Bridgework

I have previously shown you two new bridges being constructed along the rail-road line Nynäsbanan, between Västerhaninge and Tungelsta. This is the third. Situated at Krigslida and Håga. The last photo is from a corner of the Håga industrial park, where you can see the bridgework to the far right). The crossing (from where I shot the top photo), closed for traffic last autumn when the work started on this bridge. Back in November I had you guessing on a photo which turned out to be the Krigslida commuter station, and this bridge is only a few hundred meters from that platform. One neighbour (there is always one), has tried his best to stop the new bridge, but luckily for everyone else he failed.

A truck on the railtrack

I heard on the radio just now that there was no commuter trains running between Nynäshamn and Västerhaninge. This is probably one reason. A Volvo truck from Infranord at the Krigslida level crossing on the Nynäsbanan railtrack. I had to wait for several minutes as two of the workers tried to manually lift the barriers. There are lots of work going on here now as a new railtrack is being built between Tungelsta and Västerhaninge.

The Track Inspector

Meet the Track Inspector. Sven Andersson from Uppsala (130 km north from here). It's the ninth year he is inspecting these rail tracks at the industrial area in Jordbro. I noticed him as he was taking photos of the tracks, and I always stop and talk to any photographer I spot. Sven works for Jernhusen. A company that own a lot of rail tracks and many rail related properties around the country, like terminals and workshops. Sven also has his own company in the same line of business, and that was the reason for the photos he was taking. He told me a lot about his work and showed me some of the tools he uses, among them a tungspets. We talked a bit about Tungelsta, and he mentioned that he sometimes visits a flea market there. Not surprisingly, I have posted a photo from that flea market. Once every year Sven's family has a big flea market on their own in his dads old barn. It attracts a few hundred people. After this chat I took a bunch of photos of Sven and he took one of me.

Rail Enginering

A technician from WSP at the Krigslida commuter station. Probably doing some geometry ground analysis. Next year work will start on a second rail track here at Nynäsbanan, between Västerhaninge and Tungelsta. It's long over due. Bigger photo.

Steam Train Heading Home

The steam train at Krigslida. Bigger photo. Over the weekend the train from the Museum in Nynäshamn has been travelling back and forth between Nynäshamn and Stockholm on the railway line Nynäsbanan. Today I caught up with the train at krigslida. More photos from the last three years in my flickr set.

Full Steam Ahead

The steam train leaves Tungelsta and heads for Nynäshamn. There's a museum in the port city of Nynäshamn. A few times every year the museum arrange a couple of trips with their steam train. The ride goes to Stockholm and then back to Nynäshamn. More photos in my flickr set.

106 years later

The railroad track Nynäsbanan opened for traffic back in 1901. It's one track all the way between Västerhaninge and the port town of Nynäshamn. Now work has begun for a second track from Västerhaninge to Tungelsta, a five kilometer stretch. In Tungelsta that means a longer platform and a couple of new bridges. I will be following this work with my camera.

At The Railway Station

Today I'm showing you two variations of the the Tungelsta Commuter Station. From here you can choose to travel south, to the port city of Nynäshamn or head for the capitol Stockholm. Either way you will be there in around 30 minutes.
