A surprise wildlife encounter
I was out trying to find any early signs of autumn when I nearly collided with this elk yesterday. I's a "fjolårskalv", a calf born last year. It was munching away in what was once a private garden with a few apple trees near the Rudan nature reserve. We were both equally surprised, but I managed to get the camera out from the bag and had time to snap a few quick shots before the "älg" decided to disappear into the forest.

Judy from Prescott (Arizona) Daily Photo posted a photo of several elk near the Grand Canyon just a day or two ago.
I am not sure I would have recognized this young elk as an elk. What a treat to see.
This is great!
Looks like autumn is on its way. I guess these are normally quite 'skittish' animals.
You did get a nice shot of this elusive animal. The ones that I posted yesterday were not concerned about my being so close. I think they know when hunting season is and the ones that are close, migrate into the National Park where hunting is not allowed.
Beautiful capture. Lucky you were there at the right time! :)
Simply lovely, a great photo.
Lovely shot. You had good presence of mind to catch this quickly.
You are lucky, my rare surprises are... rats!
Fantastic! I will never be that lucky around here.
