Tulips

Tulips in Handen. A few years ago we had a tulip festival, which was fun for me as a photographer. Then a year later the municipality got the date of the annual festival wrong with about one week so on the festival weekend the tulips had already bloomed. No festival since. But there are a few flower beds still, like this one.

Flowermania

I am not going to compete with the tulip guy in Ottawa. Just saying. But I will show you these three macro photos I took at The King's Garden, Kungsträdgården a few days ago. It was me and a bunch of tourists and the odd local. Some of us were equipped with real cameras,(me), and quite a few, (the rest of the bunch) were smartphone people. So I won that match.

Tulip time

Two recent tulip photos. I had to show them to you, as William is up and running with his loooooooong series now. Taken with the mirrorless Canon on different days at two different parts of Stockholm. I found the first scene where I knew it would be. At the park at Vita Bergen. The White Mountains on Södermalm. Close to a church that sits high up on the hill. The park itself below and around the church is very popular year round. The second photo was more unexpected. There are, (still), a few places in the Capitol that I almost never visit. Reimersholme is one of those places. But I was there with a camera the other day, so chances are that you will see a few more photos from there soon. Anyhoo, the tulips were planted along the scenic beach promenade on this little island.

Tulip Roundabouts

Two roundabouts along Nynäsvägen in Handen. I shot the second one with a wide-angle lens at 24mm, although it is in fact 38mm with the Canon 77D because of the smaller sensor. The first photo was way trickier. It is a much bigger roundabout, with way more traffic, and the wide-angle didn't work, so I used my 70-300mm zoom lens and shot fifteen or so photos for a tricky panorama. Because of all the cars, cyclists and pedestrians, I'm guessing it took me a minute to snap the photos.

Swedish lexeme word of the day. Rondelltulpaner. Roundabout tulips in Västerhaninge.

Lökblandning

That is the name of the big tulip bed near Poseidon's square in Handen. Definitely the most photographed area in Haninge the last two years. In the background some of the new apartments currently under construction in the big Haningeterrassen project.

Tulpanfestival

Last year we had a very popular tulip festival in Haninge. Unfortunately the warm weather made the tulips bloom a week early. No such problems this time. This years festival took place earlier today. I didn't go this time but took a bunch of tulip photos yesterday and here are three of those photos.

It is that time of the year again, when the roundabouts in Handen goes from not being seen to be very colorful for a few weeks.

The Tulip Festival

The Tulip Festival took place yesterday in Handen. The weather was fantastic. Several hundred people filled up Poseidon's square for a few hours. The performance group ReAct! entertained the crowds. If you walked through the big tent you could pick yourself a free bouquet of tulips, and the queue for that never ended. So sit back and have a look at the slideshow. Party Soldiers

I spotted two guys in Handen on Saturday claiming to be Roman soldiers. They were carrying a lot of beers and after I stopped them telling them it was time for a few photos they wondered how long it would take them to get to the party in Tungelsta if they were going to be stopped like this every fifty meters. I directed them towards the tulip field near Poseidon's Square for a Summary backdrop. As soon as I was done with my photos, two other guys interested in taking their photo turned up.

Roundabout Tulips

The roundabouts in Västerhaninge and Handen are quite colorful at the moment. Lots of tulips to thank for that. Haven't heard about any tulip-related accidents so far although I have crossed one or two roads to get to a better shooting position.

Still blooming on a lawn in Handen. But not for much longer.

Flower's blooming everywhere

It only took a few warm days. Now, everywhere you look there's cherry blossoms and blooming tulips.
