Next to the art gallery

A fine apartment building in Österhaninge, next to the art gallery. Originally a school stood here. Built back in 1905, in use up until the mid 1980s. That building, known as Kyrkskolan was destroyed in a fire in 1993. Three years later, in 1996 this building took it's place. Today quite a few of the artists working in the nearby galley lives here.

Peekaboo!

Two photos from the garden at the art gallery in Österhaninge. It's from two weekends in June. The funny guys are my coffee drinking buddies Jujja and Hasse. The Peekaboo is part of this Summers art promenade. Made by Marie-Anne and Kjell Kronkvist.

Maria Skaring

Met the artist Maria Skaring at the art gallery, Galleri Kyrkskolan in Österhaninge yesterday. She showed me some of her metal rod art, also known as "luffarkonst". Luffare was the old Swedish name for a hobo, or a vagabond. And this is an art form that was started by vagabonds back in the day. Maria asked me if I was interested in buying a piece. I had a look at her work and told her that I might buy a piece if it featured a bicycle or perhaps a camera, and she promised to create something like that, so I guess I will have to buy that piece on my next visit! But then again I promised Maria to email her the photos of her work, and the portraits I took of her, both inside the gallery, and outside, in the garden, for free. And I also explained a few things about photography, so that she will be able to shoot decent portraits and macro images of flowers with her Nikon. So given all that, maybe she should give me that sculpture as a thank you next time we meet!

The pen is mightier than the sword

The annual Art Promenade, or Konststigen in Swedish, opened for the Summer last weekend. You can find the artworks in and around the garden at the Kyrkskolan Gallery in Österhaninge. The theme for the artists to work with this year was Peace. I missed the guided tour and opted for coffee and cake in the garden before I had a look at the different sculptures. This one was just next to the table were I was sitting. I had a leaflet with some of the artworks listed, but a few were missing so I'm not sure who made this. Therefore I have decided to call it The pen is mightier than the sword.

Pyramids in the cloud

Another artwork from the Art Promenade at Galleri Kyrkskolan in Österhaninge. By Anders Reuterswärd. No matter the theme Anders will always make one of his pyramids, however, as the theme this year was meetings, he decided to make two!

Collaborative Painting

The theme at this years Art promenade (Konststigen), at the Kyrkskolan gallery is Meetings. Marie-Anne Kronqvist invited anyone who wanted to participate in her artwork. When this collaborative painting is done 52 people will have helped create this work of art.

Careful careful...

...don't play near the well. If I dreamed many nights that I fell into and down, down towards the dark I couldn't breath. Close to panicking, then a deep breath of relief, it was just a dream.

Contemplating Mother

I have visited and photographed the annual Art Promenade at the gallery in Österhaninge for ten years now. The gallery is called Galleri Kyrkskolan. The theme this year is Dreams. Two of the artists had the same exact idea. Mother & Child. This sculpture that stands in the green garden next to the coffee tables was made by the well known sculptor Sam Westerholm.

When I visited the art gallery in Österhaninge one of the artists,Marianne Kopamees showed me her latest technique. Hot Wax Painting. Or Encaustic painting. Art with the help of a iron.

Coffee & cake in the gallery garden

I needed a few photos of triangles for the Theme Day tomorrow so I took the bike down to the art gallery in Österhaninge yesterday. Nice enough weather to have coffee and home-baked cake in the garden. It was actually a bit warmer than it looks here. Left the winter jacket at home, and rode my Steel Horse in a t-shirt and a sweater. On my way to the gallery I noticed a bird circling overhead, and using my Tamron at 300mm this was as close I could get of the Common Buzzard.

Friendship

The theme this year for the Art Promenade at the Kyrkskolan gallery in Österhaninge is Vänskap, Friendship. I got a friendly reminder to visit the promenade last week when I met the chairman of the artists at my favorite cafe, and a few days later I headed that way. Thirteen works of art can be found around the gallery and near the Medieval church. I think I managed to document most of them, and here they all are in a slideshow. Flickr has undergone some big changes so sometimes the slideshow will malfunction, if so just try it again.

The Four-Dimensional Paradise

It is paradisical to look through a complicated maze of spaces and at the same time see that there is something more behind it.

From the 2010 Art Promenade in Österhaninge that opened this past weekend at the Galleri Kyrkskolan. The theme this year is Paradise. I took a photo stroll in the summer weather as I do every year and then had coffee and cake in the garden with a few of the artists. If this style of art looks familiar, it's because I took a portrait of Anders posing with one of his paintings last summer. More art from the art promenade to follow during the summer.

