Kristallvertikalaccent

Kristallvertikalaccent
This sculpture at Sergels torg in Stockholm was debated for a long time. Edwin Öhrström won the contest as to what should be placed in the big fountain and his piece, the nearly 40 meter high Kristallvertikalaccent was finished in 1967. It was meant to be lit up from within, but that didn't happen until the mid 1990s! So for all that time it just looked like this, very gray and very dirty. These days it is equipped with LED lights and the colors change all the time, just not when I snapped my photo, obviously.

It has a kind of russian brutalism typical for the style of the sixties. But the surroundings give a good contraweight. Nice.
