The Yanks certainly have had a great deal of influence the world. I should know, I'm their neighbour.
Not nice to hang a tattered flag! Not easy to wear those shoes.

It is amazing (and a little scary) to see a group in a faraway country celebrating with American-themed things.
And, Kate is right. In the USA the flag conventions require that a flag be destroyed once it becomes frayed.
