Moo!

The May heat is gone. Replaced with more normal Swedish Summer weather. So as I am typing this it is maybe 10C, windy, but with fluffy clouds. I am having some issues with the eBike so it is at a repair shop. Luckily for this obsessive cyclist, I have three other bikes. And I have used two of them over the last couple of days. And, wow, it is a bit harder to bike without the help of the pedal assist, and slower. This is a pasture at Länna, near Lake Drevviken in Huddinge. Usually there would also be sheep here, but not on this day.

I bike past this pasture along Gamla Dalarövägen in Huddinge a few times every week. There are also some sheep in there. The animals are very popular with passersby, young and old. Close to Lake Drevviken. Workers repaved the road here a month ago, and the cows got some new fans that week. There is a nature reserve here, so you can walk in, at least if you don't disturb the animals, but they are usually only there during the warm part of the year.

Garden art at it's best. Could be hard to outclass this. Photographed in Krigslida a few days ago. Second photo shot while cycling to Nynäshamn last week on what was a fantastic Autumn day. The cows were enjoying the day in the birch forest at Björsta.

The cattle lives at the Berga Agricultural College and usually spends the Summer in this pasture at Kapp-Ekeby near Fors in Västerhaninge.

Chewing The Cud

Cows hard at work at Tyresta national park. Info in English about the national park can be found here. Tyresta is located just 20km from Stockholm so it is very accessible for anyone visiting the nations capital.

Biked through a rural area in Haninge a few days ago. This is Alvsta in Österhaninge.

Just a kilometre from where I live you will find the Haga farm. This was the scene in the "kohage" two days ago. As I arrived the farm worker was moving the cows from one pasture to another. The red cottage on the hill dates back to at least 1690. It is called Håkstorp, or Håkanstorp.

These heifers live at one of the smallest farms I have ever visited. It is called Haga and you will find it in Tungelsta. On this my most recent visit on one of those beautiful early summer days the cows were busy eating grass when I arrived to the pasture. At first they were a bit shy, but after a minute or so they decided that I was friendly and came running towards me.

There's something special about cows. And as I live in an area with quite a few farms, I do see a lot of cattle on my journeys around Haninge. And as with many other things I have to stop for a closer look and some photos especially as these cows are very photogenic. The top photo was taken near Alvsta on a recent bike ride with my friend Jim. This is Scottish Highland cattle, also known as Kyloe. Just after I took this shot Jim was on his way into the pasture to check out a standing stone, but as that got the attention of the herd, he was quickly back on the other side of the fence!



I shot the second photo close to Stadsberga, but it is actually from the same pasture, and the cattle all belong to the nearby Årsta Säteri. This was from a bike ride just two days ago with Henrietta, a birdwatcher I have met a few times. We stopped at a few interesting places and I will show some photos from our trip in a day or three.

The farms at Hammarby, in a rural part of Haninge dates back to 1650. Back then it was three farms. Today what is known as Hammarby Gård is a modern farm with cattle, seen here, and Bashkir pony's. The farm, run by the Norlin family is very popular and visitors come her to ride on the ancient breed of horses. If you understand Swedish you read more on their web site.

Scottish Highland Cattle

Still not back up and running after the flu so I'm digging into my flickr archive. This is a shot that I took two years ago. Not much snow that winter. Scottish Highland Cattle enjoying their lunch just a km away down the road from my place. They live in a barn just off the Södertälje Road. Did I mention that this is a rural part of the country? But it's no more than 30 km from Stockholm.
