Tyresö Church and a slideshow

Tyresö Kyrka
The Tyresö church dates back to when the Tyresö palace was built. It stood ready back in 1641 when Gabriel Oxenstierna was buried here. The building is a heritage building. It is situated a few hundred meters from the castle. If you have the time have a look at the slideshow with all the photos I took during my visit. Having trouble seeing the photos press here.

Notholmen

A little marina Fiskarbostaden Notholmen Bridge Café Notholmen
From the English garden at the Tyresö palace it's a short walk to the little islet known as Notholmen. The wooden bridge is a popular spot for fishing. On the islet itself you will find the very popular Café Notholmen. There's also a marina if you happen arrive via yacht or motorboat. And if you are of the sporty kind and get there kayaking, or on a bicycle you can spend the night at Fiskarboden which has twelve beds and a little kitchen. If you visit during the Summer weekend evenings there might be live music if you are lucky.

The park wardens cottage

Åliden
This is the park wardens cottage at Tyresö Palace. The property is known as Åliden. It can be found down by the water in the English park. It is a new addition, built by marquess Lagergren back in the 1920s in the style of an old French cottage for the Willix family that lived here.

Tyreslö Palace

The Palace
I visited Tyresö palace over the weekend. It's in the neighbouring municipality and the palace overlooks a very picturesque bay. The statesman Gabriel Gustafsson Oxenstierna inherited the land here in 1620 and had the castle built. Fredrik Magnus Piper added the English garden in 1770. The castle has changed owners a few times during the centuries. The last private owner was Claes Lagergren and his American wife Caroline, born Russell. The owner today is the Nordiska Museet and it is open for the public. I will show you more photos from the surroundings in the coming days.

Deck Chair Cruising

Deck Chair Cruising Norwegian Breakaway
Spotted the cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway in Nynäshamn yesterday. It's home port is in New York so it is a long way from home. Here are some facts about the ship. You have 17 restaurants to choose from. If you enjoy musicals, ( I don't), you can watch Rock of Ages aboard the ship. If you want to cool down after a hot day there's an ice bar where the temperature is always -8C. If you enjoy fireworks there's at least one on every cruise. And if you don't want to mingle with the riffraff, (and I know that you don't want to do that), book a suite high up where there's a private deck, gym, pool and what have you. How much does it all cost then I hear you ask? No idea, try here for some more info. I shot the photos with my new Canon 77D, using my new 70-300mm Canon zoom lens. First photo taken at 300mm. Second one is a panorama from nine photos. I snapped the photos from a parking lot a couple of hundred meters away from the ship while a friend was shopping for pain killers at the Sjötelegrafen shopping centre.

Hello Kitty

Hello Kitty
I have seen this woman walk by the cafe a few times this Summer. If I would have to guess I would say that she has a small collection of Hello Kitty handbags.

Midsummer

Midsummer
It was a very quiet affair this year. Just me and my brother. It rained off and on during the day. We ate a traditional Midsummer dinner and this was on the table. Didn't feel like celebrating with our mother on palliative care at Malmgården.

Wrapped bales

Wrapped Bales Country Life Hösilage
Feels a bit early for the hay harvest in mid-June, but it has been a strange year weatherwise, so why not. As seen near the old tree a week ago now.

How we roll

How to travel
As you probably know by now I have to stop and take a few photos of passing traffic every time I bike over the pedestrian bridge that crosses the ever busy Gudöbroleden in Handen.

Crossfit For Beginners

Crossfit for beginners
Several of the local gyms in Haninge have realised that it could be nice to workout outdoors in the fine Summer weather. I heard this group laugh and chat away as I made my way through the Eskilsparken the other day so I stopped for a photo.

Park Animals

A Popular Bench
I visited the official unveiling of a new sculpture group, Parkdjur,(Park Animals), at Åbyparken in Västerhaninge yesterday afternoon. It is one of the oldest parks here, it dates back to the 1950s when most of the land here was just a big forest. Fifteen sculptures can be seen and admired in the park, and they are all very good. Made by Anna Lindgren and Sofia Lagerkvist from the design group Front. They wanted the park to be filled once again by the animals that could be seen here before the park was built. The design group wants people to stop and relax in the park, instead of just walking through it. They hope that kids that sees the sculptures will want to stop there and play. If you are having problems seeing the photos in the slideshow press here to open the album at Flickr, it is well worth watching.

She's got one in the oven
A candid snap from earlier in the week. I was sitting at a table at my favorite cafe, Malmens konditori in Handen, chatting away with the usual suspects while taking photos of passers-by.

Annika Alm

Annika Alm Elephant Art Nyfiken Pojke
While sipping coffee with my buddy Hasse at the art gallery in Österhaninge, Galleri Kyrkskolan, over the weekend, the artist and sculptor Annika Alm were busy at the next table finishing her latest work of art. An African elephant. She has always been fascinated with the people, the wild animals and the landscape of eastern Africa. The last photo shows the sculpture "Nyfiken Pojke" "Curious Boy" that Annika made for this years art promenade at the gallery.

Cobra

Cobra
They drove past me in a roundabout in Handen yesterday and I noticed that they were heading for a nearby filling station, so I followed them there. It was father and son out driving in the homebuilt Cobra. There had been a few issues with the car so they hadn't been able to go to more than a couple of Cobra meets. But the car sounded great they drove off, and everyone that heard the car looked kinda impressed.