A Concrete Handout

This little art object is made out of concrete. The hand that holds it belongs to the artist Marianne Kopamees who describes herself as an autodidact. I met her on Saturday in her studio at the gallery in Österhaninge. Marianne lives at Stora Lundby in Sorunda. We talked a bit about art and photography. Marianne's father and her uncle were both well known photographers. And how about this. Her closest neighbour in Stora Lundby is a windsurfer who enjoys photography. And if you have followed this blog for a while, you will know that I often try to find a connection between the people I meet. Artists at the Gallery

I visited the art gallery in Österhaninge on Saturday, Galleri Kyrkskolan that is located next to the Medieval Church. They have a Easter Exhibition at the gallery over the weekend, so if you live in the area you can visit today or on Monday. To show you some of the artwork I made a collage with a few photos from the artist studios, and a 360 panorama from the show room. The people you see here are Seija Swanberg, and Marie-Anne Kronqvist. There's also two paintings from Karen Nordsø Lundberg, and a sculpture from the show room. As I was talking to Marie-Anne she wanted me to have a look at a painting made by her son. For some reason it was hidden under a blanket (second photo). I thought it looked a bit Daliesque. The obviously talented artist is called Leonard Riem-Vis. That sounded a bit familiar, and when I googled his name I found one of my own posts from a few years ago! After chatting with all the artists and looking at their art I had coffee and cake in the garden. I asked one of the artists Annie Forsberg to snap a photo of me to show you that it was a warm day, despite the snow on the ground. Money

Money is nothing. Money is everything. Money isn't everything. Everything isn't money. Money can preserve nature and landscapes.Money can destroy nature and landscapes. I choose to refuse. Be grateful for the nature that still exists.

Karen Nordsø Lundberg


From the 2009 Art Promenade at the gallery in Österhaninge. This is my last photo from this years art promenade. I went back to the gallery over the weekend. I have previously met and photographed Karen, and when I talked to her on Sunday she wanted me to take a photo of one of her paintings in the show room, and mail that photo to her along with a version of the photo you see here which I have now done.

Does Money Make The World Go Round?

That's a good question. And as it happens Money is the the theme for this years Art Promenade at the gallery in Österhaninge. And with the economy as it is it's probably a good theme. For the fifth year running I have documented the promenade. So over the summer I will show you a photo every now and then. And this is the first one. The artist is Sylvia Sinel. Sylvia has set up a web site as her part of the project. It is called Alltförpengar, which translates to Everything For Money. Sylvia has also placed 100 coins all around the garden near the gallery. And as you can see I found one of the coins. On them you can read a question, on my coin it said, Now, what are you going to do. There are of course a few options. Take the coin with you. Leave it. Move it, or perhaps use it to buy a coffee at the gallery.

Anders Reuterswärd

Several art galleries around Haninge were open during the Easter Weekend, and I visited the Kyrkskolan Gallery in Österhaninge. This is one of the artists, Anders Reuterswärd. He had his first showing back in 1967. He is represented at the Moderna Museet as the famous art collector Pontus Hultén bought one of his paintings at that first show. Anders often works with fractal (repeating), triangles, and also with the central perspective. During his long career he has also worked with photography and made Super 8 mm film. As I was treated with coffee and cake in the garden, Anders and some of the other artists told me about one movie in which his father, the world famous artist Oscar Reuterswärd stars as a burglar who breaks into a house, and then leaves, climbing out through a window with a big bag slung over his shoulder. We used suggestive music, and it really was a fun project despite the fact that Oscar wanted it made one way and I wanted to do it my way, Anders explained. Everyone round the table agreed, as they had all seen the movie. You may have seen some of the other artists work on my blog, as I have photographed the last four Art Promenades.

Alexej Svetlov

At the Art Exhibition. This is Alexej Svetlov. He is originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia but lives in Sweden today. And from today, until the 5th of October you can see some of his artwork at the Kyrkskolan Gallery in Österhaninge. Alexej is into Visual arts and has also worked as an actor, and as a scenographer. I visited the exhibition this afternoon together with my flickr contact Kenny Lex who paid for the coffee, thanks for that Kenny!

Didgeridoo Player

There was music at the opening of the Art Promenade. As I walked around a DJ was playing and a group of people were dancing on the lawn in front of the gallery. Then when I sat down and talked to some of the artists this guy started to play on his didgeridoo.

The Gallery

Every summer the artists at the gallery in Österhaninge, Galleri Kyrkskolan, organizes an Art Promenade. The gallery is situated in a rural area, the next door neighbour is the old church and church school. I visited on the hottest day (so far) of the year. I was the only one visiting, and I had a chance to talk to one of the artists. The last couple of years the art promenade really was a promenade, you had to walk a few km's to see everything. This year the theme was Freedom and all objects are within a few minutes walk from the gallery. I will post a few objects from this year over the next week.
