Decaying Greenhouse

Decaying Greenhouse
One of quite a few neglected greenhouses in my neck of the woods. This one is at Vreta between Tungelsta and Västerhaninge. I bike past it most every week and liked the Autumn colors so I stopped for a photo.

Glowing Greenhouse

Glowing Greenhouse
The view from the hill at Bergdalen yesterday afternoon. The glowing greenhouse was constructed back in 1990 if I remember correctly. When my family owned it, we always had it filled with poinsetias this time of the year. Day 36 in my project 100 Days Of Darkness.

Winter Glow

Winter Glow
A sudden change in the weather. Two days ago it was -15C. Today it is 4C and snow snow is slowly melting away. Took this snap at home yesterday afternoon. The glowing greenhouse, today owned by Blomorado was built back in 1991.

Faulty greenhouse construction

Faulty greenhouse construction
New greenhouse in the new park at Stav/Lillgården in Tungelsta. They set it up just last year. Didn't last very long did it? One or two windy days finished it off.

Glasshouse no longer

Växthuset
After 800 smashed and replaced windows, the local historical association, Folk & Trädgård in Tungelsta gave up. The new acrylic sheets should be a bit harder to break for the local kids. You will find this little greenhouse in the park in Tungelsta. It has been used for wedding parties and more. Not sure how appealing this new look will be, but the greenhouse will still be used for the upcoming Christmas market.

A Colorful Sunset

A colorful sunset
It's nice when you can shoot a photo or two without leaving the house. I took this snap from the veranda a few days ago. I guess the colorful sunsets is one good thing this time of the year.

There's a certain slant of light

Winter Greenhouse
I took this photo late last year, just a couple of days ago in fact. It's the little greenhouse in the park in Tungelsta. Built by the members of the local historical association. Using parts from abandoned greenhouses around Tungelsta. It is very popular for weddings and baptisms as well as markets and what have you. But it was empty on this very cold day. The temperature was -10C. What a difference a few days will do. As I'm typing this it is 8C and we are waiting for the storm Svea to hit us.

A Rock 'n' Roll Christmas

A Christmas Kiss
Out walking yesterday I decided to circle the greenhouse in the park in Tungelsta where there was a Christmas Market. On one photo I managed to get a snap of the guitarist in the rock band Lugnet, Bonden Jansson kissing his girlfriend who is wearing a "tomteluva".

The blizzard of 2012

A Winter Afternoon On the road again
The calm after the storm is what you can see on the top photo, it's one of the greenhouses here at Bergdalen. We had the blizzard of 2012 yesterday. We got something like half a meter of snow. Arlanda airport closed. Many schools did the same as the commuter trains didn't run, nor did the buses which is why you could walk on the streets, which a woman is doing on the second photo. People were stranded everywhere waiting for buses that never arrived. That is never any fun in a snow storm. If you would like to read about the storm, I recommend this article in The Local.

The Forgotten Greenhouse Nursery

Abandoned Greenhouse

Took a promenade yesterday, ended up at Stenvreten. A forgotten greenhouse nursery near Karlsro in Tungelsta. Many years ago a woman called Viran Eklöf lived and worked here. Today the place is overgrown with flowers. It is a beautiful area with a few small horse farms and I am a bit surprised that no one has bought the property.

Rosenhill

Rosenhill

These greenhouses at Rosenhill in Tungelsta are no longer in use. I think there's an old car parked inside one of them. The property belongs to Rolf Andersson who lives nearby. I remember seeing a for sale sign here last year, but I don't know if he has sold or not. This part of Tungelsta is undergoing a lot of change at the moment. New houses are being built here and there, and I noticed one new house on my walk today.

Fjellner's Abandoned Nursery

Abandoned Greenhouse Nursery IV

Many years ago this was Fjellners' greenhouse nursery at Södertäljevägen in Tungelsta. He was also known as Cactus-Jonsson, so I guess he changed his name at some point and that he cultivated cacti. Apparently he was a real character. At one time when he had sold some flowers to the Swedish King and hadn't received payment he drove into Stockholm and the castle to have a word with the King about that. Not sure if he ever got his money. I had an uncle back then who repaired cars and whenever Fjellner's car broke down he demanded that Börje would leave everything and fix his car immediately! At one time he drove home after a late evening out with some friends, and when he woke up the next morning he realised that he had taken someone else's car! After Fjellner moved a woman from Finland bought the place. She rented out rooms to people (mostly drunks i think), and she never used the nursery, and it has been abandoned ever since. I believe she was fined a few times because she refused to remove the greenhouse skeletons. Since then the property has changed owners again, but as you can see the ugly remains are still here.

Glowing Greenhouse

Another Sunset

December Sunset

December started with a very colorful sunset in Tungelsta. This was the view from my front door at Bergdalen yesterday afternoon. Looks a bit like the sunset I showed you two years ago. You are looking at a greenhouse that we built back in 1990. These days it's owned by Ingemar and Danuta at Blomorado, but just as back then this time of the year it's filled with thousands of poinsettia plants. Oh, and if you would like to see how the glowing greenhouses look from the top of the hill press here.

First Snowfall

Winter Warning

In the early afternoon it started to snow here in Tungelsta. I was preparing to go out and take a few snow photos, but the snow was already melting away. Last year we had a heavy snowfall in November and that time I got quite a few good winter photos. The greenhouse you see here belongs to Blomorado and is filled with Poinsettia plants.

Christmas Already?

Christmas Already?

Not really. But the poinsettia plants are ready. Blomorado will open later in the week and I was there yesterday to take some photos for their website. This is greenhouse number six. The newest greenhouse built in the spring of 1990. Posing among the poinsettias are the new gardeners Ingemar and Danuta. Fact: There's 9 million citizens in Sweden. This year around 9 million poinsettia plants will be sold in december. CLICK HERE to see how the plants looked in October.

Just after sunset

Glowing Greenhouse

In November it gets really dark in Sweden. Today sun up was at 07:18. Sun down this afternoos at 15:46. It's not my favorite time of the year. But you can get some great photo opportunities. Had you lived in Tungelsta say 30 years ago this would have been a very familiar view. A glowing greenhouse. Today there are only 11 greenhouse businesses left. This is Blomorado. Shot half an hour after sunset. The poinsettia plants needs all the light they can get.
