The horse farm

It has been a very cold start to May the beautiful this year. On several recent bike rides, long and short I have been riding in my Winter uniform. Which is never much fun. Anywho, on my way home from one of those short rides I decided to take a shortcut through a nature reserve in Jordbro where you can find an ancient burial site, and also this little horse farm along Björklundsvägen. To get the whole birch tree in the shot I took nine photos.

Hagaberg

The farmhouse (Mangårdsbyggnad), at Hagaberg in Tungelsta was built in 2002 in a style that has been used for hundreds of years in the North of Sweden. This is a little horse farm a few kilometers from where I live.

It's Dandelion Season

Dandelion season at the little horse farm between Västerhaninge and the Bronze Age burial ground in Jordbro. Normally the pasture is open for the horses but as it was empty I walked in for a few photos. Back in the late 1970s my mother and an uncle used to make wine from Dandelion. It was illegal back then. They used my grandparents basement and I can confess to "removing" quite a few bottles during my teenage years, and I can also say that I will never ever drink that stuff again.

Snow-covered roof

A building at a horse farm in Lillgården. I will try to remember to go back for a summer version. The reason for that is that the roof will look very different in a few months time as it is a grass roof!

Lunch in the pasture

The Björklund horse farm is situated near the iron Age grave field, and the Gullringskärret nature reserve. The only way to get to the farm is to take the Viking Era gravel road from Västerhaninge. The road ends at the farm and you can only continue on foot or on bicycle. Heading home recently I stopped at the pasture when I noticed a few horses eating dandelions. It was a very peaceful scene and all I could hear was bird song. I think this photo works well for the theme day which is Tranquility. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

Winter Days

I think that Gråbergsvägen has to be one of the shortest roads in Tungelsta. With two, or if it is three houses. This is one of them. A little horse farm that always looks good on a photo, as proven with this diptych. The blue sky version is from three days ago when we had a very cold day. The right hand side shows the place back in November of last year when the first snow-fall of the season happened. Sadly there were no horses out in the pasture on either of those two visits. But in one of the other houses here you will find the very photogenic Cookie the Peacock.

Winter at Ängshagen

On a recent promenade I stopped at Ängshagen along Vädersjövägen for a photo. It is an old farm close to where my mother grew up. Today it is a horse farm. Seven years ago I took a photo of a very old shed here,PRESS HERE to see that photo. Sadly the last two winters was too much for that building as you can see on my second photo.

A Cold Winter's Day

It has been very cold in Haninge lately. Yesterday we had -18C. But if you are a horse you probably want to spend a few hours outdoors, and if you can enjoy lunch at the same time that's even better. This was the scene at Gråbergsvägen in Tungelsta the other day.

Winter Horses

Horses in the snow at the little horse farm at Gråbergsvägen in Tungelsta. One good thing with cold winter days are that they often come with a blue sky. Like on this occasion. It was -12 Celsius as I took this photo. Kinda cold but with the sun shining and no wind it was a refreshing promenade.

Camilla & Watergate

This is Camilla on her horse Watergate. Probably the first horse I have seen named after a big scandal! I met them at Gullringskärret in Jordbro a while back. Camilla who is twenty two works as a waitress, and lives with her parents and grandfather at the nearby Björklund Horse farm. Camilla has lived there nearly all her life. The family bought the place some seventeen years ago. And as you can guess Camilla's big interest is horses. I have previously met her dad and I have also visited the farm so if you would like to see a few photos from Björklund check out the slideshow below.

Middle Farm

As I came down the gravel road towards Stadsberga, I stopped and shot some photos that I used for a great panorama. This is three of those photos. This is Mellangården, a horse farm run by the Skärbäck family. Their stable is just to the right and you can see it on the panorama. Bigger photo.

This is Gæi. An Icelandic horse that I met at the Västergården horse farm the other day. A real poser me thinks. The farm is located in a rural village in österhaninge called Stadsberga. Bigger photo.

Modern Day Rune stone

Do you have your own Runestone? Didn't think so. Lotta and her family at Västergården horse farm in the little rural village of Stadsberga does. The inscription reads Lotta o Joachim o Therese o Richard, alla Carlsund, lät resa sten o bygga hus på egen mark. Kalle rista. Which translates to Lotta, Joachim, Therese and Richard, all Carlsund, had the stone raised and the house built on their own land, Kalle did the inscription. Kalle is Kalle Runristare. There are Icelandic horses at the farm I will show you more photos later in the week.Bigger photo.

Stadsberga

This is Stadsberga, a small rural village in Österhaninge. Surrounded by history. There are ancient grave fields and rune stones here and there. It's close to Årsta Castle, Årsta Säteri, Alvsta, Ormsta, and many other interesting places that I have documented over the years. Bigger photo.

Alvstatorp

Situated in a beautiful landscape, this is Alvstatorp. Surrounded by open fields and forested hill sides, Alvsta has been populated since the Bronze Age. Six hundred years ago it was called Aluastrom and later Alfsta. There are grave fields (ättehögar) nearby where it is believed the original village once stood. In the forest between Alvsta and Ormsta you will find a rune stone. The gravel road you can see here goes from Alvsta to Årsta Säteri and it dates back many centuries. Bigger photo.

Horse Farm

Do you like horses? Bigger photo. Don't mind living in a forest with nature and a little lake as the next door neighbour? Well this is your lucky day. I took a bike ride through a few places like that the other day. This is Dåntorps Hästgård (horse farm), in Dåntorp. Close to lake Öran at Riddartorp. Havent been to the lake for years. Many new houses in this area over the last years. A good place if you like horses and don't mind the gravel road. You enter Dåntorp from a small road at the Jordbro industrial area or, like I did from Lida, between Tungelsta and Västerhaninge.

Santa is dead

I read in the paper that Santa was missing. No one had seen him for a couple of days. I decided to track him down. Today I'm sad to report that he could be dead. After a long search I found what looks to be Santa on a roof in Fors, Sweden.



I zoomed in for a better look. It looks like he has been up there for a few days at least.

Red and green

There's five or six of these homes here. Lots of horse lovers in Tungelsta. This is from Lillgården. Shot from Söderbyvägen.

Nap Time At The Pasture

On a promenade around Tungelsta. Stopping at the pasture at the horse farm called Välsta. Early afternoon an a warm spring say, well it's almost summer. You will meet many joggers and walkers here. A few of them stod here and watched the foals relaxing. So did I.

Spring at Fors

I often go back and photograph the changing seasons. This is the spring version of the old farm at Fors. The red building is an old mill turned into a private residence. And here is the winter version:
