Bay Side

The Silver Arrow

4 In a Row

I spent one hour down at the ferry pier at Årsta Havsbad at the Hårsfjärden Bay on Wednesday. Relaxing in the sunshine near the kiosk as I was taking photos of boats out on the bay. I also aimed the camera at a few tourists waiting for the Silverpilen ferry to arrive to the pier. The boat will take them out to the archipelago and the Utö island. Årsta Havsbad dates back to 1929. It was built as a summer resort for workers after an idea from the architect Sven Wallander. Seven hundred small wooden houses were built along with a hotel (it burned down in 1970), and a number of stores, including a butcher and a hair dresser. Today it looks a bit different as many people live here year round. Despite that all the stores are gone, except for a pizza place and a small convenient store at the square. If you recognise the name, it's because this is where you will find my favorite beach and I have shown you a number of photos from here over the last three years. Here is a link to a beach panorama I shot last month.

You just can't imagine how much this area looks like northern Minnesota which is probably why so many
Swedes gravitated to that area...

At first, I was just shocked...I thought, wow, that is a beautiful boat...but no pretty girls...

Then I saw the second photo. Phew! You have redeemed yourself and maintained your reputation.

Nice going!

Can I assume the first photo is of a passenger ferry? I don't think I need help with the second photo. ;-)

I have heard that before Jacob. That's right Don and Krise. The ferry has room for 200 passengers and they serve decent food. And there's a ticket which include lunch at Utö, or if you are like me a bicycle!

Here is a closer look at the ferry:

Tack-sharp second photo Steffe. I'm going to invest in a D90 soon and try to do the same!

Appears like you are having a beautiful summer, weather-wise.

That is certainly the way to move about. Great boat for it. And everyone looks like they are having a fun time.

I still can't get over the Sara, the priest. Are you SURE she's a priest?

What a beautiful day to enjoy a ferry ride! I used to love riding the ferry when I was a kid. We had one near where I grew up.

It's been a weird summer weather wise. Cold and rainy, then very warm. Then rain for what felt like two weeks and then warm and sunny again.

Your summer is surely better than in the rest of Europe...
