Around the Castle

Häringe slott Häringe Available Seating Häringe slott Castle Window Åskhimmel
After my pasture walk, I jumped back on the bike and pedaled over to the Haninge side of the nature reserve for a quick visit at the Häringe castle. I have shown you some views of the castle, and it's surrounding areas before, but there is always more to see. Here are a few sculptures. The East Wing. My faorite bench. Blooming bushes at the pond, a secured window, castle style. I shot the last photo from the tree lined alley leading up to the castle after seeing a flash of lightning and the sound of thunder.

Häringe

Tree stump Flower Bobäcken
Three photos from a recent visit to the Häringe-Hammersta nature reserve. It is that place with the many oaks and the impressive view from the lookout point that I have shown you a few times. One of my favorite places in Haninge. The last photo shows Bobäcken, I snapped that photo from a little bridge. It is a great place for birdwatching.

Oak Trees

Oak Tree Majestic Oak Oak Tree
A recent visit to the Häringe-Hammersta nature reserve means that I came back home with quite a few photos of the oaks in that area, and here are three of them just to prove my point. After snapping these very green pics, two at Hammersta and one at Häringe, I went for a walk in a cow pasture shooting macro photos, before continuing on my bike down to the water where I climbed up a hill and then walked along the coastline for a bit. It was a great Summer day.

Taking a few photos in the forest while on my way up to the lookout point at Häringenäs last week made me think of that TV-show.

How do you clean a marble statue?

How do you clean a marble statue? Häringe Slott
That is the question of the day. Whenever I visit the Häringe-Hammersta nature reserve I bike past this castle and that is what I did last week on a warmish day.

The archipelago

The Archipelago Lookout Point
My third visit to the Lookout Point at Häringe in the last three months. It was another warm Autumn day last week, around 13C. I rode my bike to the nature reserve. Arriving it was all very quiet. I met two guys from the Skärgårdsstiftelsen doing forest maintenance at Häringenäs. And after parking my bike at the path leading up to the hill I met a guy on a mountainbike who told me that it was a bit windy up at the top. Which it was. But the view was as always great. As I took the top photo I got a flashback. Here is the story: Back when I was a kid, we are talking mid-1970s, we had this painter nick-named Gidde who lived a really rough life, with alcohol, homelessness, and what have you. He used to visit our place and my grandfather always fed him, gave him a bed for the night, while my grandmother cleaned his clothes. As a thank you, he sometimes gave them one of his paintings. The painting often looked like this view, and was always called something like Sunset over Nynäshamn. So I'm pretty sure he used to visit here and paint this view and I can't really blame him for that as it is a nice view. On the second photo you can see the two Super-post Panamax cranes at the Norvik harbor in Nynäshamn. To the right the new apartment building Fyren currently under construction.

Autumn Trek

Autumn View The Archipelago Hazy Day Lookout Point Benches Höstskog Björk Häringenäs
I asked one of the usual suspects if he wanted to join me on a trek up to the top of the Häringe hill last week. We have been talking about that since I walked up there earlier in the year. Then on the day of the trek, he texted me saying he suffered from a bad case of man-flu so it was just me cycling down to the Häringe-Hammersta nature reserve and walking up the hill at Häringenäs for a look at the view once again. It was a fantastic Autumn day. I only saw one or two other people in the nature reserve and up at the top, it was just me. The silence was deafening. The view covers the forests around Häringe as well as the archipelao in both Haninge and Nynäshamn.

Bobäcken

Vandraren Eknästorp Bobäcken Häringe Bobäcken Bobäcken
Five photos from my recent hike at Häringe. I snapped these views after my visit to the lookout point. I met the wanderer near the Eknäs farm. The cottage on the second photo is called Eknästorp. There are many majestic oaks in this nature reserve. The fourth photo shows the property Häringe Bobäcken. The bridge took me over Bobäcken into an area very popular with bird watchers.

The view from the lookout point

Utsiktsplats/Lookout Point View towards Nynäshamn Utsikt Tall Häringenäs
A few photos from the top of the hill at Häringenäs, part of the Häringe-Hammersta nature reserve. I arrived at the lookout point after a bike ride around the nature reserve and a 500 meter hike to the top from the path below. It was a fantastic Autumn day. Warm and sunny. It was just me up there, not counting the circling birds. I sat down at one of the benches and enjoyed my lunch. I could hear laughter from somewhere and half an hour later as I made my way down I met a group of people on their way up. What you can see here are a couple of islands including Muskö, Herrö and Yxlö in the Haninge and Nynäshamn archipelago. The two Super-post Panamax cranes are located at the brand new port in Nynäshamn.

Left or right?

Left or right?
If you turn left there's a castle up ahead. Turn right and you are at a farm in no time at all. From a recent visit to the Häringe nature reserve. Another photo used for a Facebook quiz and this one was way too easy as the nature reserve is very popular.

Eka
If you follow Viking Sote's Road all the way down to the Landfjärden bay, hoping to escape in the old rowboat or eka in Swedish, you will not get very far.

Around Häringe

Out and About Häringe - Hammersta Betsholmens Gård Sjönära Häringe
There's a horse farm at Häringe Slott. The surroundings are part of the Hammersta-Häringe nature reserve, so it is always open for the public. There were a few people out and about during my visit. If you arrive via Viking Sote's road you can see Betsholmens Gård at the Landfjärden Bay, (third photo), and the cottage down by the water (fourth photo), which is part of the Häringe estate.

Häringe Castle

Häringe Slott Five to One Östra Flygeln Sköna Maj The Rotunda
Some photos of Häringe Castle and a few of its pavilions. The current castle dates back to 1657. Owners over the centuries include King Gustavus Adolphus. The banker and industrialist Torsten Kreuger and Axel Wenner-Gren, at the time one of the wealthiest men in the world. The area has a very interesting history and it is said that the battle at Soteskär took place here back in 1007. At least if you want to believe Snorri Sturluson. These days it is a more quiet place. The castle is a popular hotel with rooms named after guests from the Wenner-Gren era, including Greta Garbo. Häringe is today part of the Häringe-Hammersta nature reserve so it is always open for visitors.

A bench for mere mortals

A bench for mere mortals Intimate Moment
If you were to rest on this bench at Häringe castle you could sit there and look at the intimate moment between the Satyr and the Menad just in front of the little pond where the birds hang out.