Det stora oväsendet

Det stora oväsendet
I visited the festival in the park in Handen on Saturday. Kulturparksfestivalen. Three stages with different types of music. These photos are from a concert with a band called Det stora oväsendet. They played at the Handen Museum. The band name would translate to The big noise. The members all have a long history in the Swedish music scene that goes back to the 1970s and the very political music from that era. One band was called Gudibrallan, God in your pants. Mikael Katzeff played in that band. They started playing together back in 1968. They had one big hit and the band played that song twice during this concert. They were anarchists that used a lot of humour in their music. The violinist and singer here, Ove Wahlqvist wrote a novel called Murder at the music cafe back in the 1970s. Lennart Fröderberg, the bass player cured himself from malignant melanoma. His idea is that cancer comes from Candida albicans and that you should let the cancer heal itself. Samuel Trygger is a poet, computer programmer and a rock musician. Patrik Strömdahl is an award winning sound technician. So between them they have several centuries of musical experience and it was fun to listen to them.

Maria Skaring

Maria Skaring Ståltrådskonst
Met the artist Maria Skaring at the art gallery, Galleri Kyrkskolan in Österhaninge yesterday. She showed me some of her metal rod art, also known as "luffarkonst". Luffare was the old Swedish name for a hobo, or a vagabond. And this is an art form that was started by vagabonds back in the day. Maria asked me if I was interested in buying a piece. I had a look at her work and told her that I might buy a piece if it featured a bicycle or perhaps a camera, and she promised to create something like that, so I guess I will have to buy that piece on my next visit! But then again I promised Maria to email her the photos of her work, and the portraits I took of her, both inside the gallery, and outside, in the garden, for free. And I also explained a few things about photography, so that she will be able to shoot decent portraits and macro images of flowers with her Nikon. So given all that, maybe she should give me that sculpture as a thank you next time we meet!

Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson
There was a big bike meet at Tyresö castle yesterday. It's within bicycle distance for me, so I was thinking about going, but in the end I decided to check out a local festival instead, but I also figured that I could probably get one or two motorcycle photos from the pedestrian bridge that crosses the Gudöbroleden, that some of the bikers would have to pass and this was one photo I took.

School's out forever

Studentexamen
Swedish word of the day. Studentexamen. The Fredrika Bremer secondary school students in Handen were in celebratory mood yesterday afternoon. If you wanted to ride on a truck you had to pay 800 SEK. One kid fell off a little later in the day. Police were called and one woman had heart problems. There were too many kids on one truck, and one woman passed out, lots of rumours on social media but I hope everyone is okay.

Boating on the North Sea

Boating on the North Sea Power boat Brigantine
It was a nice day for boating. The sailboat in the first photo calls Germany home. The power boat is local, not sure about the brig,(?) in the third photo, but that would be my favorite of the three. All three spotted from the Dalarö harbour.

A bit of jazz and soul music

Jazz Singer Tullhuset
We celebrated our national day today. I visited the seaside resort Dalarö with my brother and a friend. We stopped at Tullhuset down by the harbour. The building dates back to 1778. It is a listed building that back in the day was used as a customs office. Today you will find the tourist information center here, as well as popular restaurant. During our visit the singer Cecilia R. Ray was performing in the afternoon sunshine helped by the keyboard player Frank Rönningen.

Ronja

Ronja Melin
This is Ronja. I spotted her in Handen a while back. She was in a hurry, on her way to the amusement park Gröna Lund in Stockholm to catch a concert with Icona Pop. I asked if I could take a few portraits as I really liked her look. No no no was her quick response, before explaining that she was always very uncomfortable in front of the camera. But I don't give up that easy, so after a couple of minutes talk we were shooting and the photos came out just fine. Ronja comes from Dalarna, a province in central Sweden. Today she lives in Handen with her boyfriend and two cats. She is very passionate about fashion, music and dance. Another passion is Change and Development and she has just finished her master's degree. I emailed Ronja ten of the photos and we decided to meet again for more photos, and we did that shoot a couple of days ago. It was great fun, we took a walk around a lake and stopped here and there for photos. I have informed Ronja that she will be my photographic muse for the Summer and she seems fine with that. And she is no longer uncomfortable in front of the camera.

Sunset From The Observation Tower

Sunset Reflection Time To Go Home You and me Hans The archipelago
Together with two friends from my favorite cafe, Hasse and Jujja it was time for another hike to the new observation tower at Tornberget. This time to watch the sunset. It was another hot Summer day, but it had cooled down a bit as we made our way through the forest just after nine in the evening. It's a 25 minute walk to the new tower. No clouds in the sky so it wasn't the most colorful of sunsets, but it was still a memorable evening. After coffee and cake on the hill we walked up to the top of the tower and used camera and binoculars to check out the impressive view. On the first photo you can see a few familiar buildings from Handen, places that I have showed you a number of times, including the new high-rise Brf Blicken and the two newly renovated water towers.

Tbgstance Summer Intervention 2018

Apple Computer Inc.
The little beach at the Upper Lake at the Rudan nature reserve in Handen was a bit more crowded that usual today. The sweaty sunbathers had to compete with a lot of shiny cars that were parked on the grass. At least 27C today and I really felt the heat during my our long photowalk around the car meet Tbgstance Summer Intervention 2018.

Summer Me

Summer Selfie
One of the unwritten rules of photography. If you suddenly find yourself in a blooming canola field, you have to take a selfie. I took this one on my way home from the Stegsholm farm last week. For the Theme Day at CityDailyPhoto.
