Spotify HQ

Unlucky number
Walking past Spotify HQ at Regeringsgatan, (Government street), in Stockholm. Known as Urban Escape, a very modern office building, designed by White Arkitekter. The street is one of the oldest in the city, just over a kilometer long. It starts at the Royal Palace.

It is just a facade

Just a facade
I took a walk at a newly redeveloped area in Haninge two days ago. Brandbergen. A place with a bad reputation. This new apartment building looks kinda nice though. A few more snaps from here to come, stay tuned.

Old Town Facades

Axel Oxenstiernas palats The runestone building
Two photos from my recent walk around the old town. Top photo shows Axel Oxenstiernas palace from 1653. Designed by the architect Jean de la Vallée. Located just one hundred meters from the Royal Palace. Second photo shows what is known as the Runestone building, named so because a few hundred years ago a runestone was found to have been used in the construction of the building that is located at Kåkbrinken at Stortorget. I am yet to photograph the runestone, but press here to see it.

Tavastgatan

Tavastgatan
A pink apartment building at Tavastgatan, (one of the oldest streets in the city), on Södermalm. With fine architecture from around 1890. Designed by the two architects F.O. Lindström and Karl Smith. A two-room apartment here will set you back 5 195 000 SEK. Sold in February of this year. This is just a short walk from two of the best lookout points in all of Stockholm, and also just around the corner from the busy Hornsgatan street, so location, location, location.

What are standard window sizes?

Scandic Facade
That is the question of the day. Two photos of the facade of the Scandic Continental Hotel at Klarabergsgatan/Vasagatan in Stockholm. Shot on two different days from two different places. The hotel was designed by a Danish architect, from the firm 3XN. It replaced a previous hotel from the 1960s. The Continental has three roof terraces, one of which is open to the public.

Strategic Architecture

Strategic Architecture
Kungsbrohuset. Västra Järnvägsgatan. This building from 2010 is famous for its two facades. Both made of glass. Which saves a lot of energy. Designed by Kerstin Heijde from Strategisk Arkitektur.

Söders Hantverkshus

Söders Hantverkshus
I used to work in this building at Renstiernas gata on Södermalm. For quite a few years. At a small industrial company on the third floor. It was many years ago. A very famous guitar maker, Georg Bolin, had his workshop next door, and you would often see famous musicians coming and going. Bolin also worked at a school that was based in this building for something like sixty years. It was called Carl Malmstensskolan. My boss had a bit of a crush on the woman who owned and ran the restaurant where we had lunch every day, two stairs down. She was also a singer in a successful group at the time. One afternoon as I left work, I walked past a bus stop when a horrible accident occurred. A bus hit and ran over the famous guitar maker. That was quite the story at the restaurant for the next few days. I was reminded by this as I walked down the stairs here a couple of days ago.

Glashuset

Glass Facade Glashuset
Only looking at the top photo you would say, that this must be a modern building with that cool glass facade, right? Then, seeing the second photo, you would ask yourself, hey, what is going on here? This building is interesting, as they say. A 44-room hotel at Wollmar Yxkullsgatan, near Mariatorget on Södermalm. The building permit alone took thirteen years. It is an old building, but with a new facade. The bar at the hotel claim that the flooring is 1 900 000 000-year-old, give or take. The owner, Per Hellsten now have five hotels in Stockholm. All in old buildings, and all said to have unique rooms. Designed by the architects Fredric Benesch and Katarina Lundeberg. If you would like to see more, check out their web site.

It's all just a facade

Facade Cederhusen Brutalism Brutalism KI Norra Tornen
I have several Superpowers, most of them secret, so I can't really talk about them. But I am also pretty good at climbing, I mean photographing, facades, and here are a few recent examples from around Stockholm. Theme Day. My Superpower.

Brutalism

Brutalism
This is Tornet. The Tower. It is an 18-story-high rise, currently under construction at the Brandbergen mall in Haninge. Last time I was here, there were no balconies, so I guess that counts as progress! In total, there will be six new buildings here with around 400 apartments. The architect firm is Urban Couture.

Facade

Facade
Testing the Viltrox C-AF 2x Magnification Teleconverter Extender with the new Canon zoom lens. Shot this handheld at 400mm. The building is one of the uglier in Haninge. It is a huge office building called Rudsjöterrassen that houses everything from a school to a hotel. It sits just meters from the commuter station in Handen, and the very popular Rudan nature reserve. I took the photo standing half way up the equally ugly spiral.

The dark side of minimalism

Adventsljusstake
Windows at the newly redesigned Najaden building at Rudsjöterrassen on Sunday afternoon. One or two rooms were lit up and I noticed a few people in one office, but most of the lights were out so when I spotted this "adventsljusstake" in one window I knew that I ha to get a shot of that.
