East and West

I took a bike ride around Österhaninge yesterday. 16C. Sunny, although quite a lot of clouds gathering during my ride. Here are two photos from two different golf courses. One in Österhaninge. The other in Västerhaninge. Back when my great-grandfather was around, he was Mayor in what was then the Västerhaninge municipality. Later, East Haninge and West Haninge became one. I like the top photo best here best. I noticed the three golfers wearing different colors, so I stopped for a photo. Earlier, in Västerhaninge I stopped at a bus stop to drink some water, and that is when I snapped the second photo.

Tearing down a temple

One of my BBQ buddies, Jujja, texted me a while back. Asking if I knew what was happening at the Mormon temple in Västerhaninge, (the only one in Sweden). I did not. It looks like it is going down, he said. We agreed that was good news, because we don't believe in the supernatural, heaven and hell and all that nonsense. I still remember being upset when they built it forty years ago. So I was happy for a day or two until I read an article about the temple in the local paper. Tearing it down because they are building a new temple. The guy who runs the show. Mr. 10 % as I like to call him, lives in a very big and luxurious house with his own private beach, (stolen from the municipality btw). And he, Mr. 10% is good friends with the other BBQ friend Hasse, from Villa Blåmes.

Nynäsbanan

Time flies and all that. The railway line Nynäsbanan was the reason my family moved here 120 years ago to set up two greenhouse nurseries. Back then, it was just one track. The bridge in the background is the Krigslida bridge. I remember photographing it during the construction. Just as I did with the pedestrian bridge to nowhere. From where I took this photo.

Monday

Cemetery weather today. A lot of fog all day. And quite icy on the path here. My parents rest here, as does my grandparents on both sides of the family.

Running For Office

Back in the day, did you ever watch the Alan Parker movie, Midnight Express? About a guy who smuggles hashish and ends up in a Turkish prison. I have seen it a couple of times. Why do you ask I hear you say? Well we have an upcoming general election here, in three weeks time, so everywhere you look there are election posters. And normally they all look the same. A smiling and styled politician on a very photoshopped image looking at you with the biggest fake smile that you have ever seen. So when I spotted this one yesterday, I stopped for a second look. This is Bengt O Björklund. Poet. Artist, and also running for office for The Left Party. And I can assure you that this photo is not styled in any way. Or photoshopped. Back to the movie Midnight Express, where there is a character called Erich. He is based partly on Bengt who was convicted for hashish smuggling in Turkey back in 1968. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The Medieval Church

I am not someone who will visit a church anytime soon. But this is the cemetery where most of my family rests, so I do visit, with camera, every now and then. This is the Medieval church in Västerhaninge, the oldest part are around 800 years old. It was hit by lighning once and I guess that will happen once every 800 years or so. You have met the pretty priest, Sara, that works here a couple of times. This time I took a walk around the cemetery because of the mist.

Two bridges

Two more mist photos. Both showing pedestrian bridges along Nederstaleden, (a straight), in Västerhaninge. It was one of those days, really. Mist, mist and more mist. The first bridge is close to the commuter station and is mostly used by people going to and from the station, and the shopping center. The second bridge is a few hundred meters to the soutn and it is new. Well, not really, but as I remember photographing it when it was being constructed it counts as new in my head. From where I shot it, it will take you first to the pet cemetery, in a birch forest, and then to the Håga industrial park. But before you get to the industries you will walk by a place where I shoot Spring flowers most every year.

Dimma

Winter Minimalism

Seasonal lighting

Walking through the shopping center in Västerhaninge yesterday, I noticed that they still had the Christmas lights up, so I snapped two different photos of them. The window photo looks into the library.

Elephants at play

Bror Marklund sculpture outside the library in Västerhaninge. The sculptor had a studio in Tungelsta when my dad was a teenager. He would often sculpt naked female figures. Marklund sometimes used the neighbor's daughter, a real beauty, as a model, and for some reason my dad and his friends typically found themselves near a studio window when that happened. Oh, and I was at school with the model's granddaughter, and she would also easily have qualified as a model. On a side note, this sculpture was vandalized a while back when someone broke off the tusks. It has since been repaired, but whoever fixed it used the wrong material, so when you look at the elephants a little closer you immediately spot that.

Park Animals

The sculpture park in Västerhaninge. Fifteen sculptures at Åbyparken in Västerhaninge, made by Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren from the design group Front. Snapped this photo yesterday. The park opened in June of 2018, and I remember being late to the official opening. When I got there on that day nearly four years ago everything looked brand new, even the grass, but now, on this Winter day the wildlife, (almost), looked like they belonged there. Picnic Cancelled

I just came home from a chilly bike ride. The temperature read -7C. Add the wind chill factor according to SMHI and it felt like -12C. It snowed for a bit last night so it looks like Winter again. This is a picnic table in the park next to the library in Västerhaninge.

The bike shop

Åbyplan in Västerhaninge. A shopping center with ten or so stores. Harry's bike shop has been there since the 1960s. Harry still runs it with his wife, son, and one employee. I have bought a couple of bikes there over the years.

No Shopping Frenzy

No shopping frenzy at the Västerhaninge shopping center yesterday afternoon. The pub to the right was very popular pre-Covid19, especially the outdoor area during the Summer months, no idea if they will there when this is all over.

'Tis the season

Loviseberg along Nynäsvägen in Västerhaninge after dark. Built a little over a century ago. At least two people called Lovisa have lived here. They were not related.
