Vattenrutschkana

Vattenrutschkana
Tricky to pronounce Swedish Summer word of the day. Vattenrutschkana. Or Vattenrutschbana. Water slide at Nickstabadet in Nynäshamn. Photo taken while out on a very sweaty promenade with my friend Hasse a couple of warm days ago.

Jumping Into Water

Jumping Into Water
Tough kid jumping from the 10 meter diving platform at Nickstabadet in Nynäshamn. Taken while out on a six kilometre promenade in the 30C sunshine. It was me and a a friend out walking, our driver took the car to the cafe at Lövhagen and when we arrived tired and sweaty he was sitting in the shade enjoining a cup of coffee. He is a smart man that guy.

Blood Moon

Blood Moon
I decided to walk up to the observation tower at Tornberget on Friday evening to watch the blood moon. It's a 30 min trek through the forest. Thinking I was late I upped the pace and as it was 25C I was sweating profusely when I arrived to the tower. We were maybe 20-25 people there. And around 500 winged ants that took a big liking to me. When the moon was ready to rise we saw absolutely nothing because of the mist. Instead we looked at each others photos from the tower and I showed a few people my blood moon snap from 2007. Then all of a sudden it was getting dark and most people decided to leave. I managed to get lost in the dark within a few hundred meters from the tower. After twenty minutes or so I found my way back to the tower where I met a family that were going my way, so it's all thanks to them that I managed to find my way home! And then, there it was, the blood moon, visible between the trees for a few minutes. I had to shoot hand-held using a very high ISO, so the photo wasn't much to write home about but it still counts!

Villa Faircliff

Villa Faircliff
Villa Faircliff at Trehörningen in Nynäshamn. All the old houses on the islet are listed buildings. They were built a little over a century ago when this was a really hip place for the rich, and a popular spa town. There were three hotels and a casino here back then. Fifty years ago the CEO of Nynäs Petroleum, Gunnar Fredenmark lived here. I believe that the same family owns the Villa today.

The Investigative Reporter

The Investigative Reporter
There we were walking at a slow pace, (it was so hot!), along the picturesque Strandvägen in Nynäshamn when we were suddenly overtaken by a car from the Nynäshamns Posten. The car stopped up ahead so I walked over and knocked on the side window. Out came the newspapers investigative reporter Amanda, ready to ask us all sorts of questions, but I beat her to it. What's happening with the water tower turned observation tower at Trehörningen? Did it burn down, can it be saved, we need to know. I was in in town earlier this Summer, with the usual suspects, planning to visit the tower, but we couldn't find it! We blamed Hasse for that, since he used to work on the tiny islet where the old water tower stands, or did stand for a century. So we left town disappointed and when we arrived home news came that the tower had been destroyed in a fire! A bit suspicious I know, but it wasn't us! Sadly Amanda couldn't help us, they had a reporter on the case, but there was nothing to report just yet. After this Amanda started bombarding us with her questions. How do you like the Summer? Is it too warm? What do enjoy doing during the Summer? The questions just kept coming and when Hasse took over the answering I managed to slip away long enough to take a portrait of the reporter and this is that photo.

How to...

The Expert, (long rant)
So in this country you can get a tiny paper package containing two sugar cubes at cafe's and restaurants. And there's a cunning way to open the package. But, and here's the thing, no one really knows, (or cares), how to do that the correct way. That is if you don't count Hasse, who is the self-proclaimed expert in this matter. And earlier this year he showed me how to do it. But as often happens when he starts yapping, no one listens. So when I opened such a package at a cafe yesterday afternoon he completely lost it! I had to go back and get another package so that he could demonstrate to me how to correctly open it. And he also ordered me to take a photo after his impressive performance and this is that photo. Oh, and the trick is to open the package with both thumbs. Something I am likely to never forget now.

