Winter Minimalism

Snowstorm

Four snowstorm photos from a real Winter walk in Tungelsta last week. I had three different lenses with me, (fairly normal), but it was of course impossible to change lenses in this weather. The first three photos are from Skogs-Ekeby. The top photo shows a beautiful house along Södertäljevägen. The second photo shows a place called Sveaborg. The third photo shows what today is a Summerhouse, the little cottage dates back more than 300 years, it is known as Hagstugan. The last photo is an old stable at a property that once had a mill at Kvarnvägen, (Mill Road). When my mother was a young girl back in the 1940s her family used to go there to get cut up ice from the stream. That's when they had really cold Winters...

Ekeby Hage

Walking down Skolvägen at Skogs-Ekeby in Tungelsta as the snowing intensified. This is an area with many new houses. Among them seven new houses built by Mecon Bostad in a project called Ekeby Hage. They are very tiny, no more than 20 square meters! But there's a place to park your car and a storage area. And you get your own veranda, the house comes with large windows, very modern and energy-efficient. Might have to wait a few days before you can use the veranda again though. There are also a number of more normally-sized homes here and I'm not 100% sure which I managed to get in this photo. If you follow my link you can see an illustration of the area.

Mirror Mirror

Out walking again. It started to snow just as I left the house. No plowed roads or sidewalks on this day so it was a good workout. Had to be careful with the traffic on the snowy roads. This is a traffic mirror along Skogs-Ekebyvägen. I will show you a few snowstorm photos tomorrow.

Someone Has to Do It

it's a dirty job, but someone has to do it. Guy hiding behind the snow blower at the local Gulf filling station here in Tungelsta on a very snowy day earlier in the week.

To The Snowmobile!

Can you describe the vehicle? Yes, it was totally covered by the snow. And it did have two side mirrors.

Viking Runner

Nice day for a run. -10C and a blue sky. As seen along the walkway where we had that waterfall a while back.

Gone Skiing

It was -10C when I decided to go for a winter promenade on Sunday morning. The sky was blue and it was a very beautiful,(but cold), Winter day. Lots of people out skiing, walking and running. This ski track at Nedersta seems to be quite popular. Made by an happy amateur it goes across a couple of fields belonging to the Nedersta farm. During the Summer months the farmer Janne, (you have met him here on the blog a few years ago), don't want anyone out walking over the fields destroying his crops but this time of the year you can ski pretty much anywhere you like.

Winter Jogging

My plan was to walk over to the old tree for a photo but as I closed in on the Swedish Whitebeam I realised that there was too much snow on the path so I continued my Winter promenade along Mulstavägen and just a few seconds later this woman came running towards me. I took a few quick photos and I am really happy with the photo. I shouted to her that I liked her hat and that was that.

The Duck Feeder

As I'm typing this it is -10C from a clear blue sky. When I snapped this photo of the duck feeder at the park here in Tungelsta it was a little warmer, but not much. The birds were standing on the ice of the partly frozen Rocklösaån stream, probably waiting for the duck feeder to do her thing.

A Cold Winter Day

I don't think the famous author Ivar Lo-Johansson ever wrote a piece called that, but he could have as he lived in Tungelsta in his youth, and they really did have a few cold winters back then. He was at school with my grandfather, and in one of his autobiographies he recalls an arson incident involving my grandfathers adopted sister. Today you can find him on a lawn across the road from the local Coop store. Click here to see him in indifferent weather and outfits.

A Winter Walk

Snöslask

Not my favorite word of the day at all. Snöslask. This is Södertäljevägen in Tungelsta. I live just down the road. I did not use my bicycle on this day, earlier this week.

Cross-country skiing

Back at the Rudan nature reserve in Handen. I had heard that the local ski club, Jordbänningarna had opened the ski track so I knew that I could get a few snaps of happy skiers.

The Gym

A cold and windy day at the gym. If you use all the gym equipment found along the ring-road in Nynäshamn you would get a full workout. You can find them close to the water like this one, and also across the road up in the forest a bit more protected from the wind.

