Indoor Arena

New indoor arena, Åbyhallen, plus a new school for 500 students, Åbyskolan, are under construction at Bokstigen/Åbyplan in Västerhaninge. Second photo shows a section of the roof of the indoor arena. Both buildings will have a Moss-Sedum green roof. The builder is Fastec. You will be able to play volleyball, basketball, handball and floorball, here as well as enjoying a cup of coffee.

Fun bit of architecture at the new preschool building at Ringvägen in Västerhaninge. Shot this yesterday, and despite it being Sunday the builders were busy working on the building.

The things we do for a photo. I had to walk over the newly ploughed field at Jursta to get this photo. Had to clean my boots after that effort.

The Magnificent Tree

Two photos of the magnificent tree. Taken just a few days apart. The tree used to stand next to a two Century old barn at the Nödesta farm, but a lot of snow and neglect helped that barn to collapse a few cold Winters ago.

Off the beaten track

Ormsta. A bit off the beaten track. I could easily see myself living here. The road actually ends here. If you want to continue past the tiny hamlet you will have to do that by foot or bicycle, which is what I often do when I'm in the area.

Runestone Sculpture

The unusual runestone/sculpture at Ribby Allé in Västerhaninge. It appeared mysteriously on the hill back in 2007. There are two inscriptions on the sculpture. Written in the runic alphabet. Translated to English one of them reads. Each and every one of us stands alone on the heart of the earth. A mobile phone through the body like an arrow, suddenly the batteries dies out. At the time no one knew who made it or what it all meant. Today I know the name of the the sculptor, it was made by the artist Torkel Dahlstedt.

Solberga

You can't really see it behind the Autumn colors, but this is the former vicarage at Solberga in Österhaninge. Built back in 1764. The Swedish entertainer Björn Skifs lives here today.

The Glass House

I attended the opening ceremony for the rebuilt commuter station in Tungelsta last year. There were a few speeches, the new glass house was mentioned a few times. We were treated to free cake and as usual it all ended with the ribbon cutting. Since that day there has been flooding in the tunnel, and also some window smashing. Not sure that this is how the architect wanted it to look but you never know.

Walking By

People watching from the cafe, Malmens konditori in Handen is always fun. Taking photographs of passers-by is also fun. These combined snaps are from August when it was still warm enough to sit outside.

Autumn Colors

Autumn is here. And with Autumn came the strong winds. And a bit of rain. Not my favorite weather at all. These trees stand on a lawn along Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge.

Sixteen Recent Snaps

Recent snaps from around Haninge. There's one woman in the collage that I really would like to photograph if I got the chance to do so. The photos are from the Haninge Day celebrations, from my favorite beach Årsta Havsbad, from a few sittings at the cafe, Malmens konditori, and from rural Alby.

Some nutter decided to stick a nonsense message to this bench at my favorite beach. Note to self: bring pliers with you next time.

I have a few complaints

This is a walkway/bike lane in Västerhaninge near Skarplöts Allé. I decided that it was better to ride on the road when I was there earlier today.

Early one Sunday morning

Hasse enjoying (?) a cigarillo while taking in the sunrise view from the new observation tower at Tornberget one Sunday morning not too long ago. We decided earlier in the year that it would be fun to trek to the new tower a few times this year and this was a fun visit. We arrived five minutes before the sun rose at six in the morning and stayed for around one hour. It's a 25 minute walk through the forest to the tower and you can see for many miles in every direction. No one else around and the silence was remarkable. We enjoyed coffee and bite to eat while watching the sunrise through the morning clouds. It was a fine start to the day.

Väntkur

The ferry terminal Årsta Brygga in Haninge got a big makeover recently. This is the brand new and very impressive looking waiting area for the passengers waiting to board the ferry to Utö. Architect unknown.
