Kalkberget

Egelsviken Himmerfjärden A good place for some coffee A close call The bay A calming view
This was the third hill I climbed during my hill-climbing week. And the one that was furthest away. It took maybe 90 minutes to get here by car, and that included a short ferry ride at Skanssundet. These photos show the Egelsviken bay and the bigger Himmerfjärden bay from the Kalkberget hill. This is an old limestone quarry at the island of Mörkö. Today a nature reserve with a marked trail up on the hill and through the forest. I was there with one of the usual suspects. We enjoyed coffee looking at the view in the top photo before walking on. I will remember this as the first "Summer" day of the year as it was around 15C from a clear blue sky and I was in my Summer uniform! I took the official route snapping away as I walked. My buddy of the day took another way over the hill but when we compared stories later we both met just one other person up on the hill, a photographer who was busy not looking at the view but crawling on all four shooting macro-images of anemones.

The Green Hill

The Green Hill
Raining as I'm typing this. So no new photos today. This is a hill in Österhaninge. I have photographed it before. I sometimes walk up the hill, (a little more to the left than you can see here), because you have a good view over Kalvsvik and Husby from up there. And it's a quiet spot to sit and reflect on life as you eat a light lunch. If you are lucky the local wildlife might walk or fly by.

Myrstack

Up On The Hill
Swedish word of the day. Myrstack. Anthill. This is a grassy hill near the Snörom farm. Normally there's horses here but they were still at the farm so I walked up for a look around. I try to do that a few times every year and I have shown you a photo or two before. The tree fell a few years ago and has now been turned into a busy anthill.

A Tale From Klem's Hill

A Tale From Klem's Hill
At night the people could see the bonfires burning on the fields. During those nights it was said that treasures were hidden under the fires. The bonfires were known as "vredeseldar", fire's of rage. Every Christmas Day a vredeseld would burn at Klem's Hill, and no one dared go there. One year a peasant from Välsta walked over with a steel axe in his hand. He saw a mound, and in it he could see two dogs. Fires were burning from their mouths. Under their paws he saw items of silver. That scared the peasant who threw his steel axe into the fire. The fire grew bigger and the peasant ran home and told the story. That was a big mistake because you should always sleep one night before telling such a story. The peasant fell ill, but the steel thrown into the fire stopped it from burning ever again at Klem's Hill. From a book with tales from Södertörn published in 1934, written by Viktor Pettersson.

Firewood

Firewood

A Fallen Tree

I walked up a hill yesterday. Near the old Snörom farm in Jordbro. Sometimes there will be horses in the pasture here, but I guess it's too early in the year for that. I found this fallen and cut up Silver Birch on the hill, probably a victim of the storm that we had in December of last year. I can't remember if I have shown you any photos of the little horse farm here. If not. I will do so soon.

View from "Mount Tungelsta"

View from "Mount Tungelsta"

Standing on the top of "Mount Tungelsta" or Limpberget. The climb took ten minutes. Best to visit in the morning before the sun climbs to high in the sky, or in the evening It's very green here now, I like that! The road you can see is Skogsekebyvägen.
