Horizontal

Horizontal
As I always do I made a pit-stop at the Woodland Cemetery. Or Skogskyrkogården as we like to call it, in Enskede. There are a lot of benches with great views over the area here, and as I sat down on one of them I noticed this worker busy filling in the letters with black paint so I walked over for a photo. This sign is the first thing you see when you enter the cemetery from Sockenvägen and as this is a World Heritage Site every detail counts.

Professionals at work

Professionals at work
I visited the island of Skeppsholmen the other day. Lots of things to do and see there. Old buildings. Boats. Cafés. Museums, (and with a few artworks outside, so you don't even have to go in!). Anyway, I came upon this live installation. Figured it would make for a fun photo. The guy in the background seemed less impressed, and I heard him mumble something about being photographed. But the young girl, she looks like a true professional. Her pose here says, I can do this all day.

Someone Has to Do It

Winter fun
it's a dirty job, but someone has to do it. Guy hiding behind the snow blower at the local Gulf filling station here in Tungelsta on a very snowy day earlier in the week.

On the phone

On the phone
One of my ongoing photo projects are the two recently redesigned and very photogenic water towers in Handen. Always fun to shoot them from different angles. Here you see them as a backdrop to a new building currently under construction in the industrial park. The worker up on the roof was kind enough to pose for me without him knowing about it at first.

A Winter Workout

Winter Workout
Mateusz Tuszynski who works at Blomorado in Tungelsta keeping himself warm with the help of the snow blower. Heavy snowfall overnight so this is probably the best workout routine of the day if you have to be outdoors. Chaos everywhere today. Traffic at a standstill around Stockholm. Everyone completely surprised by the winter weather. More info in English at The Local.

Façade cleaning

façade cleaning
It is important to have a clean façade. And there are many different methods for doing that sort of thing. Spotted this guy in Handen yesterday just before I headed home to refurbish the kitchen with new work benches. And wouldn't you know it. As I moved one of the benches I hurt my back so now I can't move at all!

A Concrete Wall

A Concrete Wall STAV 1:38
The first building emerges at STAV 1:38 at Lillgården in Tungelsta. Haven't been able to find a name for this new area yet. Pre-school, row-houses and a retirement home here when they are done. A bit cold to work construction during the Winter is my guess.

Do you like heights and working outdoors?

The complete problem solver
If so, crane assembly is a job for you. The crane here will be 64 meters high. It is buried six meters under ground next to the Haninge mall. The counterweight weighs 17 tonnes. When the workers had come this far in the assembly of the giant crane the guy in orange helmet started shouting. It is the wrong number, we have the wrong part up here! So another guy ran past me to see if everything was as it should be, and it was. The crane will be used during the renovation of the old City Hall building in Handen. It will be turned into an apartment building, the view from the top of the building is amazing. You can see Stockholm, the archipelago, and all the forests of course. Press here to see the building in question. I took this photo a few days ago and I'm happy to report that the crane is now up and ready for work. Today is Theme Day at CityDailyPhoto. The theme is Worker.

At the building site

Power Tool Operator

Construction Site

I often stop and take photos at building sites. These two are from Poseidon's Square in Handen where 192 apartments are being constructed. I was out shooting with my friend Jim and as he tried to find a good place for a panoramic view I decided to zoom in on the power tool operator. I aimed the camera and waited for him to notice me and when he did I waved to him and he waved back.

The Rail Track Maintenance Equipment Operator

The Rail Track Maintenance Equipment Operator

Last winter I saw several derailed locomotives around Haninge. This time around the municipality is trying their best to avoid such problems. And as it was a warmish day (5C), it was the perfect time for such measures today. This guy was busy removing ice from the rail track at the Håga Industrial zone, where one locomotive got stuck back in March of last year. He told me that Greif Sweden was expecting a rail delivery this afternoon. And he was a bit mystified about the fact that locomotives no longer are equipped with snow ploughs.

Wasn't that a long title!

The Gravedigger

The Gravedigger

Walking past the cemetery at the Medieval church in Västerhaninge (where Sara works), I spotted a modern day gravedigger in action. Must be hard work. But probably a bit easier today with the help of a modern digger, compared to when the church was new 800 years ago!

How many men does it take...

How many men does it take...

...to fix whatever it is that this guy is doing. The answer is one. I spotted this guy yesterday. Looks like he is setting up a surveillance camera at Hanveden. Hanveden is a former borrow pit in Västerhaninge, turned into a sports ground. I have played a few soccer matches here and also competed for my school in track and field a few eons ago. There's also an ice hockey arena at Hanveden, and lots of trails for joggers in the forest here. I could be breaking the rules about the Skywatch idea here as I obviously should have taken this photo from below!
Skywatch Friday.

Geological Investigation

Geological Investigation

Out on a promenade in Tungelsta I noticed this technician from WSP the other day. Probably doing some geometry ground analysis. Next year work will start on a second rail track between Västerhaninge and Tungelsta and around here, at the intersection between Allévägen and Hammarbergsvägen, there will be a bridge over the railroad. Same(?) technician at the Krigslida commuter station back in February.

Roofing Around

Grinding Away

My great grandparents (on dad's side of the family) built the house some ninety five years ago. Bigger photo. Back then it was red. These days it's yellow. It's been that color for many years. With a red roof. A few years ago we had the house painted with a slightly different yellow. And the roof painted black. Now it's time to grind and paint again. Starting with the roof. Here you see two workers, Edek and Slawek (both from poland), normally they work at Blomorado but sometimes they get to other tasks as well.
