LED Moose

Julälgarna
The illuminated moose are back at the King's garden. In the background you can just make out the statue of Karl XIII and two lions. The old King has been standing there since 1821, and the big square is named after him. All in all I think there are seven illuminated moose here and at nearby Nybroplan. They are very popular among locals, tourists, and pretty much everyone with a camera. Been here every Christmas/Winter period since 2014.

Space

Space Space
Two stories here. The highrise building here is one of five such buildings at Hötorget in Stockholm. They look similar, but had five different architects when they were built, and if you want to, you can read about them at Wikipedia.Second story. Space. Opening today at that high-rise. It will be the world’s largest gaming center, with over 400 gaming setups. Or, as they explain it themselves: Space is a digital culture center in the heart of Stockholm city. A physical meeting place for the digital generation. Our concept combines key ingredients of digital culture – gaming, music, content creation and digital knowhow, all under one roof. We offer an inclusive environment for people to connect, collaborate and create – enabling communities to thrive and explore new opportunities.

A sudden change in the weather

Winter Beach
Frost everywhere earlier in the week. I decided to stop by a favorite nature reserve that I have shown you many times before. Rudan. Two lakes, beaches, and a lot of forest, just a short walk from the commuter station in Handen. I stopped at four places and took the first winter-like photos of the season. It was ery slippery at the rocks so I fell and hurt myself both here and there. Anywho, this is a beach abstract that I shot at the sandy beach at the Lower Lake.

The Woodland Cemetery II

The Meditation Hill The Monument Hall
Back at the World Heritage Site, Skogskyrkogården. The Woodland Cemetery at Enskede. It used to be that I only biked past it, outside and along the 4 km long stone wall, on my way to or from Stockholm. But then in early September I decided to change that and ever since that day I always bike through the huge cemetery, nearly always stopping for a few shots. Today's photos were both taken from the same spot, only in opposite directions. Well, nearly. They show The Meditation Hill, Almhöjden, and the Monument Hall, on the other side of the Spegeldammen. If you you wanna go Ooh & Aah, check out my flickr album with as today, 108 photos from this amazing place designed 100 years ago by two 30 year old architects.

Drottninggatan

Övergångsställe The bag man A free sample Just checking Restaurant Polpette Drottninggatan Karamellaffären
This is Drottninggatan in Stockholm. Queen Street. A,(mostly), pedestrian street, always packed with people. It dates back nearly 400 years. A very popular tourist area with lots of interesting stores. I took a walk here a few days ago. I locked and parked my expensive e-bike outside The Ministry of the Environment, as there's always a guard or two outside that building. Drottninggatan is also the place where the deadly terrorist attack took place a couple of years ago.

Clue

Clue
Now and then something catches my eye at the legal graffiti wall in Farsta. This piece looked kinda familiar, and I think it is possible that I have seen a work by this "graffer" before somewhere else.

The Next Prime Minister

The Future Prime Minister
It has been a busy few weeks for Magdalena Andersson. She took over as leader of the Social Democratic Party two weeks ago, and have been in talks with other political parties since then. If those talks pan out in Magda's favor, she will be the first female Prime Minister in Sweden in a not too distant future, maybe even this coming week. I spotted her a couple of days ago as she was leaving City Hall at Kungsholmen.

Ho Ho Ho, Santa's Gotta Go

Ho Ho Ho, Santa's Gotta Go
That time of the year again. The display windows along the always busy pedestrian street Drottninggatan in Stockholm are filling up with very classy Christmas thingies. Like here at Buttericks where we can see Santa doing his business, and that toilet paper really looks quite expensive does it not?

A work in progress

A work in progress
For the last 25 years there has been a huge Christmas tree at Skeppsbron in Stockholm. This years version is still a work in progress. A tradition started by the late Jan Stenbeck and continued since his death by his daughter Christina. It is a constructed tree, made from severeal trees, but it still counts. The tree comes from the company Bergvik Skog. I photographed this as a panorama, so it is eight photos, shot with a 50mm lens,, using my full frame Canon, and then stitched together in Photoshop. I saw the two runners coming, and waited for them to run into a shot.

Sandsborgskapellet

Sandsborgskapellet
Across the road from the big cemetery Skogskyrkogården is another cemetery. It is called Sandsborgskyrkogården, and in reality it is today a part of the bigger cemetery. The headstone with the story that I showed you a couple of days ago was from there and this is the chapel at Sandsborg. Built in 1895 in Gothic Revival architecture after plans by the architect Valfrid Karlsson.

