A Frosty Morning

That Old Tree

A frosty morning in Tungelsta. Bigger photo. I took the bike up to Välsta for my weekly photo of the old tree, then decided to head home as I really wasn't dressed for such a chilly bike ride. Have a look at the slideshow, now with 119 photos of the old tree!

03:35 P.M.

03:35 P.M.

Not even time for afternoon coffee and it's already dark. The view from the veranda a few minutes ago. Greenhouses filled with poinsettia plants (but you already knew that).

8th of November

8th of November

This will be my third A Pohto A Week project. And the first where I will upload to this blog every week so stay tuned! This place was known as Aspnäs for many years. Bigger photo. Owned by the Wiger family who had a greenhouse business here for many years. Now it's a busy construction site. The new name is Wiger's Roses. Twenty one houses like the one you see here will be built at Aspnäs. The red building to the right is Tungelsta's oldest school building. I spent my first school year there back in 1970 as did my grandfather before me back in 1913 as you can see HERE.

Glowing in the dark

Glowing in the dark

The Blomorado greenhouses at Bergdalen glowing in the dark late in the afternoon. Bigger photo. The greenhouses are filled with some 30 000 poinsettia plants. Photos taken from the hill, 30 meters from my home. My family used to own the greenhouses, but we sold a few years ago and now the business are run by our neighbours Ingemar and Danuta.

Ribby

Ribby

Located in what can be described as a little park, this is what's left of the village known as Ribby in Västerhaninge The yellow mansion is around 200 years old but Ribby dates back some 700 years. The red buildings are a milk barn and a building where the farmer used to store food and clothing. A previous owner, a doctor, was friends with Carl von Linné and one of his students, Daniel Henrik Söderberg wrote a book here. Back then there was a big garden in the area. If you continue down the Blåkulla Road you will find this rune stone from the Viking era. Bigger photo.

Up the Spiral

Up the Spiral

The quickest way to get to and from The lakes at Rudan on foot is to walk through this futuristic looking spiral. It ends here at the Rudan area and you walk up the spiral and through a passageway to get to Rudsjöterrassen. Bigger photo.

A view through the trees

A view through the trees

Most of the year this little lake called just that, Little Lake, or Lillsjön is hidden away by the trees. It is surrounded by a power plant and a big industrial area, (hard to believe but there you go). A long time ago there was a bridge not far from the lake called Jordbro and that's how Jordbro got it's name. Back then there was an old pub next to the bridge. Both pub and bridge are long gone. Sometimes on my way to Lake Rudan, I park the bike and walk through a forested area just to take a photo of this place. Bigger photo.

Something to Reflect Upon

The Dancing Building II

Whenever I look at the reflection from the big windows at the Riksäpplet (Campus Haninge) building they show me something new. The dancing building is Najaden at the Rudsjöterrassen in Handen.

Blue Art

The gang of "lagom"

From a visit to the gallery in Österhaninge. The artists pick a theme every summer for their Art Promenade. In the summer time it's a great place to visit. You can hang out in their garden, have some coffee and discuss the art. I have been there taking photos for the last three years/art promenades.

Have a look at some of the other Daily City Photo Bloggers that are participating in the theme day.

Business Reflection

Business Reflection

I am a bit of a reflection freak. If I see a cool reflection somewhere I always stop and start to plan another photo shoot. On this occasion I stood on the roof of a big parking house in Handen. Here you are looking at a window at the Riksäpplet building reflecting what used to be Najaden in Handen. Now it's Haninge Business Center.

Confusing

Mall Entrance

One of the entrances to the Haninge Mall. Should be Handen Mall (Handen is the name of the area, Haninge is the Municipality). But some politician had a black out and the name changed when the new mall (roof added), was finished. The postal code was also changed, from Handen to Haninge, but a few years ago it was changed back. The commuter station was called Handen, but guess what it was changed to Haninge, and surprise surprise, last year it was changed back to it's original name. Aren't you glad I cleared all this up?

Old Church Road

Old Church Road

This is the old church road,Stenhamravägen, that once connected Årsta Castle with Österhaninge Church. A historic landscape with the castle, the church, old farms and runestones. Not sure how old this road is, but it was probably used by the Vikings. Bigger photo.

Misty Day

Misty Morning

Yesterday was misty. I mean really misty. Bigger photo. Never seen such a thick fog before. It lasted pretty much all day. As I took the bike up to Välsta for a photo of the old tree, visibility was down to a few meters. Veird to suddenly see a dog coming out from the mist followed by it's owner in the middle of the day!

Beatelund Runestone

Beteby Runestone

Just south of Beteby Farm(from 1380), in Österhaninge this 2,3 meter high runestone from the Viking era can be admired. No one has ever been able to translate the runic inscription.

90 Canadian Geese

90 Canadian Geese

Give or take a few. Bigger photo. Heading south for the winter the birds decided to stop and rest on this field in Österhaninge. Which was nice of them me thinks.

Autumn Wallpaper

Autumn Wallpaper

Walking in nature. I spotted a flock of Canadian Geese that had landed on a field close to Kalvsvik in Österhaninge. To get there I had to walk over this field and that's where I found the Autumn Wallpaper Photo. Stay tuned, I will show you the birds tomorrow. HERE is a link to the original size if you want to use this as your desktop photo.
