Last House Standing

Last House Standing
This old house near Nynäsvägen, at Tuvvägen in Handen, is surrounded by modern student apartments, built on a former soccer field. A new retirement home that opened last year. And two big housing cooperatives, Slätmossen and Valhall. Just behind the house there's a small hill with a mysterious runestone. Up until last week a small forest grew just to the left of the house. But now the builders are closing in and the old house will be gone sometime next week. I believe that the last owner made a small fortune as several companies wanted to buy the property. A year from now this area will have changed completely as a number of new apartment houses will be built here.

Sad to see the old traditional homes disappearing, but perhaps the new builds will be more comfortable for modern life. I imagine there are some areas where more effort is spent to maintain the old.

Nice shot but a very sad image.

It does look a little desolate here Steffe, almost like it knows it's days are numbered. It seems that there isn't anything we can do to stop 'progress'. It looks like it would have been rather a sweet little house in the past. All those memories ..gone!

It looks like a comfortable old house. Sorry to see that its days are numbered.

Sad to see... the place looks like one with character.

First, it is a very attractive picture, with very good composition and contrast. But it is also a meditation on impermanence.
