Gotland Runt

Onlookers Spot the Giraffe Kastellholmen Gröna Lund Stockholm
I watched the start of the annual offshore race Gotland Runt a while back. It was a glorious Summer day. I figured that the best place to see the boats and take photos would be from high up, so I headed to Fjällgatan on Södermalm, famous for its views over the city, and as you can see on the top photo I was not the only one with that thought. Around 400 boats took part in the race, and it was a great spectacle to watch. Background on the second photo is Beckholmen with the old giraffe. Third photo with Skeppsholmen as a backdrop. In the fourth photo, you can see the amusement park Gröna Lund. In the last photo for today, we look back at Skeppsbrokajen and Gamla Stan. More yachts tomorrow.

That's a great boat show but if it is a honest race. I don't know.

This was the start of the race. They then sail through the archipelago, and then around the island of Gotland, before finishing at Sandhamn. That usually takes 48 hours.
