Half a barn

Half a barn
A bike ride through a rural part of Österhaninge a couple of days ago. I couldn't walk up the hill at Snörom as it was a horse pasture so I continued on to Kalvsvik where there's a little cliff overlooking the fields and what not and while sitting there I noticed that something was up with the old barn.

11:55 AM

11:55 AM At five to twelve on Saturay I was crossing a snow-covered field at Krigslida. Many years ago my family owned and used the field. Growing up dad told us the horrible story about when he worked on the field spreading out DDT against insects. That was before anyone knew how dangerous DDT was. It messed up his face pretty badly and made him look much older than he was. The old barn seen here was once part of the Krigslida farm. The farmhouse was destroyed in a fire, it was nearly 400 years old, the barn is newer, it is newer. Never been inside so I don't know if there's anything of interest in there.

Guatemala

Guatemala
The collapsed barn Guatemala at the Nödesta farm. I don't know the story behind that name, but if I remember correctly it was the tractor babe, or perhaps her sister that told me the name a couple of years ago. Last time you saw this barn was through the mist back in November. The reason I was back this time was to document the tree turning green again. The barn lived to be 200 years old. A woman I know, who lives nearby at the Hammar Estate, once told me that she has a diary where one of her ancestors writes about his life as a farmer here. He worked in this barn when it was brand new. The old barn collapsed because of negligence and too much snow.

Through the Mist

Through the mist

This autumn has been very warm, and misty. This was the scene at Nedersta a few days ago. Through the mist you could just see the collapsed barn at the 700 year old Nödesta farm. The tree to the left is not the old tree that I show you every now and then, but the magnificent tree, where up until a couple of years ago you would often see Karin's sheep rest in the shade.

Welcome To Nedersta

One Year Later

The sad remains of the old barn at the Nödesta farm. It collapsed last winter. It is owned by the municipality. They don't care much about it. It is a leasehold estate but the farmer care equally as little. But it is a lovely sight none the less.

Collapsed Barn

Back in June last year I visited the old farm at Högsta for a photo-op together with my friend Jim. We had a look around the old farm and it's surroundings. The old barn is filled with interesting stuff. It belongs to Rolf Norlin and his wife. They live down the road at the Hammarby Farm. Most of the stuff in here belongs to an old guy in Handen called Engström. He left the things there some 25 years ago when the previous owner still lived at the farm. Earlier this winter the barn collapsed because of the pressure from all the snow. I was informed of that when I met and photographed Jonas back in January. And yesterday I took the bike down to Högsta for a closer look. I didn't walk into the barn as it looked a bit unsafe. I talked to Rolf last year and mentioned that he should perhaps give away the threshing machine to the agricultural museum at Berga. I hope he had time to do that. Oh, and the second photo here is a panorama made from eight photos. Shot from a hill just behind the old barn. To see a few more photos from the visit last summer check out this slideshow.

The Inevitable

It had to happen

This was the old barn at the 700 year old Nödesta farm at Nedersta in Haninge. The farm land and the buildings are a leasehold estate owned by the municipality. The farmer Jan Claesson has operated the farm with his daughters for many years. This old barn has been on the brink of collapse for a few years now. Up until last fall the dog trainer Karin Mörling kept her sheep here. I'm glad she moved out in time. This was the scene at Nödesta earlier today. The barn has collapsed because of negligence and the one meter of snow we've had this winter. I have taken many photos here, the last one in May last year. Here is one with the magnificent tree and some of Karin's sheep. And here is a portrait of Karin and her sheepdog Ned, also taken at the old barn. So I guess there will be no more photo ops like when I shot the Sheep on the run here in the future.

Decaying Barn

Old, decaying barn

This is an old decaying barn at Djurgårdsgrind. The home of famous writer Ivar-LO Johansson, who moved here with his parent when he was ten years old. He was a friend of my grandfather and wrote a few good novels. Sadly the elderly owners of Djurgårdsgrind havent been able to look after the buildings for many years. When they do visit, they stay in the house that Ivar-Lo's parents built after arriving to Tungelsta back in 1910. Hopefully the municipality will one day buy the property and restore it to it's former glory, as it is a piece of local history.

The Snake Theatre

The Snake Theatre

The entrance to the theatre barn Orm-Teatern. Or The Snake Theatre, at Lake Rudan in Handen. The theatre has been around since the late seventies. If I remember correctly the company was started by the writer Ulf Oldberg and his wife, Britt Inger Oldberg (my communist school teacher for three years). No idea if they are still involved. Zoom out.

November Rain

The old barn III

I took one of my MP3 Players for a walk in the rain. Because it was Saturday I stopped at Välsta for my weekly shot of the old oak. The rain started to pick up so I decided to turn back home after a visit to the old barn at the Nödesta Farm. Not that many people around, but a few of the sheep greeted me.

The same sheep that I met last week btw.

Antiques Barn

Across the road from the shopping centre in Västerhaninge you will find this little red barn. At Åby and that's why it's called Åby Lada. They sell antiques and furniture here. I didnt buy anything, I take pictures.

Sky over an old barn

Sky over an old barn

Some serious winds here today. Warm and a bit of a blue sky. This is the old barn at Nödesta again. Shot this on my promenade, up to the weekly photo of the old oak. I usually take a few snaps of the surroundings, a few old farms, horses and...well that's it really.
