Riding the electric bike

Last year the municipality invested in a number of electric bikes. They bought them from the bike shop that I use. If you work for the municipality you can use the bikes during the work day. That's what Åsa had done the other day when she and a colleague stopped for some refreshments at the cafe. I asked if it was fun riding the bikes. Not really was the answer, we can't recharge the bike battery so it was a sweaty ride...

Stone Wall

Funny how the mind works. As soon as I noticed the stone wall in Handen I thought about The Music of Chance. If you haven't already done so, read the novel by Paul Auster. Or if you are lazy, buy the DVD. When this work is finished there will be two stone walls here. One hundred meters long on both sides of the new walkway that will take you to and from the Port 73 mall. I tried my best to talk with the wall builder, but we couldn't understand each other I think he was from Eastern Europe somewhere.

Sergei The Dog

Out shooting some autumn scenes in Tungelsta a couple of days ago I noticed a family at a playground. They took no notice of me, but their dog saw me coming. He decided that I might be fun to play with, and had a go at biting my hands, so it was a good thing that I was wearing my new gloves. Meet Sergei The dog, not pug, thanks Malin and Mike.

Bird Migration

These birds are heading south for the winter. Shot this scene on a rainy day at Stav in Tungelsta. Whooper Swans and Canada Geese on a field. They stayed for two days before flying south. Update, it is Greylag Geese.

The Colors of Autumn

I was on the bike heading home when I noticed the splash of autumn color by the side of the bike path. A few trees between the Biofuel Power Plant and the indoor golf arena in Jordbro.

Badass Biker

This biker wanted my attention in Västerhaninge a while back. When he stopped for a chat I recognised him as The Volvo Vera guy, Björn Virving that I met and photographed for this blog four years ago. The motorcycle is a 1955 Matchless G80. Björn was on his way to the Motor-vehicle inspection site in Jordbro.

That Old Tree

I realised recently that I hadn't shown you the old tree for a while. So I yesterday I headed that way. And met these two guys. Bengt and Arne were busy putting together this model aircraft so I decided to stick around for a while to see what might happen. This was a brand new plane they told me. It costed around 2000 SEK. There was another plane in one of their cars and a bunch of tools. We used to fly model air-crafts when we were kids they told me. But nothing like this. After ten minutes of preparations it was time to play. I walked away a bit and was ready with the zoom lens to capture the first flight. Unfortunately the propeller wasn't correctly secured so the flight was very short! The guys had to walk back to the car to try and fix the problem so I never saw the thing fly.

A Day at the Beach

Boy was it warm today. At least for this part of the world. It was already 25C when I woke up. So there was really only one place to go. To the beach. This is Årsta Havsbad down by the Hårsfjärden bay. As per usual I arrived on my bicycle and it was a sweaty ride! If you would like to have a closer look at the panorama press here.

Two different organisations

Many organisations took the opportunity to inform the public about their work during Haninge Day. Here are two of them. On the top photo you can see the blood bus from the Swedish Blood Centre. I decided to have a look inside and that's where I found Pia. She was dressed in her scout uniform (the scouts were also informing about their activities during the celebrations). I asked if I could get a photo of her while she was donating her 4,5 decilitre blood and she was fine with that, as was the nurse Ingrid who was making sure that everything was working fine. To donate blood in Sweden you need to be healthy, have an ID card weigh over 50 kilo and be somewhere between 18 and 60 years old. Every year people in Sweden donate around 2 million litres of blood.

Second photo shows the smiling duo Jenny and Cassandra. Two members of the volunteer organisation Bilkåren. The English title is The Federation of Women's Motor Transport Corporation. One of 19 volunteer organisations in the Swedish defence force. Bilkåren dates back to 1939. That's when the first female volunteer ambulance drivers and truck drivers got involved in the defence force. Today they have around 6000 members. Jenny and Cassandra seemed to be a big hit with the local kids, if you look closely you can see one happy kid behind the wheel.

At the commuter station

Construction workers at Tungelsta commuter station this morning. Bigger photo. The railway line, Nynäsbanan between Västerhaninge and Nynäshamn has been closed for a few weeks this summer. Stone crushing machines are blasting the hill in the background to extract crude rock for a new road and make room for a second rail track. The platform at the station will be 240 meters long when the work is done here sometimes next year.

Well hello there, nice to smell you!
