Down by the water

Four photos taken at Årsta brygga. A port near my favorite beach, from where you can take the ferry out to the archipelago. Or your own boat of course as you can see in these photos. This little port can be very busy this time of the year, but I arrived half an hour or so before the arrival of one of the bigger ferries, so it was quite calm. I stopped for a bite to eat and a quick look around. The car park was full. I saw a few people eating at the kiosk. A dad was showing his two sons how to operate the family boat. A few old-timers were chatting away. Someone arrived and asked where he could leave his luggage so that it would not be in the way for people arriving at the port. A couple waiting for the ferry noticed that I walked past a closed gate, so they decided to do that as well.

Next stop the archipelago

Well, maybe not for me, but for the people waiting at the ferry port Årsta brygga. M/S Waxholm from Waxholmsbolaget in traffic since 1983, and M/S Vindöga, in traffic since 1978, from Utö rederi.

Time for some contemplating while waiting for the ferry at Årsta brygga. Or maybe just taking a breather like I did.

Förtöjning

Swedish word of the day. Förtöjning. Mooring. The bollard used for the Silverpilen ferry at Årsta brygga. And a bonus. Finnish word of the day. Karhu means bear in Finnish. That's all I have. The motor boat was moored at Årsta brygga yesterday. Photos taken witn my newest lens the Sigma 50mm 1.4 DG HSM.

Väntkur

The ferry terminal Årsta Brygga in Haninge got a big makeover recently. This is the brand new and very impressive looking waiting area for the passengers waiting to board the ferry to Utö. Architect unknown.

Naval Ships

Took the fixie bike down to my favourite beach yesterday. 15C from a blueish sky. Happy to report that all the ice is gone from the Horsfjärden bay. Top photo shows the corvette HMS Visby. Photographed with my 70-200mm Canon lens with the help of the 1.4 Viltrox Extender. Snapped from the little marina at the Årsta Brygga. Second photo shows the minehunter HMS Kullen. A Landsort-class mine countermeasures vessel. Took that photo from a pier at the Årsta Havsbad beach. Both vessels are part of the 4th Naval Warfare Flotilla at the nearby Berga Navybase. I visited the base a few years ago when they had an open-house weekend.

While waiting for my friends to show up at the cafe we had picked for the day, I took a short bike ride down to the port at Årsta Brygga for a few snaps.

The Art of Waiting

I'm not very good at waiting, but it is something we all have to do every now and then. So while I waited for my friends to show up at the place that we had chosen for coffee today, at my favorite beach, Årsta Havsbad, I jumped on the bike again and headed down to the port that will take visitors to the archipelago. No ferry there when I arrived, but I noticed a few people that were waiting for the ferry, and I like to think that the people that stacked these stones and that bone so nicely did that while waiting for the ferry.

White Mischief

Great Summer day yesterday. I made a stop at the beach. It was crowded and for once I opted not to take any photos of the sunbathers. I sat down, enjoyed the sun and ate my lunch. The back in the saddle for the short ride to the ferry port, my timing was a bit off and no ferry could be seen but I did spot a few boats crossing the bay.

New Port

The new port at Årsta brygga in Haninge is under construction at the moment. The builder is E-Schakt Entreprenad AB. The new port will be bigger than the old port, and it will be easier for the ferries to visit. If you are heading to Utö, this is a good starting point. The Crime Preventers

I was having lunch at Årsta Brygga today when Sune Nilsson and one of his crime fighting buddy's showed up for an ice cream. They are always out patrolling the streets, looking to prevent crime. They hadn't spotted any bad guys today. I suggested that the criminals were on holiday.

Motor Torpedo Boat

Wanna go for a ride in a torpedo boat? You can if you want to. This Motor Torpedo Boat can take up to twelve people. It was built at Stockholms Örlogsvarv (dockyard), back in 1957, and was used in the Swedish navy until 1973. More facts about the ship here. I spotted the boat as I was sitting at the kiosk down at the Årsta pier today enjoying a cheeseburger.

Waxholm II

Waxholm II ready to depart from Årsta Brygga in Haninge. Next stop the island of Utö. There is a small beach here as you can see, but all the sunbathers are at Årsta Havsbad which is a 400
