A Meeting with the Police

A Meeting with the Police

I chased down the police yesterday. I spotted these four guys on a bike path in Jordbro. They were a few hundred meters ahead of me so I had to bike hard to catch up with them. In an effort to make the police more visible on the streets around Stockholm, the Police commissioner Carin Götblad has decided that more officers should be out in the public rather than behind a desk. So for two weeks every year the police cancels most of their internal meetings and steps outside to meet the people. And that was the reason why Max (to the right), had three visiting police chief colleagues from Stockholm with him today. The other three are from left to right Roland, Mikael and Patrik. They had been out for a few hours when I met them in Handen, and they told me that they had visited most urban areas in Haninge during their 40 km ride. So for the next few days you will see many officers out on the streets, Max said that he will have five or six officers on bicycles during the upcoming Walpurgis Night celebrations.

More facts here.

They seem like quite nice, friendly guys! But I guess they can be tough and stern when they need to be.

Steffe, you're good on a bike - couldn't you be a policeman, too?

vi ser ikke mange politi ute i gatene, verken på to ben eller på sykkel. GOD IDE. Send den over til det norske Justisdepartementet:)

You did a lot of 'catching up ' lately, first the firewoman, now the police !
They look so incredibly nice and not at all tired from a hard days work !
Lovely police you have up there !
I have wanted to take pictures of police but have not done so... I believe it is totally illegal to do so in Belgium !

Great guys! Most of our officers would probably like more to come under fire than to bike in our traffic...

Will they be quite busy during the coming goings on? Is this an alcohol event???

That seems like a silly law Anni.

Oh, yes, it's one of the worst nights of the year when it comes to binge drinking so they will have their hands full all night.

This idea is what is called "community policing" in the States. It is like the old days when patrolmen walked neighborhoods on foot. These officers all look very fit, which is a good advertisement for the lifestyle in Sweden.