That Old Tree

That Old Tree
No one else around as I made my way down the path towards the old tree yesterday afternoon. A few degrees cooler today, maybe 25C. The forecast said to expect rain and a bit of thunder and lightning but that never happened.

A house with a view

A house with a view Bergsvängen 13
Not a bad place to live. This house sits up on a hill at Bergsvängen in Tyresö overlooking a bay that runs along Brakmarsvägen. It sold last year for around 8 000 000 SEK. If you buy a house here at it will come with a place to dock your boat.

Uddby Kraftverk

Uddby Kraftverk
Six hundred years ago there was a mill here at Uddby in Tyresö. Later, between 1620 to 1750 pulp was produced here. This water power plant dates back to 1898. It is still in operation. This a panorama from four photos, taken with the 18 to 135mm lens, using the Canon 77D. I took the photo last Saturday when I was out on a very long and very warm bike ride with my buddy Lasse. We met up at Åvavägen/Dalarövägen and biked our way towards Visvvassvägen in the neighbouring municipality Tyresö, before continuing to our goal of the day the little islet Notholmen that I showed you in a post earlier this summer. sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uddby_kvarn

Lasse's new cool looking bike. Girl going the wrong way. She stopped me a few minutes later asking for directions so I helped her out. Photogenic dog at the art gallery. Sportscar at Dalarövägen. Corn field at Alby. Curious cat on a balcony above the cafe. Bus 839 to Dalarö at Klockarlötsvägen. The woman getting off the bus was on her way to a wedding or a funeral. She asked me when the return bus would come so I looked that up for her. Guided walk at the Art Promenade, (konststigen). That's a wrap. Well just one more then, a panning photo of a motorcycle, shot that one this afternoon.

Tanning Time

Tanning Time
It was a little too hot yesterday. Even for me. No energy to go out and take photos when it is 32C, at least not Swedish 32C. Stopped by the lakes at Rudan in the afternoon. There were a few sunbathers working on their tans, but not as many as you would think considering the weather.

Blimey, it's a Blimo X-Moto
Electric scooter for the elderly. Nice way to get around when you can no longer walk. Yours for around 20.000SEK. If you are lucky you can get 25 percent of that money back via the "Elfordonspremien". You can drive this thing indoors as well as outdoors. And it is legal do drive it on the sidewalks. Top speed around 18km/h.

Sporty Girl

Sporty Girl
Sporty girl walks by the cafe every now and then, I tried snapping a few shots of her last week but the focus was off on those photos. This time around I saw her coming so I was camera ready. But she fooled me by crossing the road so when I was ready to shoot she was a bit closer than I had anticipated. Next time I see her I will ask her if I can take a few posed portraits. It is another hot day here, I'm off to try a new bike path for the first time with a friend. Feels like it could be a tough ride.

Vimmel och Pannkaka

Vimmel och Pannkaka Do you want pancakes with that?
New cafe, (fik in Swedish), along Mulstavägen at Välsta in Tungelsta. Vimmel och Pannkaka. Opened by Veronika Nordh whom you can see in the second photo. It's a food truck in the garden at the horse farm near the old tree. Opened for business over the weekend. I was there yesterday. The coffee was just fine according to these two guys that accompanied me here. And very inexpensive at 10 SEK with included påtår! Will try the pancakes next time.

Wildflower meadow

Wildflower meadow Ängsblomster
Poetic Swedish word of the day. Ängsblomster. In the early Summer a few thousand bloomed on this lawn in front of Poseidons gränd in Handen. That was just in time for the tulip festival. Today it looks like this. It is the third year in a row that the municipality have planted wild flowers here and there. Last years Traffic Island Flower Bed was a big hit with the locals.

Dry Hill

Dry Hill
Not much rain in Haninge this year. But a lot of very warm weather and sunshine, nice for people like me, but not for the local farmers. The hay harvest came early this year and it will not be enough. This hill at Snurrom is normally very green and during the Summer months there's usually a lot of horses up there, not so this Summer.