November Darkness

The Café
This is a new café in Tungelsta. It is called Med Mig. With Me. Unusual name. A dine-in café with no deliveries. The building has an interesting history. It was a church for a long time. After that, it became a gym. That only lasted a few years. It will be fun to see how long the café will be around. Snapped this on Sunday afternoon.

November Light

November Light
Cycling home from Stockholm on a sunny Autumn day I had to stop and photograph the afternoon light hitting the facade at this bistro in the Old Town, Gamla stan. Sure looked inviting. The building dates back to 1781. The adress is Kornhamnstorg, which means Grain Harbour Square in English.

Fabrikör Edvard Lagerstam

Fabrikör Edvard Lagerstam
A successful businessman, born in Norrköping. Lived at Lidingö in Stockholm, owned Prols fabrik, which is still around. Also, a decent bowling player, as he represented Sweden in a few games back in the day. A member of Par Bricole, (Det Lysande Sällskapet), which made him a Bricolist. A Bacchanalian order society. Other more famous Bricolists includes Carl Michael Bellman and King Gustav III. Married to Agnes, they had two sons, Kurt and Hans, who are both still alive. Inspired by Amy, a blogger in New Zealand, I decided to dig a little deeper after a photo walk around the Sandsborgs cemetery earlier in the week.

Kristallvertikalaccent

Kristallvertikalaccent
This sculpture at Sergels torg in Stockholm was debated for a long time. Edwin Öhrström won the contest as to what should be placed in the big fountain and his piece, the nearly 40 meter high Kristallvertikalaccent was finished in 1967. It was meant to be lit up from within, but that didn't happen until the mid 1990s! So for all that time it just looked like this, very gray and very dirty. These days it is equipped with LED lights and the colors change all the time, just not when I snapped my photo, obviously.

Oil-painting up a tree

Daniel Volle
So there I am, at the Kronobergs park at Kungsholmen in Stockholm when I spot an old oil painting up a tree. It did look weird, but also a bit familiar, and I remember seeing something similar at another park earlier in the year so I decided to investigate. Turned out to be a street art project by Daniel Volle. He bought the oil paintings years ago, then came up with the idea to add a line or two from popular Swedish artists, Laleh in this case. Daniel had a very famous dad. The music producer Denniz Pop who wrote songs for Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and many more so I'm guessing he grew up surrounded by music and musicians. Oh, and the line on the painting of the Sámi man says I'm just going to be myself.

Do you have any mushrooms?

Do you have any mushrooms? Football Shirts New mittens?
Hötorget. The haymarket in Stockholm, always a busy place where you can buy mushrooms, football shirts or maybe a new pair of mittens for the coming winter. Always to a very special price for you, my friend. Speaking of Winter, here is an interesting story. A century ago my great grandparents sold their produce at this square. To get here they either travelled on a horse carriage for a few hours, or if they were lucky they took the first train of the day to Stockholm. The only problem with that was that they first had to walk 10 kilometers in the snow to the train station in Handen, the end station back in the day. I know this thanks to a recording that an author made with my grandfather many years ago.

Moose in the mist

Moose in the mist
Cycling home along the bike path that follows the railway track on one side, and a couple of fields belonging to the Nedersta farm on the opposite side, the mist rolled in. Standing on one field close to the walkway was this moose which made for a good photo-op.

Glowing Street Art

Glowing
I always stop for a look at the legal graffiti wall at Farsta. It is next to the bike path so it is not too difficult. I noticed this glowing painting last week. And it was a good thing that I stopped because cycling home later that day another artist was busy painting a new artwork over this one. That is always the case and I kinda like it like that as there's always something new to see.

Burned out car

Burned out car
Just another day at Gryt in Haninge. Last time I paid attention to this bus stop was a few months ago when I hid here during a crazy rainfall back in the Summer. This time around, I just stopped for a photo of this stolen, dumped and torched car. Any bus driver that manages to stop here without any difficulties knows how to drive a bus.

Great Structured Mess

Westlunds Entreprenad Under Construction Fire in the hole
Earlier in the year I showed you a new clean fence at a construction site/residential area in Handen called Parkstråket. At the time I didnt know why the fence came up, but now I do. It is a 107 meter long jungle mural painted with animals and what have you as protection against the new apartment buildings that are now under construction as you can see here. Theme Day at City Daily Photo. Great Big Mess.
