In Flight

In Flight

Paragliding is a popular sport in Sweden and in Haninge, and I often see and hear them on warm summer evenings. There are a few different types of gliders. This is a powered paraglider. One of four gliders that I spotted hovering over the old tree in Tungelsta on Thursday evening. As I shot this photo I figured it could be Johan, who enjoys this somewhat dangerous sport, or perhaps his daughter Malin. But on Friday, visiting my barber, another paragliding enthusiast, Mikael told me that it was a few friends of him that were out flying.

Steffe Meister - I just looked at your many, great FLICKR photos (not flicka) well, maybe you have flicka pictures, too? Kanon!

It looks like you might have been in the air when you took this great shot! Excellent work.

Great contrast. I love how the red just cuts through the sky.

If I were you I'd stick to the bike. If you break down you can just pull over. Excellent shot though.

Always fascinated by this way of flying but a bit wary of anything that is not a proper aircraft.
Great shot, a flying portrait.

wow you'd never get me up there, scared of heights.

It's pretty loud, isn't it?

The whole town can hear it when it's approaching...Ha ha

Thanks Sean, glad you like the portraits.

Considering what happened to Johan, I will have to agree with you Don and Krise.

A bit more economical compared to buying your own air-plane I think! Loud they are. There's a hill where I live and sometimes when I hear them coming I walk up on that hill and start shooting from there.

Oh, paragliding must be really thrilling. Never tried it. Must be pretty amazing what you can see from up there. Great shot!

Great shot. Coincidentally, I saw one of these here in North Bay, CANADA last month. I have a photo on my photoblog. 'He didn't come very close so I didn't get the same detail that you did, Steffe.

londoncalling, you're right. These paragliders are very noisy!
