Story of the day

Himmelsbågen
The peace monument at Nacka Stand. Thought out by Carl Milles. The plan was for the 23-meter high sculpture to be placed outside the UN headquarters in New York. But for whatever reason the idea for the sculpture stayed in a sketch-book. Many years later, a former student of Milles, Marshall Fredericks, by then in his eighties, decided to make the sculpture a reality. He did so with the help of Herman Bergmans konstgjuteri in Stockholm. And since 1995 you can see the sculpture down by the water at Nacka Strand. Photographed from Blockhusudden on Djurgården.

It is hard to see the figure on the top. That is a tough one to photograph.

Agreed. I took the photo because looking over water I was reminded about a tweet from last week where a journalist I follow took a smartphone photo of the sculpure. He was standing close to it, and it was a good photo, for a smartphone shot. So I guess I will have to go there myself now!

That structure is pouring water into the sea? Looks like a sea monster by itself.

Quite graceful.

Oh, and it is supposed to be God up there, or so I have been told.

Always need peace sculptures, I wish people would be more attention to acting more peaceful.

So of course I looked it up, and read that it is "god on the rainbow." Of course all that was in English. I clicked your photo so I could see him.
