Winter Biking Anyone?

Left or Right?
This photo is for William in Ottawa, and everyone else, of course. Just to show how a bike path can look here during the Winter period. I snapped this photo a couple of days ago at Hanveden. The path to the right is the one I use. The municipalities around Stockholm have decided to keep a route going North to South snow and ice free. So instead of sanding the bike path, they first remove the snow and ice, and then sprinkle the asphalt with a salt solution. They do all this with the same vehicle. The path to the left, (that will take you to the Jordbro industrial park), is obviously not part of that program.

Different Ways

Different Ways
The walkway to the right is kept free from snow and ice during the Winter. So you can easily run and cycle there. The one to the left, not so much. I took this photo which, is actually four photos stitched together, on my way home from the Rudan nature reserve earlier today. If you have a photographic memore of sorts you might remember that I snapped a very similar photo at this exact spot back in January.

A new tradition

A new tradition
Hundreds of cars are being torched at the moment all around Sweden. Mostly in the suburbs. It is a new tradition. Dating back a few years, usually the week before the schools open again. This one looks to have been stolen first, and the torched at Hanveden, from where many people get their drinking water, including the Coca-Cola plant. Article in English about it at The Local.

BMX Pump Track

BMX Pump Track Five Wooden Jumps
Someone has set up a BMX pump track with a number of jumps at Hanveden in Västerhaninge. I counted seven jumps, this being the largest one. I have updated the post with a collage showing the rest of the wooden jumps.

Milsten

Milsten
Swedish word of the day. Milsten. Milestone. A measuring system used from 1649 to the 1890s. You can find this milestone at Hanveden in Västerhaninge close to the Nynäsvägen. There are many milestones left in Haninge, especially on the road between Dalarö and Handen.

Frozen Execution Rock

Frozen Execution Rock
I have shown you this rock before, but as it looked a bit different on this visit, here it is again. Back when Sweden still was a barbaric country we used to execute people at this rock near Hanveden. The last person to die here was the farm worker Anders Gustav Pettersson, who brutally murdered his employer Hugo Fredrik Jaedren at the gates to the Näringsberg estate. That was back in 1855. When I passed the rock earlier in the week I noticed ice and decided to take a few photos.

How many men does it take...

How many men does it take...

...to fix whatever it is that this guy is doing. The answer is one. I spotted this guy yesterday. Looks like he is setting up a surveillance camera at Hanveden. Hanveden is a former borrow pit in Västerhaninge, turned into a sports ground. I have played a few soccer matches here and also competed for my school in track and field a few eons ago. There's also an ice hockey arena at Hanveden, and lots of trails for joggers in the forest here. I could be breaking the rules about the Skywatch idea here as I obviously should have taken this photo from below!
Skywatch Friday.
