In the late afternoon

Late afternoon
Roe deer on a field at the Nedersta farm. I see them there most days. The farmer at the 700-year-old farm, Rolf, whom you have met here many years ago, used to set up signs informing people that they should not use his fields for Summer walks, but I don't think he minds the wildlife.

Mother moose and calves

Mother moose and calves
Cycling home yesterday, I spotted a moose family on a field belonging to Nedersta gård. I shot this from the bike path, I didn't want to scare them away. The cow had her eyes on a man at the other side of the field.

I See You

I See You
From a distance I noticed a moose family, so I jumped off my bike and tried to walk a little closer without scaring away the wildlife, as they were enjoying some grass on a field. They obviously knew that I was coming so when I came around the bend they were already at a safe distance at the edge of the forest.

Skogens Konung

Skogens Konung
Posing moose. Met this moose a couple of days ago near Stav in Tungelsta. It eyed me for a while before disappearing into the little forest. Oh, and if you don't speak the local lingo, Skogens konung means the King of the Forest.

Roe deer resting

Roe deer resting
I decided to leave home without the trusted Canon, which is never a good idea. So when I spotted this roe deer minutes after going out I turned around walked back home, got the camera and luckily for me it was still there a couple of minutes later.

Munchin' away

Munchin' away
Roe deer in a small forest in Tungelsta. We got some more snow yesterday but it melted away within a few hours. Still cold today, maybe 2C, but according to the weather people it will be 13C tomorrow.

September equinox

View From A Bridge Moose Calf Moose Höstdagjämningen took place yesterday. Also known as the September equinox. I stopped at the nature park Slätmossen in Handen for a few photos and a light lunch. I always shoot the view in the first photo because, you know, you have to really. After finishing my lunch I heard a noice so I looked around to see Mama Moose and her calf joining me in the park. Because I had decided to mostly shoot macro images I didn't have the zoom lens with me so I had to make do with the nifty fifty.

A Moose Meeting

A Moose Meeting
Met a moose family in the forest yesterday. This cow and two calves. She eyed me for a while and when I tried to go a little closer her ears told me not to do that so I stopped, grabbed a few snaps and turned around. I got the photo thanks to a man out walking his dog near Slätmossen in Handen. He pointed me in the right direction, so thanks for that!

Are you going to shoot me?

Are you going to shoot me?
Yes I am, but only with the Canon. And it is nice to be able to get so close to them. The silent zoom works it's magic again. The Roe deer was enjoying lunch in the forest at Bergdalen yesterday. The rest of it's family was nearby.

Munching Away

Munching Away
This Roe deer was busy eating windflowers when I spotted it a few minutes ago. Supposedly poisonous, but not if you are careful apparently.

A surprise wildlife encounter

Hungry Elk I was out trying to find any early signs of autumn when I nearly collided with this elk yesterday. I's a "fjolårskalv", a calf born last year. It was munching away in what was once a private garden with a few apple trees near the Rudan nature reserve. We were both equally surprised, but I managed to get the camera out from the bag and had time to snap a few quick shots before the "älg" decided to disappear into the forest.

A Curious Fox

A Curious Fox Baby Fox On a recent visit to the old tree I met two birdwatchers. They told me about the fox family that lived in what is left of an old stone cellar. So on my way back I stopped for a closer look and after a few seconds one of the young foxes spotted me, that is the second photo. On my most recent visit to the old tree I passed the fox earth, and when I looked back a fox appeared behind on the grassy hill next the earth and kept watch on me.

Hiding in the Grass

The Hedgehog

Out on a bike ride a few days ago, I noticed a movement by the side of the road. It was a hedgehog (or Igelkott in Swedish). It was busy trying not to be seen by anyone and especially not by nosy photographers. We locked eyes for a few seconds, and then I snapped a couple of photos before the hedgehog decided it was time to head off to safety.

The Nature of Listening

The Nature of Listening

A wildlife encounter in a forest in Tungelsta. A female roe deer standing there listening. When it noticed me it walked away slowly and didn't seem to be bothered with me being there.

Roe Deer Buck

Rådjursbock

Roe Deer Buck

Whenever I am visiting Slätmossen, the old peat moor, made into a popular bird park in Handen, I expect to meet pretty girls like Andrea or the Sun-Worshippers, or even a Dalmatian, but yesterday the park was empty. But suddenly I noticed a Roe Deer Buck walking up behind some trees where it started to eat some tasty blueberries. I was on the bike so I stopped slowly not to scare away the animal and took out my camera from the bag. I had to change to the zoom lens but the buck didn't mind waiting. Normally the animal will run away when they hear something, or if you get to close. But on this occasion it was yours truly who jumped back onto the bike and headed for home while the deer continued his lunch.

Posing Squirrel

Posing Squirrel

I have shown you some of the local wildlife before. Like Moose and Roe Deer and all sorts of birds. But this is one of my favorites. The very photogenic squirrel Sciurus vulgaris. Known in Sweden as a Ekorre. It lives here at Bergdalen and is a frequent visitor to the veranda where it often enjoys the bird food. It's quite shy, and if and when you get too close it will make a noise and start to jump around a bit. But as it is well aware that I'm in charge of thee food distribution around here, it doesn't takevery long before it's back, ready to pose for the nutty photographer once again!
