they were right. I biked home in the rain, but before that I managed to walk up the Hammarbybacken ski hill again. This bench on the top of the hill is a favorite and I like all the gray tones here. If I had a say I would place another similar bench here facing the forest that you can see here.

Available seating

On my recent bike ride around Djurgården, photographing all the Autumn colors I also stopped at a little pier with a couple of metal benches. It was just me and this crow. Colorful Autumn scenes from the canal to come tomorrow.

The meeting

Mötet. The meeting. By Willy Gordon. At Östermalmstorg. The male part is the original sculpture, showing the naked man with his erected penis and a cut up animal on his shoulder. It dates back to 1974. The naked woman came years later, in 1988. By the same artist of course. Twenty years ago, someone cut off the penis on the male figure. Then, as the square was remodelled, the sculpture was removed. And now it is back. It was fun to see the kids climb the sculpture and the happy parents documenting it. The woman walking past the square smiling looked familiar but I could not place her at the time.

Vanishing Point

The Path of Seven Wells. One of my favorite places to photograph at Skogskyrkogården. Sju brunnars stig. The 888-meter-long path between Almhöjden and the Chapel of Resurrection. Snapped a few days ago on my way in to the city. Theme day. Vanishing Point.

Father&Son

Another visit to the cemetery in Solna. Norra Begravningsplatsen. To the left, Heinrich Berns. He had Berns Salong built back in the 1860s. Thirty years later, his son, Hugo, to the right here, changed the name to Berns Salonger as he owned two venues at that time. Berns Salonger is still there today at Berzelii park in Stockholm. I have spent many nights there, although that was a few decades ago now. So for good measure here is a photo of said establishment photographed a while back.

Alfa

Two photos from the Karolinska Institutet Science Park in Solna, showing the Alfa building. There are a few more buildings in this complex. All designed by the architects at SWECO. The second photo was a tricky panorama, shot with the 60mm lens. I stood up against a brick wall, snapping away.

Swedish word of the day

Övergångsställe. Pedestrian crossing. Drottninggatan/Mäster Samuelsgatan. The busiest pedestrian street in Sweden. Always.

Like a mirage

Som en hägring. By Lap-See Lam, a Stockholm based artist. "It represents a dreamy interpretation of the place's history and future. As a mirage carries a strong symbolism and reflects on urban transformation and how we perceive public space. It consists of several layers and dimensions that visually merge with the site's surroundings and its historical context, while at the same time inviting reflection on the passage of time and our relationship to the city". Located at Karl Otto Bonniers plats at Torsgatan, across the street from Bonniers konsthall.

Trick 'r Treat

Walking through the old town yesterday, looking for a fitting Halloween photo. Some photoshop here, but it is my photo, so my rules! I removed a bit of advertising and cleaned up the grey wall a bit.

Andréemonumentet

From one of my many visits this past Summer to the cemetery Norra begravningsplatsen in Solna. This is a monument to a balloon expedition that ended in tragedy. You can read up on it here. Oh, and I spotted Bea Uusma out shopping at Götgatsbacken just two days ago. She is a doctor, and author, who wrote the book about this expedition.

Ski jumping anyone?

In 1890 a ski jumping hill was constructed here at Fiskartorpet in the Nationalstadsparken at Norra Djurgården. It was nicknamed "självmördaren", the suicide hill. One reason for that was that you would land on or near the frozen lake, Laduviken. Fifteen years later, a bigger hill was built. The construction was deemed unsafe and around 1930 the current version was ready. Back then, huge crowds with up to 30 000 spectators would watch the ski jumping contests. Around 1980 it was left abandoned. A group of volunteers renovated the hill and there was a contest here some fifteen years ago. But this is how it looks today. Kinda sad. The buildings are used for conferences today, I think.

Filmhuset

Filmhuset at Gärdet in Stockholm. A movie theatre. Brutalism. Designed by Peter Celsing. Still kind of new when I visited for the first time with my classmates, maybe 1977. Can't remember the movie we watched, though. If you visit now you can check out Spartacus. Today you will also find The Swedish Film Institute here, as well as private companies, photographers and more.
