Bug me not

The firebugs are back
The firebugs are back. They usually come out when it is a bit warmer, and we have 13C at the moment and that was good enough for them.

Spring Bug

Spring Bug
One of the first signs of Spring every year, at Bergdalen (name of the property where I live), is when the firebugs comes out for the first time and that happened today. This little guy was sitting on the cellar door and when I had a closer look around I could see at least fifty of them.

Proof of Spring

Proof of Spring
There's a dead tree trunk next to the cellar door here at Bergdalen. It is the home of a few hundred Firebugs. They are a good indication of the arrival of Spring. This year they sent out this little guy to see if it was time to come out. He reported back that it was. Oh, and this shot was pretty enough to make it to my morning paper where it was published yesterday as a sign of spring!

The Firebugs are back

The Firebugs

A sure sign of spring. The firebugs are out running again. These guys live near a tree trunk close to the cellar door at my place and I have noticed more and more of them in the last couple of weeks.

The first sign of Spring!

The first sign of Spring!

This years first sighting of the firebugs, a true sign that spring is on the way. The red bugs live in a tree trunk next to the cellar door at Bergdalen, and I spotted this one as I was getting the bike out.

Bugged Wall

Bugged Wall

I bought a very cheap Canon PowerShot earlier this week. A just in case camera, as the old Digital Rebel is having some issues. Always fun to see what you can do with a new camera. This one only costed me 800 SEK. I shot the sky photo with it so that setting seems to work. Today's photo shows the fire bugs that lives in the tree trunk next to the cellar door. We call them Eldskinnbaggar and this shot tells me that the macro setting on the camera also seems to work.

The Fire Bugs Are Back!

Another sign of Spring

The Fire Bugs are back! And that is another sign of Spring! I noticed them as I took out the bike from the cellar a couple of days ago. They live in a tree trunk next to the house. It's one of my favorite insects. Their Latin name is Pyrrhocoris apterus. The bugs are quite small, between 8 and 30 millimetre. They feed on lime tree and mallow. They often move in big clusters, and mate in tandem formation for up to a week! You can see some more photo in the slideshow below.

Macro Mode

ice cream stick and fire bugs

I woke up to a blue sky today. Nearly all the snow is gone and it was 6 C here today. I went down to Blomorado to shoot some spring like photos at their greenhouses and realised tha the ice cream truck had been there. So I just ate my first ice cream of the season. And here is another proof of spring. The fire bugs are here again. Here they are with my ice cream stick that I put there to show you the size of the bugs.
