Up in Smoke

Up in Smoke

But not the Cheech and Chong version.

Quit smoking before you will go up in smoke. That's the name of this piece. Made by the artist Bengt Hurtig. From the 2009 Art Promenade in Österhaninge. The theme this year is Money. I was a smoker myself for many years. Started smoking when I was eleven years old. Decided to give it up when I was thirty and haven't touched a cigarette since. I wonder how much money I have lost to smoking and how much I have saved since quitting.

I agree...quit, I did too, and feel good being in control.
I love the purple flowers, the chair, the message.

Very interesting artistic endeavor. Do you think it changes anyone's behavior?

I haven't smoked cigarettes in many years...but still indulge in a pipe once in awhile...

I've read where nicotine is considered more addictive than cocaine!

It looks as if the chair has been smoking for some time.

Very artistic photo with the antique chair surrounded by fabulous wild flowers! Glad you gave up cigs, Steffe Meister!

Both my wife and I are ex-smokers. Nice to know you're going to be around a bit longer now.

bonne idée cette création. Personnellement j'ai jamais fumé et j'en suis content ayant des problèmes de gorges. Et puis avec toutes ces économies, j'ai pu m'acheter un bel APN ;o))
good idea this creation. Personally I have never smoked and I am happy with it having problems of throats. And then with all these savings, I could buy myself a nice APN ;o))

A friend of mine, who is quite an accountant, says that his annual holidays are paid with the money saved quitting smoking (1 pack a day = 4 Euros x 365).

Smoking for a year makes a huge difference on your life at the end of the string. From COPD to heart disease, it is a deadly habit. I am a living example of that and on oxygen most of the time.

I gave it up years ago and tried to figure out the savings. Amazing!

I'm 64, never smoked and so I should be rich; what went wrong?

Great photo by the way.

Wow, congratulations on your decision and determination to quit. Giving up habits like that are MORE than hard to do, and I love hearing success stories. It means it's possible!

This is a great piece of art, too.

Nice piece of art. I don't smoke - all my money over the years has been invested in cake ;-)
