A bit of a mystery

Kornhamnstorg
This is Kornhamnstorg. A square in the old town, close to the water. Just across the street from where I sat down and photographed the passing cyclists a few times recently. I also noticed the construction of this outdoor seating area for a restaurant/café at the square, and as it was brand new, I snapped this photo. Then two days ago I noticed a few workers busy removing parts of it, which I found a bit strange as it was just a few weeks old. And then yesterday, it was gone. No clue why. I guess I need to investigate.

Who broke the glass?

Who broke the glass?
Three suspects attended the BBQ at Villa Blåmes last Sunday. No one is taking responsibility for this broken cognac glass. Was it the drinker himself? That would be me so of course not. And I also managed to drink up the cognac before whatever it was that happened, happened. Was it perhaps the grill master? He looks to have been too far away so he is probably in the clear. That leaves the man with the big feet on the dinner table. Did he do it? The guy that usually hides behind the cigar smoke? He swears his innocence. I guess we will never know what really happened that night.

Mystery Stone

Mystery Stone
One of six mystery stones at Sanda in Österhaninge. They have been there for a couple of centuries. No one knows who put them there, on a rock formation by the side of the old road, or why. You have to know where they are to find them.

Mystery Stone

Mystery Stone
One of six mystery stones at Sanda, a rural part of Österhaninge. Three conical stones and three round stones can be found on a little hill beside the road. This time of the year it is still possible to see the stones from the road, but they will soon be hidden behind all the greenery. Rumours have it that a King, (not clear which one), visited the Sanda Estate several times a few hundred years ago, and that he fathered a few bastards. Possibly six in all. Three boys and three girls.

Nine months later

Mystery Stone
Some people say it was Charles XV. Others think it could have been Frederick I. Both Kings were known to like the ladies if you know what I mean. Maybe they used the old phrase wanna come back to my castle for a bit of fun? I'm sure that line must have worked sometimes. And maybe it did when either of the Kings visited Sanda in Österhaninge. They might have stopped at the Sanda Estate, or maybe just spent the night at the Inn before continuing to one of the islands in the Haninge archipelago. Possibly to Sundby on the island of Ornö. Anyway, on a small hill next to the old Klockarlötsvägen road six stones can be found. Three round and three cone-shaped. They are said to be a memorial. The stones that are hidden most of the year behind all the green are called the Kungastenarna. The Kings Stones. Rumors have it that a few illegitimate children were born after the royal visit. True or not I don't know.

What's this then?

What's this then?
Jujja and the archaeologist Roger Wikell were at the cafe in Handen today. They had found this thing at a quarry in Farsta. Looks like some sort of scale. On the scale you can read 9500 9700 9900 and 10100. Bit of a mystery so far what has been used for.

Another Mystery

A bit of a mystery
The weird runstone at Ribby Allé in Västerhaninge. It appeared mysteriously on the grassy hill back in 2007. There are two inscriptions. Both written in the runic alphabet. Translated to English one of them reads. Each and every one of us stands alone on the heart of the earth. A mobile phone through the body like an arrow, suddenly the batteries dies out. So now you know that!

Mystery Tombstone

Mystery Tombstone
Vesterin 1824-1927. The most known Westerin (spelled with a W), was the teacher and sexton Gustav Adolf. He died in 1927, but he was born in 1862. He was adopted by the tailor Samuel August Westerin. The records show that his step-sister Ragnhild Svea Forsell should be buried here. She died in 1953. The last Taphophile Tragic.

Mystery Stone

Mystery Stone

This standing stone is a bit of a mystery. Located on top of a hill in Handen. At a first glance you might be a bit upset about the graffiti. A second, closer look will get you curious and a bit confused. If you look closely you will see the Olympic rings. My friend Jim who has translated all rune-stones in Haninge did have a go at this stone a few years ago. His translation shortened here reads something like this:This stone was raised by Oskar and his wife. It dates back to 1960. I wonder if Oskar and his wife are still around? Fifty years ago when they raised the stone the hill was surrounded by a forest. Today modern life has closed in a bit and there are apartment buildings on two sides.

The Coffee Mug Mystery

The Coffee Mug Mystery

The Traditional Way

When Henrik took over my favorite cafe, Malmens konditori he made a visit to IKEA where he purchased 150 or so coffee mugs. They are called Färgrik, (colorful), and cost 4 SEK each. Now, two years later 120 mugs are gone. Henrik has no idea where they are. I suggested they must have the worst dish washer in history working in the kitchen. My friend Jim had another idea. Something similar to the vanishing socks mystery. No one can remember dropping a mug, or seeing any guest walking away with one. Weird. We have been discussing this at the cafe lately while enjoying more Samla buns. The one you see here is served in the traditional way in a bowl of warm milk.

Mystery Stones (part 1)

Sanda Stone

The King Stones

The mysterious stones at Sanda in Österhaninge. These stones on a rock formation at Sanda are one big mystery. For centuries people have speculated about their origin. The only info I have was given to me by Sune Nilsson, a member of the local history association. In an article Harry Runqvist writes about a visit from an old king and that the stones are some memorial from that visit. That unknown king was a bit of a ladies man and rumours said that he had fathered a few children in the neighbourhood. There are more stones here. They look a bit different. I will post them tomorrow.
