Dancing couple

I like this artwork at Landstingsparken. Dancing couple by Thomas Qvarsebo. There is an old military hospital on this property. Today it houses the local politicians at Region Stockholm. There is terrace here where locals used to sit and eat, chat and what have you, but it closed for the public earlier this Summer because of safety concerns.

A splashy artwork

Fun sculpture at an apartment building next to the stairs known as Fatburstrappan on Södermalm. Called Nana fontaine. Made by Niki de Saint Phalle.

Kottdjur

Another fun sculpure from my recent walk around the two lakes. This one is called kottdjur, cone animals. Made by Anna Fröman. Spotted along the very busy beach promenade at Sicklasjön in Nacka.

The Seven Daughters of Eve

Artwork in the Sickla lake. Along the popular beach promenade. Part of an art project back in 2022. Made by Agneta Segerfelt and Helena Ekenger. It wa supposed to be temporary but people liked it so much that the Nacka municipality wanted it to be a permanent feature.

The trobadour

Evert Taube down by the water at Riddarholmen, looking out over the bay. My parents and grandparents loved him. There is another sculpture of him at Järntorget in the old town. He lived nearby and is buried not far from here.

Je M'appelle Agneta

Walking through the King's Park two weeks or so after the end of the Cherry Blossom mania. Spotted Agneta standing in the big pond.

The relay runners

One of several sculptures outside The Olympic Stadion in Stockholm. Made by Carl Fagerberg back in the 1930s. He was an athlete and a sculptor.

What big eyes you have

Bank palace at Kungsträdgårdsgatan with a classy entrance. Sculpture made by the classicist Ivar Johansson, a member of De tolv. The Twelve.

The Frog

A sculpture at Björns Trädgård on Södermalm. Grodan. The Frog. La Grenouille. By Per Hasselberg. What can I say, the sculptor like young girls. I have photographed some of his work before and recently a relative to one of his young models left a comment on one of my photos. Bit of a sad story that. Different times.

August Strindberg

It was a cold Winter for August. So chilly that the city decided to protect him from the cold. Nice of them I think. Carl Eldh sculpture of the poet at the Stockholm City Hall Garden.

Kristallvertikalaccent

This large sculpture from the 1970s, placed in a fountain at Sergels Torg is hard to miss. The official name was to tricky to remember so it was nicknamed pinnen, the stick.

A few sculptures

While out on my recent bike ride around Royal Djurgården where I photographed the Autumn colors I also stopped for a few photos of artworks. Top photo shows the fifteen-year-old model Signe Larsson posing for the sculptor Per Hasselberg. They later married. Photographed at Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde. Not sure who made the naked guy posing on the second photo, you can find it at Tolvöresholmen at Nedre Manilla. If you look closely on the third photo, taken down by the water at Tolvöresholmen you can see that the poor woman is missing an arm and a hand. No clue why, will have to investigate.

The meeting

Mötet. The meeting. By Willy Gordon. At Östermalmstorg. The male part is the original sculpture, showing the naked man with his erected penis and a cut up animal on his shoulder. It dates back to 1974. The naked woman came years later, in 1988. By the same artist of course. Twenty years ago, someone cut off the penis on the male figure. Then, as the square was remodelled, the sculpture was removed. And now it is back. It was fun to see the kids climb the sculpture and the happy parents documenting it. The woman walking past the square smiling looked familiar but I could not place her at the time.

Sheet-metal

Out strolling at Hjorthagen. Or Norra Djurgårdsstaden which is the new name of this area. Lots of old industrial architecture to look at here. And new architecture as well, as there are many very modern apartment buildings here. But today I will show you this. Gasverkstorget. A new square near the old gasworks. Behind the sheet-metal artwork thingy, there are hidden electric power wires. Kinda cool. I believe this was designed by Staffan Sundström, an architect working for the city.

A monument over financial growth

A modern day Triumphal arch. Made from recycled materials. Part of the Summer exhibition along Strandvägen in Stockkholm.Fun with the warning on the backside, also. Made by the artist Finn Ahlgren.

Setting it up

A photographer setting up his softbox at the Ai Weiwei sculpture in front of Nationalmuseum at Blasieholmen in Stockholm. He had a model with him, but I did not wait for them to start shooting. You have seen photos of this sculpture before here on the blog. The building to the right on the other side of the water is the Royal Palace.

Banana art

Banana sculpture at Odengatan. Or maybe it is a fruit sculpture. Near the Stockholm Public Library. No idea who the artist is. Usually there's a sign with all the necessary info, but I failed to find it.

Fredad plats / Sanctuary

A memorial for the victims of the Drottninggatan terrorist attack eight years ago. Ebba Åkerlund, 11 Lena Wahlberg, 69 MaÏlys Dereymaeker, 31 Chris Bevington, 41 Marie Kide, 66. Made by the artist Ann-Sofi Sidén, and the architect Mats Fahlander.

A place to rest for a bit

Atriumgård by Fredrik Holmqvist. This piece was a project between schoolkids and the artist. Stood outside a school in Jordbro for many years. I was a student there long before that. The school is gone today, replaced with modern apartments. And the Atriumgård can be found in a nearby park. Photographed yesterday when I was out on a (slow), bike ride for the first time since the man flu hit. I managed 40 kilometers. Might try again today with a longer ride.
