Lifebuoy

Lifebuoy
March started with a warm (ish), day. It was around 8C when I jumped on the bike and pedaled down to Östnora. As the theme day over at CityDailyPhoto told us to shoot a mirror image I brought with me my lensball. Walking out on the big jetty I decided to shoot the Trygg-Hansa lifebuoy.

Low Autumn Sun

Low Autumn Sun Autumn at Östnora
Altocumulus Boats on the Bay Östnora
This is Östnora. This is a very familiar place to me. These days I don't come here very often, and when I do it is only to take photos. But growing up this was the beach everyone visited. During Summer break I would often take the beach bus to Östnora. The bus picked up kids at a few different places in Haninge and we then spent most of the day at the beach. That was back in the 1970s.

Blue Water Blue Sky

Blue Water Blue Sky
I took the bike down to Östnora on Friday. It was a fine day with a clear blue sky, although a bit too windy for my liking. This is a beach from my youth. There's a camping, a marina, a big grassy area, sandy beach and a few jetty's.

Östnora

Östnora Östnora Åmunsfjärden Jetty Horsfjärden Åmunsfjärden
A few images from Östnora. This was the beach I visited a lot as a kid and as a teenager. As kids, we took the bus here during the Summer break. Later in life, we had a few BBQ-evenings here as teenagers. There's a big marina here. And a popular camping site. The beach itself isn't all that much to see, but it is still popular with young families. The bay is Horsfjärden, made famous back during the cold war when the military chased "Russian Submarines" here. Another smaller bay is Åmunsfjärden.

Östnora

Jetty at Östnora Welcome to Östnora The old jetty The dirty beach
Östnora. As a kid this was the number one beach for all the locals. As a teenager this was a place you would visit for an alcohol induced evening with your friends on one of the cliffs, well on the cliff because there's only one. As a grown-up it has been the place to stay away from. Another fitting name would be bird poo beach. There's a very popular, (?), camping here. And a little marina. On my visit over the weekend people were already sitting outside their caravan/tents enjoying an early morning cup of coffee in the chilly weather. I took a walk along the beach and it looks like they are preparing to add more sand to the beach. I guess it is possible that it is a nicer place these days so I guess I will come back for a Summer visit later in the year.

Wobbly Pier

Wobbly Pier

The wobbly, and old pier at Östnora. Behind me is what I call Barbeque Hill. A great place for, you guessed it, a barbeque. Better view of the pier and sea. Bigger photo.

Farm House

Östnora

This newly renovated building is part of one of the old farms at Östnora. From here you can walk down to the sea, beach, camping and marina, in a few minutes. What you don't see here is the road that passes by only two meters from the fence. It's the dangerous, Road 73. Construction of the new road has started, and there will be a big bridge in the forest behind this farm, so the traffic will then be down to cyclists and tractors. There are many old farm houses in this area. Some of the gravel roads here dates back to the Viking era. There are also a hill fort overlooking the bay not far from here and I'm planning to climb up for a photo shoot soon.

Bigger photo.

View from a pier

In the mist

The view from the pier at Östnora in Haninge, you can just see two red buildings at the marina. Flickr has the hickups today so this is a photo I took on this day last year. The weather was pretty much the same, a little less foggy perhaps. Östnora is a 15 minute bike ride from where I live. When I was a kid on summer break, I often took the bus down to this beach with my friend Åke. We learned to swim here sort of, I'm a lousy swimmer. I guess it's safe to say that Fall or Autumn is here now. The temperature has dropped from 20 to 14 over the weekend.

Stepping back in time

Shot this one year ago. A man sunbathing on a pier at Östnora. We call it sensommarsol or late summer sun when the summer makes a late return! Expecting summer temperatures now. Starting tomorrow! So I may have to go down to this pier and have another look. Did I mention that summer is my favorite season?

Last days of summer...

For Sarah...

Weathered Wood

Another visit to a beach! This is Östnora in Haninge. There's a camping site, with a kiosk and miniature golf, a few wooden piers,( one with an old dive tower), a small hill, popular for barbeques. A Marina with lots of sailing boats, and a big grassy area where normally, this time of the year there would be hundreds of sunbathers. Not so on this visit, just after the rain. I took a few panorama photos and walked out on this pier and shot a few videos. You can see it on Vimeo if you like. This is one of the places that I visit quite often, and I always take a few photos. There's a bench on this pier where I normally sit for a while, but it was occupied by a couple of German tourists.

Calm Waters

Calm Waters

Calm waters at Östnora. From my first visit this year. A few people around, working on their boats. I walked around for 45 minutes. A few boats passed, I met one (1) person down by the water. Tested all the piers and rested on my favorite bench. My go back on Saturday, a friend will be down here working on his boat. PRESS HERE for a bigger photo.

missing lifebuoy

missing lifebuoy

Back at östnora for the first time this year. Took my usual promenade around the beach, marina, barbeque hill and more. And then testing all the piers. Here the lifebuoy was missing. But it is still a few month before anyone will go for a swim here so no need to worry!

Early morning at the marina

Sun Reflection

This is the Marina at Östnora (see my previous photo). Shot on an early summer morning last year, from one of the piers. I like reflection photos. And pictures of clouds, and of the Sea. Here, I got it all in one shot. This is the Baltic Sea. I normally take an early morning bicycle trip to Östnora (10-15 minutes) once every month for a photo promenade and then I always rest on a bench placed on one of the piers and from that bench you can see the beach and the Marina, so I often sit there and take a few photos like this one, before I head for home.

Soon...

Sky at pier

This is where I go for a swim or a tan or just a relaxing couple of hours in the summer time, weather permitting. It's an open beach a 15 minute bike ride from home. Called Östnora. I used to come here every day during the summers when I was a kid. These days I always go for a photo promenade and I always shoot this view. Standing on one of the wooden piers looking back at the beach. There's a camping site here and a Marina. That's about it, oh there is one kiosk and also a place where people often have a barbeque in the evenings. In other words It's a great place!
