Fifty thousand people, (at least), took part in the Climate Rally in Stockholm on Saturday. Greta Thunberg was there of course. As was her organisation Friday's For Future, and 279 other groups. They walked across the city to Gustav Adolfs torg. I joined them here and there in between short bike rides so that I could photograph them at different places. It took the crowd four hours to pass by Sergels torg. More photos in my Flickr album, United for the climate.
Massive climate rally in Stockholm yesterday. They started at Vasaparken. I followed then with my camera from Sveavägen via Sergels torg to Gustav Adolfs torg. 280 different organizations took part. As many as 80 000 people out on the streets. Plus all the onlookers. Rebellmammorna XR Sverige, seen here at Sergels torg were one of those groups. Our general election takes place two weeks from now. The climate have not been discussed enough, hence this demonstration. Still going through my photos from this huge event. More photos tomorrow.
No Greta Thunberg outside the Government building last Friday. She was in Melle, in France protesting against the construction of huge water reservoirs for irrigation, but I did get a photo of this young woman protesting with her sign instead.
I walked into the end of one of two weekly protests against the Russian aggression/war against Ukraine. This one is held at Sergels torg every Sunday. More info here.
Two days ago I attended my fourth Fridays For Future demonstration in Stockholm, together with Greta Thunberg and maybe 4000 others. The protest started at Mynttorget where Greta got the worldwide movement going all alone five years ago as a teenager when she sat down there for her first protest. Now, she is studying full time at the Stockholm University. This time we walked to Medborgarplatsen, The Citizen's Square on Södermalm. Although I cheated a bit as I jumped on and off the bike a few times to get my photos. At the square there were music acts performing and a lot of speeches from activists from different organizations. I present the photos in no particular order. You can spot Greta on the last photo. There is also a snap when I guy takes a photo of me as I take one of him. And he found it on Flickr! As always I was there as much for saving the planet as photographing people, and I have a few favorites as usual. More photos in my set, Week of Action.Oh, and as a bonus, there is one photo where the protestors are walking up Götgatsbacken, which is the title of the book I mentioned in yesterdays post about the police officer Viktor.
Week of Action got under way yesterday. I stopped by the protest at Mynttorget, or Greta Thunberg's Place, as I think it should be called now. Greta and maybe 100 other climate activists from Friday's For Future and a few other organizations were there talking and also singing. Always a bit of a surreal feeling here. Lots of police because of the location at the Royal Palace and Parliament building and tourists visiting the old town, so she picked a good location when she got this movement under way a few years ago.
