Views from a hill

Waldermarsudde Saltsjöqvarns kaj Kvarnholmen Danviksbron Weylandthof Beckholmen Skeppsbron
I walked up a hill again. Been up there before a few times with my cameras, but not on this side of Fåfängan as far as I can remember. Top photo shows a Dutch barn at Waldemarsudde. Built by Carl Magnus Fris in 1784. Then we have two photos showing Saltsjöqvarn at Kvarnholmen in Nacka. Then one of two draw bridges at Danviken. In the background the cliff, the Globe Arena and parts of Hammarby sjöstad. Next, aiming the camera back at Royal Djurgården we see Weylandtska villan. At Alberget. From 1833. Built for Reinhold Henrik Weylandt. Hjalmar Gullberg lived there for a while. Sold at auction a decade ago because the family members could not agree on what to do with the property. At least one family member still lives there today. The asking price was just over 100 million SEK. Then an SL-ferry and a sailboat. Looked like a close call. Next Beckholmen with the amusement park Gröna Lund in the background. We finish with a classic Stockholm view. Skeppsbron in the old town. A view seen by every cruise ship tourist arriving to Stockholm. The towers are Riddarholmskyrkan. Stockholm City Hall. The German church and Storkyrken.

Miniature City

Miniature City
I walked up to the top of the ski hill Hammarbybacken again. Decided to take at least one snap that would work as a fake tilt-shift photo, and this is it. Ongoing construction of a colorful apartment building at Sickla in Nacka.

That Old Tree

That Old Tree
It has been a little too cold for my liking this last week. In the South of Sweden, in Småland they experienced -4C over night earlier this week which is Winter temperatures. When I made my way to the old tree two days ago it was maybe 14C. If you know the tree you will notice that it has lost another limb since my last visit. We had a storny day a few weeks ago with trees down everywhere, and I had a feeling the old tree might have taken a beating.

A moment of zen

Happy
There was a street party at Vattentorget. For three days. I was there on the Saturday. I walked around waiting for the party to get going, but nothing happened. So I left and checked out another place where I knew that something would happen. And then on my way home, I checked in on the street party again. Still nothing, but then I spotted this woman and I knew that a photo of her would make my day, so I took it and that was that. Oh, and Kirstie from Chicago gave me the title.

The meeting

Meeting Meeting
Mötet. The meeting. By Willy Gordon. At Östermalmstorg. The male part is the original sculpture, showing the naked man with his erected penis and a cut up animal on his shoulder. It dates back to 1974. The naked woman came years later, in 1988. By the same artist of course. Twenty years ago, someone cut off the penis on the male figure. Then, as the square was remodelled, the sculpture was removed. And now it is back. It was fun to see the kids climb the sculpture and the happy parents documenting it. The woman walking past the square smiling looked familiar but I could not place her at the time.

Nine photos from a cow pasture

Cow Pasture Cow Pasture Cow Pasture Cow Pasture Cow Pasture Cow Pasture Cow Pasture Cow Pasture Cow Pasture
Cycling past the cow pasture at Lännaviken in Huddinge, at Lake Drevviken, I noticed that the cattle were back at their barn, so I decided to walk in to the pasture as it is also a nature reserve. There is a note on the gate informing visitors about how to behave, and also a phone number if there's an issue with the cows. But on my visit yesterday, it was just me there. I had to mind my step, but managed to not walk in any spilling. You have a good view over the lake to Norrby, where my BBQ buddy Hans lives. Closer to the water, all I could see was the two-meter-high common reed. I figured it would look nice in B&W.

Waiting for the King & Queen

Waiting for the King & Queen
I was stopped by armed police as I tried to bike my way through Skeppsbrokajen at the Royal Palace. It was the day of the opening of the Riksdag and the King and Queen left the Palace in the old horse-drawn carriage for the very short ride to the Parliament House at Helgeandsholmen. So I figured I could stay and take a few photos for a Royal Collage.

Norra Begravningsplatsen

Cross Gjutjärnsstaket At the cemetery Norra Begravningsplatsen
One of my newer rules, if I am going to visit Hagaparken, I always ride through Norra Begravningsplatsen to get there. And I will usually stop for a few photo while at the cemetery.

A moment in time

Traffic Moment
While walking over the bridge at Malmskillnadsgatan I heard a car horn, then another, then a third. Just your normal traffic chaos in Stockholm. I often sit on my bike down there waiting for a green light.

Birger Jarls Bazaar

Birger Jarls basar
Birger Jarls basar. From 1884. One of the first buildings to be constructed along the then brand-new street, Birger Jarlsgatan. One of the first office buildings in Stockholm. It also housed a bazaar and several artist studios. August Strindberg had his first exhibition here. The architect was Ernst Haegglund. If he came back today for a look, chances are that he would not recognize the facade. Today owned by Hufvudstaden.

Ghost Bike

Ghost Bike
Cycling along Norrtullsgatan after a visit to Hagaparken a while back I spotted this red-painted bike. I guess it is a ghost bike, although they are usually white. I have not been able to find out what might have happened here, or when.

Watering the Flowers

Vattenslang Summer flowers Årstaviken
The wooden bridge along the very popular Årstaviken bay promenade at Södermalm. The long walk is around 8 kilometres. I usually bike around this part of it as it is too crowded with people walking, running, eating, sunbathing and more. This was in the mid-afternoon and still a lot of people out and about, although I managed to take these photo without interference.

Carl Helge Julius Palmcrantz

Carl Helge Julius Palmcrantz
The inventor of the Swedish machine gun. He also came up with the idea of an energy saving bicycle back in the day. No money from the bike, sadly, but the machine gun made him a wealthy man. He died young at the age of 38. From a recent walk at the Norra Begravningsplatsen cemetery in Solna.

The Royal Swedish Cavalry Band

The Changing of the Guard The Changing of the Guard The Changing of the Guard The Changing of the Guard
I was walking through the King's Park when I heard the walking band turning into Kungsträdgårdsgatan so I headed that way. Always fun to see The Royal Guard on their way to the Palace. The musicians are Livgardets dragonmusikkår. In English The Royal Swedish Cavalry Band. Hear them play here. Oh, and especially for Rob from Strasbourg Daily Photo.

Motorcycle of the day

Motorcycle of the day Kulspruta Skull Motorcycle Shiny helmet
Quite a few bikers at the Vegabaren car meet. This motorcycle was a bit special with all the skulls and of course the machine gun! The owner looked very pleased with all the attention. Oh, and by chance just a day later I was walking through the Norra Begravningsplatsen cemetery in Solna when I spotted a gravestone where the inventor of the Swedish machine gun rested. Might show you a few photos from that walk in a few days time.

A second look at the Vegabaren car meet. I like the humour in the first photo, joking with Greta Thunberg, who is currently being targeted by the Israelis again.
