Lake Magelungen

I took a walk at Lake Magelungen with one of the usual suspects. It was a great Summer day, 26C from a blueish sky. You will find yourself both in Stockholm and Huddinge during the walk. We walked from Ågesta Broväg along the boardwalk, past a beach and an old Inn, an outdoor gym and then continued over the old military bridge to Farstanäset where I decided to photograph a bunch of houses, new and old.

Like a Diamond

Artwork by Jesper Nyrén on the facade at the new office building Sthlm 04 at Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm. The mural measures 18 x 25 meters.The building is part of a project by Skanska that is called Sthlm New Creative Business Spaces.

The Gravediggers Cottage

In October of 1832, around 1000 people at Södermalm in Stockholm died from cholera. The victims were buried at night at the Kolerakyrkogården at Skanstull. In total 3500 people died of the disease that year. Two decades later cholera killed another 2800 people here. This building from 1832 was known as the Dödgrävarboställe, the grave-diggers cottage. Today this is a little park.

Häringe

Three photos from a recent visit to the Häringe-Hammersta nature reserve. It is that place with the many oaks and the impressive view from the lookout point that I have shown you a few times. One of my favorite places in Haninge. The last photo shows Bobäcken, I snapped that photo from a little bridge. It is a great place for birdwatching.

Västerby

Three photos from Västerby in Nynäshamn. Here you see a few houses in the Summer green, a little cafe, popular with cyclists and bikers, and the old village hall where they brew the coffee and bake the cakes for the cafe. Shot while out on a bike ride a few days before buying the eBike.

Gazelle Ultimate

I know. But it looked so good. And I really wanted a new bike so I figured why not try an eBike? So that is what I did. This is a Gazelle Ultimate C8. Been out on three rides with it so far and I am happy to report that with this bike there are no more uphill climbs! The Bosch engine works great, the motor is silent, there are eight gears and no chain this is a belt driven bike. You have to pedal to get the motor running so it is still a real bicycle and there is a law in the EU that prevents anyone using a motor if you bike faster than 25 km/h. There is a way around that but I don't have any plans to test that just yet.

Windows & Balconies

A new housing area called Parkstråket in Handen. This was a little forest with a couple of unused Summer houses a few years ago. Today there are a number of big apartment buildings here, plus a brand new school.

Summer Cycling

I sometimes ride my bicycle to Nynäshamn. It usually takes 90 minutes with a couple of stops along the way as I have to photograph something. Normally I ride on the old Nynäsvägen road that follows the new motorway for most of the way. But you can also ride on the old gravel roads through small hamlets like here at Hemfosa. Cycling here is very relaxing. You ride on bumpy roads through forests and there are a couple of lakes if you feel the need to cool down with a swim. I walked around one of those lakes recently and I will show you a few photos in a day or thhree.

Henriksdal

Three photos from Henriksdal. A newish housing area at Sicklaön in Nacka that is part of Södra Hammarbyhamnen in Stockholm. I have to confess to never actually been there, yet. This is as close as I have come, but every time I see the new houses from a distance I feel an urge to check out the place. The architecture looks very interesting. I will have to ask the usual suspects if they are up for a visit.

A few minutes at a bridge

Cycling to a friends house for a Summer BBQ I stopped at the pedestrian bridge that crosses the busy Gudöbroleden in Handen. My preferred place for panning photos since a number of years. People often walk up to me asking what it is I am shooting and that always surprises me. This time it was a guy from a company inspecting the bridge. Are you hoping to shoot some accidents he asked. Not sure why any normal person would like to do that. So I explained it to him, no I shoot convertibles, old cars, unusual cars, tough guys on motorcycles, tough girls on motorcycles or just anyone who I find interesting. And on this day it was three white cars and a bunch of Harleys.

Oak Trees

A recent visit to the Häringe-Hammersta nature reserve means that I came back home with quite a few photos of the oaks in that area, and here are three of them just to prove my point. After snapping these very green pics, two at Hammersta and one at Häringe, I went for a walk in a cow pasture shooting macro photos, before continuing on my bike down to the water where I climbed up a hill and then walked along the coastline for a bit. It was a great Summer day.

Katsan

Katsan at Hammarby sjöstad. The headquarter for the 300 people that work at White Arkitekter. They were the architects behind the Quality Hotel Globe that I showed you earlier in the week.

Who broke the glass?

Three suspects attended the BBQ at Villa Blåmes last Sunday. No one is taking responsibility for this broken cognac glass. Was it the drinker himself? That would be me so of course not. And I also managed to drink up the cognac before whatever it was that happened, happened. Was it perhaps the grill master? He looks to have been too far away so he is probably in the clear. That leaves the man with the big feet on the dinner table. Did he do it? The guy that usually hides behind the cigar smoke? He swears his innocence. I guess we will never know what really happened that night.

The Thaiboat

Sweden's first sail-through restaurant. The Thaiboat at Norra Hammarbyhamnen at Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm. So if you are sailing through the canal here which many people do on a daily basis, and there is a longish queue you can order food via an app and pick up your order at the Thaiboat. Or you can do as the guests that you see here and just walk in and ask for a table. Sure looks inviting.

Quality Hotel Globe

That is the name of this hotel at Arenastaden at Johanneshov in Stockholm. It sits between two big stadiums, the Globe Arena and the Tele2 Arena. And also next to that arty smokestack in yesterdays post. The architects were White Arkitekter, and as it happened I snapped a photo of their office at Hammarby Sjöstad a while back and I might show it to you in a day or three, it is also a building with a lot of glass. Oh, and I should explain that this is a tricky building to photograph. I stood on a traffic island and shot this as a panorama so this is 15 photos stitched together.

The Girls

This is a forty-meter-high smokestack.You can find it next to the Quality Hotel Globe at Arenastaden in Stockholm. It used to be gray but thanks to Cilla Ramnek and 400 liters of yellow paint today it is a sculpture called Flickorna, The Girls.

Mind the frogs

A warning sign by the side of the road at the Hammersta nature reserve to mind the frogs. I minded the frogs, no injuries reported. They move from one place to another other during mating season in April and May so they are probably where they should be by now in a nearby pond.

Tantolunden

A few photos from Tantolunden, a very popular park in Stockholm. The four young guys were playing jazz for anyone who wanted to listen. The outdoor eating area at Debaser Strand seemed full and a few people were queuing for a table. The grassy areas at the park were filled with people enjoying the Summer weather. The fourth photo shows the French Boulebar. “Freya’s Mamma’s Kök” is a food truck for Mediterranean cuisine and especially Egyptian as classic Cairo street food. The people at the wooden benches enjoyed the street life and some street food.

That Old Tree

Finally. Summer.

Lumakranen

The old gantry crane at the former Luma industriområde, smack in the middle of Hammarby sjöstad where today 25 000 people live. The artist Anders Djerf decided that the crane was worth saving and people seemed to agree with him so here it is still today.

Canola Field

A blooming canola field at Alby in Österhaninge. Alby is an old village in a rural part of Haninge. I shot a few photos here for a book a number of years ago. It is a very picturesque place any time of the year.

When I Can Travel Again

It would be fun to travel somewhere by boat. But I don't mean a cruise that is not for me I'm talking about another visit to the Mediterranean where I might just jump on a ferry to some unknown island or hire a speed boat for a fun look at a new island. I snapped these four photos last Saturday while visiting Hammarby sjöstad in Stockholm. The ferry is called M/S Lotten and is one of a few free-of-charge ferries at Hammarby sjö.