A message of hope

We are all in the same boat, it is going to be fine. A knitted message of hope seen along the picturesque Strandvägen road in Nynäshamn. Everyone that noticed it stopped for a closer look and a photo. It is most likely made by the 74-year-old Lilaclady Sibylla Nohrborg who is well known for her uplifting messages around Stockholm in recent years. I photographed another knitted message from Sibylla on my visit last Summer to the Snösätra Graffiti Wall of Fame.

The ring-road

A Winter promenade along the picturesque Strandvägen in Nynäshamn. The snow from last week gone, 5C, and quite windy. Locally known as the ring-road, or Ringvägen, the one-way road along the coast was constructed in time for the regatta at the 1912 Olympic Summer games. It is considered a very beautiful road and is very popular with locals as well as with visitng photographers from the neighbouring municipality!

Hoppetossa

What a difference a couple of days can do. This is not an archived photo. I shot this photo two days ago at Frejas holme at the harbor in Nynäshamn. It was a fine day. Perfect for a photo promenade. No snow left here at all. This is a playground called Hoppetossa. The name comes from the books by Astrid Lindgren about Pippi Långstrump where Hopetossa is a pirate ship.

The Ice Fishers

Ice fishing is not my cup of tea. At all. And it will never be. But these guys love it. As seen at the frozen Lower Lake at the Rudan nature reserve a couple of cold days ago.

Snow Tree

This can happen if there's a tree close to the snow cannon. As spotted at the Rudan nature reserve a couple of days ago. They use artificial snow here for the ski tracks. Now, a few days later it is 5C and raining, so maybe not so good for the skiers.

Different Ways

The walkway to the right is kept free from snow and ice during the Winter. So you can easily run and cycle there. The one to the left not so much. As seen at Hanveden yesterday.

That Old Tree

A Winter version of the old tree. Snapped a couple of days ago.

Behind the hedge

This building at Mulsta in Tungelsta, from 1893 was known as a Länsmansboställe, as was the building that stood here before it. For a few centuries many Vassals lived here. I pass by here a couple of times every week and have photographed the building many times before.

Warning Sign

Warning sign near Christina's place, I have a weird sense of humor so this makes me smile whenever I see it.

First semla of the year

The first semla of the year. I enjoyed it with my evening coffee. Not the best semla I have ever eaten, but still a semla of course. If you are unfamiliar with the hisory of this tasty pastry follow this link for a fun read.

Lillhammar

Flooding

It rained two days ago. That is never much fun after a snow fall so yesterday we saw a lot of flooding, and here are four photos to proove that. A waterfall along the walkway at Stav. A red sauna on an new island at Lillhammar. The last two photos are from the park in Tungelsta. All the water in these four photos ended up in the Rocklösaån stream that meander through Tungelsta.

Tilted

Sometimes when I am out of photography ideas I shoot Utulity Boxes. This is a parking lot on the Lillgården side at the commuter station in Tungelsta. Pretty sure that I have photographed this utility box before but maybe not with the snow covering the empry parking lot.

At the pop-up cafe

A cafe opened in the greenhouse in the park in Tungelsta in December of last year. It quickly became quite popular in these Corona times, at least on Saturdays and Sundays when it was open. Back then it was possible to sit outside in the unusually warm winter weather but with the recent snow fall that is no longer possible.

The Bike Rack

An over-snowed and unused bike rack at the commuter station in Tungelsta. In the background a building that today houses a pizzeria, an art store/gallery and a tattoo parlor. When I was a kid back in the 1970s it was a popular cafe where I often hanged with my friends, spending my allowance on the pinball machines while drinking soft drinks. It was also the local post office until all the post offices in Sweden were closed, and also the headquarters for the local political party Socialdemokraterna. Back then the building was painted gray. Today it has a new owner, the construction company Turbinen that are busy building row-houses and a new school on the other side of the railway station.
