The green lung

Eskilsparken. The green lung in Handen. Popular with sunbathers during the Summer. This Winter, a good place to go sledding with the kids. When I stopped by there yesterday, it looked very icy. The second photo is just ice and snow, and a bench. Normally, you would walk down the grassy hill to meet up with your friends for a picnic. Try that today and chances are you would end up at the emergency room with a broken leg.

Walking the dog

A couple out walking their dog at Eskilsparken in Handen. They commented on the fact that I was aiming the camera into the fountain until they noticed the ice, and then I aimed the old Canon at them as they walked up the hill.

Lie of the day

A couple of Summers ago the municipality decided to stop mowing the lawns in Haninge. A great idea that received a lot of praise from everywhere. And I'm guessing, especially from all the busy bees and insects. This year sadly something went very wrong. I still see many of the signs, like here at the big park in Handen, but they have mowed everything.

Autumn in the park

I walked through the park in Handen a couple of days ago looking for scenes to photograph. After shooting the redesigned Coat of Arms made by the kids I decided to take a photo of this bench.

Haninge Coat of Arms

The Capercaillie and the Anchor can be seen on the official Haninge Coat of Arms. Symbolizing the forest,(we have a lot of that), and the sea,(we have a big archipelago). One of these symbols can also be seen on a few Viking Era runestones around Haninge. This updated and inclusive version can be seen at a playground at Eskilsparken in Handen. Most likely made by local school kids from a nearby school earlier this year.

Keeping your distance to stay safe at the Eskilsparken in Handen. We had three days with Summer-like weather this week. Snapped these photos on my way to the first BBQ of the year at Villa Blåmes.

Enjoying the sunshine. Two women chatting away at Eskilsparken earlier in the week. They were curious as to why I walked over and stood on the bench. I told them that I wanted a Spring blossom photo against a clear blue sky. I see, said one of them, they then continued to gossip about their male friend, the photographer that always photographed naked girls.

Great fun to watch all the competitors in the STHLM Mayhem Team of 4 fight it out at Eskilsparken. Organized by Crossfit Södertörn.

STHLM Mayhem

There was a Crossfit event at Eskilspaken in Handen this weekend. Fifty teams took part in the competition that was called STHLM Mayhem. Organized by a local gym Crossfit Södertörn. There were four members in each team, two men and two women. I stuck around for a while and was very impressed by how fit everyone seemed to be. More photos in my flickr set.

Eskilsparken

Two photos from Eskilsparken in Handen. The sculpture is called Fåglarna i Handen. The birds in Handen. Made by PYE Engström. I call the second photo, old geezer on a bench. Before this area was turned into a green park it was a busy gravel pit that also housed a cement factory and a lumber yard.

Summer Reading

The fine Summer weather continues. Spotted this woman sunbathing while enjoying a novel at the green park in Handen the other day.

Crossfit For Beginners

Several of the local gyms in Haninge have realised that it could be nice to workout outdoors in the fine Summer weather. I heard this group laugh and chat away as I made my way through the Eskilsparken the other day so I stopped for a photo.

Have a seat

There's an amphitheatre at the Eskilsparken in Handen. If you walk up to the top and aim your camera back down at the wooden seats this is the view that you would see. At least if you had a full frame camera and a 40mm lens. And thanks to Debra over at Utata you can also see the photo at the Front Page.

Artwork Details

I stopped at the Eskilsparken yesterday, wanted to see if the little tree-clad hillside in the park had any interesting Autumn colors for me to photograph. It hadn't, so I walked back to the sculpture group near the amphitheatre and that's where I took these three photos of some of the details on the artwork Fåglarna i Handen by PYE Engström.
