A place to rest for a bit

A place to rest for a bit
Atriumgård by Fredrik Holmqvist. This piece was a project between schoolkids and the artist. Stood outside a school in Jordbro for many years. I was a student there long before that. The school is gone today, replaced with modern apartments. And the Atriumgård can be found in a nearby park. Photographed yesterday when I was out on a (slow), bike ride for the first time since the man flu hit. I managed 40 kilometers. Might try again today with a longer ride.

The definitive proof of spring

Blåsippa Blåsippa Blåsippa Blåsippa
Two days this week with real warm weather. It was 15C when I decided to cycle through the Iron Age grave field in Jordbro to look for a special sign of Spring. The liverwort. Or, blåsippa in Swedish. The only problem was that I didn't have my macro lens with me, so I had to shoot with the 24mm lens.

Our Home

Our Home
One of several paintings done by local kids in Jordbro, a suburb with mostly immigrants and quite a lot of gang issues. I went to school here a few eons ago. My school was demolished a few years ago after also serving as a cultural center for many years. A new school had of course already been built, and on the property where my old school used to be you will today find new apartment buildings.

Another sign of Spring

Blåsippor Liverwort
It is not a real Spring if I don't photograph some blåsippor. I have two places in Haninge where I know I will find them, and these two macro photos are from one of those places. It is a favorite spot for quite a few reasons. One, it is a nature reserve here called Gullringskärret that I always enjoy walking through. There is also a burial ground with graves from the Iron Age here, known as Jordbro gravfält. I have a flickr album with at the moment 199 photos if you want to check it out.

Bicycle Parking

Bicycle parking
This is a bicycle parking that I pass by almost every day. Near the Jordbro commuter station, and the Jordbro industrial park, where you will find the Coca-Cola plant and many other companies. You can also see my photo in the latest installment of the Weekly Snapshot if you Press Here.

Hungry?

Hungry?
There are several restaurants in this area that always make me hungry. This is not one of them. But it is open for business, and a lot of people use it, so I guess they must do something right. Either that, or the truckers at this industrial park don't know about those other places.

Kids Wall

Kids Wall Read and learn
I spent three years as a student at the Jordbromalmsskolan back in the late 1970s. The school sits next to the shopping centre where we spent a lot of time. Both will be gone soon. The school was a cultural centre for the last decade, but closed a couple of years ago. These murals can be found on a wall at the shopping centre, they were made with the help of the Jordbro World Orchestra two years ago. A new school opened nearby a few years ago, I remember snapping a few shots when that construction started a decade ago now. A new mall will be built closer to the commuter station in Jordbro, and a number of apartment buildings will be built where the shopping centre and school buildings stands today.

The Jewels

The Jewels
Cycling through the Höglunda park in Jordbro yesterday I decided to check out the sculpture Juvelerna i Jordbro. Translated that means The Jewels in Jordbro. The artwork, in form of a six meter high metal tree, is a collaboration between 125 fourth grade school kids, and the two artists Mette Björnberg and Richard Johansson. The official unveiling took place on Walpurgis Night ten years ago, and I was there that day and remember it like it was yesterday. The jewels are of course all the kids, but also the many silhouettes including the ☮ sign. The sculpture is said to tell the story about how the kids came to live in Jordbro, a suburb with a big immigrant population. Ten years on and the sculpture loooked almost as it did a decade ago.

Memba Him?

Memba Him?
Spotted this truck in Jordbro the other day. Looks like Assman has a new career as a trucker. I'm guessing Proctology can be too much in the long run.

Different Ways

Different Ways
The walkway to the right is kept free from snow and ice during the Winter. So you can easily run and cycle there. The one to the left not so much. As seen at Hanveden yesterday.

The Power Plant

The Power Plant
The Vattenfall owned power plant in Jordbro. They used to have a Christmas tree up on the roof. Too expensive perhaps?

Lokomotiv

Lokomotiv
Swedish word of the day. Lokomotiv. Someone noticed the photographer. As seen at the Jordbro industrial park on Thursday afternoon. I was nearly run over by this locomotive a couple of years ago. It passed this walkway silently which scared both me and the engine driver. Fingers were shown. No such trouble this time around.
